Ghostbusters (2016) Trailer #1 (Feig, Wiig, McCarthy, McKinnon, Jones)

I agree with the rest but not this. It's like a 30 second scene with a "better late than never" punchline set to a rocking 80s rhythm track. But whatever, will trade you the Titanic for this chump:

LOL. Nice. Well, at least it was sort of ominous with the dead walking out, the huge hole, and the ship's horn.

That cab driver tho! I don't recall them using a lot of practical effects in the movie, but you have to pay homage to the cabbie.

It's not a matter of being informed. It's about the tone of a trailer being SO FAR OFF the tone of the original film and you stating plot points of the original which are inherently false. I'm not sure how you reach the conclusions you do, but im not arguing any further on it.

Given that I've already clarified that I wasn't speaking of them as the Ghostbusters corporation, it's pretty darn apparent that your argument collapses into itself if you can't try to suggest that people aren't "true Ghostbusters fans." So yes, please stop arguing any further, because you've done very poorly at it thus far.

I mean seriously, even if I was claiming that they were the Ghostbusters corporation, what does that change exactly? Was any other part of my description of the scene incorrect? They definitely had a scene of them planning their strike, the scene went from serious to funny. Your poor attempts at making it about other users instead of the films doesn't change either.

I wouldn't even call it trash, it is just wasn't my kind of comedy. Ghostbusters looks the same to me but like always I will never go crazy with hate over it. I don't get people that get overly angry etc over a film or anything else. You can easily just not watch it or just call it a bad film then move on.

My issue with GB is, and until someone actually does it in the thread I won't claim to be referring to anyone in this thread, is that so many people have basically complained about it in the worst fashion. There were numerous people that I've seen who decided to hate the movie just because it was an all-women cast.

Not really feeling it because the humor reminds me of Will Ferrell movies where they specifically tailor it to get the comedian hyuks instead of working the humor into the content of the movie. The 2 original Ghostbusters movies aren't perfect in that area but I feel like they had a better grasp of making the comedy work with the movie.

I might still see this though.

"Everything was fine with our system until the power grid was shut off by dickless here."
"They caused an explosion!"
"Is this true?"
"Yes it's true."
"This man has no dick."

That Verge article...

"The trailer was not cut very well. It seemed focused on explaining the new story and not showing off the best jokes."

What???

I just want to live in a world where all walks of life are represented equally in film and where we can admit that some trailers look boring AF.

I kind of liked it, though I'll admit that I'm not super familiar with the original films.

Was less cringey to me than a lot of other movie trailers / concepts nowadays.

I'm worried that a poor reception to this, might kill any interest in the Russo version. Supposedly the script for that one was a bit more off-the-wall and I would love to see a slightly heavier action version of Ghostbusters.

I wouldn't worry too much. There seem to be a number of people who will see it purely because some of the backlash is sooooo strong.

Essentially people are getting real angry and that's pushing others (many of whom are women) in the opposite direction.

It's depressing that this is a thing. I'm sure it is for some people, but man. If I don't like the movie it won't be because of any of these ridiculous reasons and if someone tries to tell me otherwise so help them god.

It's not just some. Sony just went into the trailers' YouTube comments with a goddamn axe because it was so bad. That may not be your reasoning, but trust me, it exists and it's sizable.

Link, ifyou're going to keep arguing with people here, quit editing your posts after people have quoted you. You've already done it a couple times.

You don't think that was woven into the fabric of the scene?

They're there in this meeting with the mayor, one side presents their argument, the other presents theirs. So you know there's going to be some back and forth and deliberation. Makes sense the mayor would ask "is this true." There's also the expectation that this meeting is going to be taken seriously because it's in front of the most powerful men in the city and dealing with some heavy consequence stuff, so when someone is flippant it's a great bit of unexpected shock. Finally it's a payoff after seeing and dealing with this asshole and knowing how much at each others' throats they are.

It's not a gag out of nowhere, it's perfect in that moment.

Well, I like the look of the film at least

That's the one positive thing I came away with on this trailer, the sets, costumes, effects all look great. The characters and the jokes and dialogue.. I don't know. I want to like it. I want ghostbusters to be back. I need to see more, but that was an awful trailer.

Looked like a lot of fun. I'm past comparing new movies in franchises that I adored as a kid to them. Seems pointless. There was a special kind of magic and newness that movies like Ghostbusters, Rocky, Jurassic Park, and Star Wars had when you were younger that is pretty much impossible to duplicate 30+ years later, when you're an adult that has seen countless more movies, and can spot a trope or plot point a mile away.

Jurassic World, The Force Awakens, Creed, and Ghostbusters would never be able to compare to films that broke the mold in nearly every way when they released. Films that shook the genre, and influenced cinema for decades to come.

At this point in time, the best we can hope for from franchise films is that they're fun and keep the spirit of the franchise in tact. There are filmmakers out there making brand new movies, no saddled by cultural iconic status, and those films will be the ones that make us gawk at our screens and tickle that 8 year old boy or girl inside of us.

Ghostbusters 2016 ain't gonna do that. Sorry. But it will probably be fun and funny, and the cast they have assembled is perfect for a movie like this. All of them are hilarious, and have great comedic timing. They also look to have chemistry with one another. Something the original Ghostbusters also had.

Is this movie going to somehow capture lightning in a bottle? Something even the second Ghostbusters film couldn't do (although I personally love GB2 to death)? Hell no.

This trailer sent the movie from my "uh, I don't know about this" pile, to my "yeah, I'll see this for sure" pile. It looks fun and silly, and makes me think of the Real Ghostbusters cartoon when it comes to the ghost designs and colors. I'm really digging the look and tone of the movie so far. I do think the trailer showed us too much, though.

I don't think anyone wants to do such a thing, because judging by how you seem to feel, you would probably retort with "no, that isn't hilarious"

It's not that, it's just the language they use is pretty hyperbolic, which I guess is in line with the tone of the article overall. I don't know that I'd use "incredibly hilarious" to describe any trail-

All-in-all I'm just hoping that this movie finally gives us a good Ghostbusters film

oh

Absolutely love it. I already see myself loving the characters, I love the way the ghosts look, and I love the overall tone of the trailer.

This makes one big Ghostbusters fanboy happy.

No. No. I think it was *perfectly* woven into the scene. It was the first to pop into my head when it was mentioned.

Dickless bit is perhaps one of the best in the film, and among the most memorable movie "jokes", at least for me.

The only thing that gets me more than that bit in the movie is a small moment that I always laugh at: they're in the library in the intro after things are getting a little weird, and Akroyd says something like "Listen! Do you smell something?" The incongruity of it makes me laugh every time.

I think you make good points, and where this trailer failed was in tying these 4 into the same world as the original team. If they didn't try to pass this off as a reboot, it'd a lot easier to swallow. The others you mentioned did a great job of linking two generations together without trying to negate the original film.

That said, I may enjoy it despite the trailer and I really hope I do.

One sec guys I think someone set off my Creed-ometer

Ah there we go.

Creed might be better than all the Rocky movies. If you told me I would say that 6 months ago, I would've laughed for hours.

Getting away from the hyperbole, did anyone else notice how they soft confirmed Hemsworth gets possessed?

Yeah, they snuck that in pretty quickly. You basically see nothing of Hemsworth except that Duke Boot to the door

More or less right where I'm at.

And, honestly, I'm just really psyched that there's going to be a new Ghostbusters movie in theaters again. This was my very first fandom when I was a little kid. Loved the cartoon show to the ends of the earth, loved the movies too when I was old enough to watch them.

Some people can't accept change to their favourite things, so just vent like mad on the net. Yeah some of the hate is just down to it being woman in lead roles which I don't get. Why is women as leads a bad thing? But then I wasn't brought up in a sexist house. So have no clue what makes people think that way.

Yep and Force awakens might be better than all the star wars movies bar new hope and empire. You can resurrect old franchises. But not if you don't understand why they were good in the first place

How about instead of shoehorning these actors into an established franchise, you write a brand new movie for the 4 of them that people will look back on in 30 years and say shit like "Remember X? That was awesome and original"

Feel almost the complete opposite on the film then you.

I went from "yeah I'll see this for sure" based on the directors track record to "uh, I don't know about this."

I am probably most disappointed in the blatant token black caricature they threw in there. Her entire intro in the trailer gave me like 3-5 cringes in succession. Really, really, hope the movie itself does a better job for that character then this trailer did.

After that the entire tone and feel seemed off. I am not sure what I expected but I think either a really smart reboot/remake like TFA or for Paul Feig to go in a completely unique and interesting direction with the female cast.

This is the same argument we get for black people and franchises.

Sporky gets it. I mean, it's a crass humor but it works well for the scene.
