They're trying to position her as the "hot geek" in the marketing.

Also of note is the other shot:

There is already police tape around so it makes me think Hemworth's character is going toward some area that is the source and so might be possessed by a ghost that is causing all this chaos. I don't know where the new Ghostbusters are located, but this doesn't look like their headquarters.

Guessing the basement of the fire house.

The trailer looks to imply that the Chinese shop is the main base, but in the shot where McKinnon's character is working on the trap, the camera looks out onto what looks like the inside of the main floor of the fire house.

I honestly didn't jive with this reading.

Leslie Jones plays Leslie Jones. And compared to Winston - "Ah, if there's a steady paycheck in it, I'll believe anything you say." - at least she is proactive about joining the crew.

Have to admit, I had the same reaction as Jombie with her character.

The trailer portrays her as the angry black woman stereotype. I'm hoping the movie has more depth to her character and doesn't just make that a one-note joke all the way through.

Winston was the everyman. His line about the paycheck is probably what most people would think when told they were being hired to fight ghosts.

Yea I agree.

Maybe I'm an old man yelling at clouds, but I thought the old practical ghost effects looked much better.

I'm with you man. The original, while mostly a comedy, still provided a few good scares. It was a good mix. The new one, judging by what is seen in the trailer, doesn't appear to take the scare aspect seriously. What a shame.

I like the original and still like how the new ghosts look. I'm sure it'll be fine-tuned before its release in July.

Yeah I really do believe Jonesis just being herself.

Her and McKinnon are going to be my fav parts of this movie I can tell.

How much of a True Ghostbusters Fan can you be if you call it Tomes Square?

:p I read the message before the name... says a lot about this thread that I took it seriously until I saw your username lol.

Verge has an interview with Feig and one of the writers, some interesting tidbits about the movie (Slimer is a puppet enhanced with CG for example)

The new slime splitting ghost is an actor with CG enhancements. Most of the ghosts in the movie are actors or puppets with CG work on top of them.

Is this the reason none of the ghosts are transparent/partially see-through? Cause they were all there on set as live actors? Not digging that super-saturated, crushed After Effects Shine plugin look the Ghosts have. Definitely feels composited on top rather than the ghosts being copied into the scene.

Winston was sad man. So sad. Hudson even knows he's sad.

I look back on Ghostbusters in a very fun way, but it’s got so many mixed feelings and emotions attached to it. When I originally got the script, the character of Winston was amazing and I thought it would be career-changing. The character came in right at the very beginning of the movie and had an elaborate background: he was an Air Force major something, a demolitions guy. It was great.

The night before filming begins, however, I get this new script and it was shocking.

The character was gone. Instead of coming in at the very beginning of the movie, like page 8, the character came in on page 68 after the Ghostbusters were established. His elaborate background was all gone, replaced by me walking in and saying, “If there’s a steady paycheck in it, I’ll believe anything you say.” So that was pretty devastating.

I’m panicked. I don’t sleep that night. It was like my worst nightmare is happening. The next morning, I rush to the set and plead my case. And Ivan basically says, “The studio felt that they had Bill Murray, so they wanted to give him more stuff to do.” I go, “Okay, I understand that, but can I even be there when they’re established?” And of course, he said no, there’s nothing to do about it. It was kind of awkward, and it became sort of the elephant in the room.

People say, “Well, he’s sort of the Everyman, he’s kind of the guy who helps the audience understand.” I love the character and he’s got some great lines, but I felt the guy was just kind of there.

Screw you guys, I liked it. What did you expect? It's freaking Ghostbusters? Have you seen any of the films?

What did I expect? A good mix of creepy and funny, not the buffoon of a clown car with a "teh ghostbusters!" bumper sticker that I watched.

The original GHOSTBUSTERS is a comedy and was marketed as a comedy. Assuming there aren't any scares in this new film because it's a comedy being marketed as a comedy is unfair.

It's a 2:38 trailer of what will be at least a 90:00 movie.

You guys do know that GHOSTBUSTERS 1 and 2 were both comedies with cheesy jokes, right?

Right.

And most of the jokes in the original were fantastic and mostly dry sarcasm. This looks like the kind of goofy humor you'd find in a Wayans production. If you can't see the difference, I don't know what to tell you.

Pretty poor IMHO.

Cast don't feel like they gel vs original cast and the dialogue and humour seems to be way, way below standard f the firsts witty, sharp lines.

TBH expensive sets/effects aside this looks like a DTV cash in third release after weaker second film when main cast wouldn't return.

Hope it's just how the trailer is cut as cast I thought was promising but that was pretty sub standard.

I'm crying. First the fucking lackluster Nintendo Direct and this abomination back to back. It's like everything I loved is getting destroyed.

Maybe there will be scares, I really hope there will. But if they are all wrapped around that terrible bluish-hued CGI crap then it may be hard to take seriously. Sorry, it just looks fake as hell to me.

That was one of the unique traits about the original. The ghosts weren't something to fuck around with.

At least Slimer looks decent. I'll hold out hope on Slimer.

The bluish effect to the ghosts just looks God awful. Going to be a lot of slime jokes in this one.

Yeah I do agree. Seeing that GIF of the old library scene kinda reinforces it.

The new ghosts look a little too cartoony and lack the personality I hoped. None of the ghosts shown were instantly memorable like almost every ghost from the original.

It all just came off like bluish shapes and then yet another clone of the Nazgul/Dementor design.

Slimer was the only one that looked kinda good TBH. Mostly just because he stood out. Though I wouldn't be opposed if they toned down the brightness of that green.

Every time I hear about movies enhancing real objects with CG the finished product just ends looking like straight up CG.
I think the point of having physical actors on set and overlaying them with CGI is to keep a physicality to the visual effect and the other actors in the scene interacting with the said effect.

The ghosts are going to be fine-tuned between now and the film's July release.

I watched the original GHOSTBUSTERS recently in a theater and there are dated effects. I adore the original, but it's not perfect.

I'm pretty sure if GB1 were done today, they'd be all up in CGI.

I'm crying. First the fucking lackluster Nintendo Direct and this abomination back to back. It's like everything I loved is getting destroyed.

Jesus, calm down. Just because you personally didn't like something new doesn't mean it retroactively destroys something old.

The trending topics on Twitter... Man.

Jones's role isn't going over well.

Lousy.

McCarthy does fat humor. Jones does loud humor. I think what I enjoy about both of them is the ability to take a step back and play straight. It makes it humorous on its own.

I hear people a lot who dislike McCarthy for pandering. She enjoys it. It's a large part of what makes her successful. Jones is no different, only wildly unknown.

Right.

Not every joke in GHOSTBUSTERS is perfect, even though it has many great jokes. It has goofy moments, too.

Wow. It's amazing that you've already seen the entire movie even though it's not out yet. Have you actually seen a Wayans movie? I have and I can see the difference between the style of humor in the trailer (which is 2:38) and the style of a Wayans comedy.

Not to me. It looks like the exact same kind of thing, all of it, especially the vomiting ghost and the shot of it as camera footage. It's precisely what all these other horror spoofs do. They take stuff that was actually scary in other movies like The Exorcist and turn it into a joke. This is not at all what the original Ghostbusters did. It was nothing like this.

And please don't do the whole "well since you've obviously seen it" junk, of course I haven't. I'm criticizing what I am seeing in the trailer though, and it looks like the same stuff you'd find in Scary Movie or that Paranormal Activity spoof that the Wayans did. And you have characters screaming and smacking each other in the most outrageous fashion. If you can find one scene in the original that does anything like this, let me know.

Ghostbusters II is a little more like it in a select handful of moments, but I don't like those either.

The trailer is shit. I'm still excited for the film though, but to avoid suggesting it dampers things seems odd to me.

I really wanted to like this.

But it looks like it will be everything I was afraid of: Forced humor and bad effects. It feels more like a sequel to that crapfest R.I.P.D. than a Ghostbusters film.
