So that those fans can then buy their games because they can't justify the purchase of a single-publisher console? Makes a lot of sense to me.
I agree, my eyes were glazed over non stop, I was hoping for more Pokemon news but I guess that's coming later.

Well, post-Nintendo Direct GAF is in fine form lol. It was actually OK for once, too.
Nintendo's on a roll with Splatoon, Fire Emblem, etc... so nothing in this Direct upsets me. It's clear we'll get new big games when the NX comes out.
Any game announced for Wii U at this point is pointless, so why care? Meanwhile, I've got a new Pokémon and Kirby coming to my new 3DS this year-- with amiibo support. I'm really satisfied with my purchase, as I will be with the holiday NX/Zelda bundle.

Super Mario Maker's patch is by far the biggest news of the show to me. Keys (or some kind of system for flagging defeated bosses) have been my biggest request since day one, and open up a whole new level of flexibility for Metroidvanias or exploration stages in particular.
Paper Mario looks much like Sticker Star did at its unveiling, with a conspicuous absence of partners in the battle system, which won't make people happy if they were clamouring for another PM64/TTYD. But Sticker Star's primary issues were with its core mechanics (notably the "hard counter" design encouraged by the sticker battle system), and I don't mind a game that is similarly structured so long as it takes advantage of being on a home system, rather than a portable, by delivering a contiguous world rather than one that is broken down into stages for short sessions. Given what they showed of the GamePad integration, I am concerned about the potential lack of off-TV play.
(The American spelling of 'color' bugs me, but America runs the show in NA; what can you do.)
I expected Project Guard to be part of Star Fox from day one. If I'm clear on this, Star Fox Guard is bundled in every physical copy of SF Zero as part of the standard SKU (as was the case with Bayonetta 1+2physically together, digitally separate), but to be honest, from the NA presentation I wasn't quite clear on this.
I don't think the presentation changed anybody's mind on Star Fox Zero or Federation Force, but I say that as someone who was already in the bag for Star Fox and not interested in MP:FF (not because it's a spin-off with no resemblance to a Metroid game, but because I just don't care to use my 3DS for online multiplayer, especially when the health of the multiplayer community for this game is unlikely to be great). I'm also not clear on whether MP:FF is exclusive to the n3DS or just enhanced with the second stick; I neither have an n3DS nor plan to get one, so that would rule me out.
Good call on the localization for #FE: given its target audience, it isn't remotely worth it to do an English dub, which in any case would have been inordinately challenging for a game that revolves around J-pop. It's coming a lot earlier than I expected, too. Maximize consumer availability of their popular brands, but essentially a death sentence to pretty much everything else. If you think current Nintendo relies too much on Mario and Zelda, then a third party Nintendo would have little else since they no longer have a reason to diversify
Well considering that Nintendo makes most of their money on hardware it makes no sense, not to mention they would have to completely change how they make games.
My point is that Microsoft revealed the Xbox One in May. Nintendo is likely to follow suit. Maybe even in April.

It's clear to me now more than ever that Nintendo really has abandoned the Wii U. NX should have a historic launch line-up as I'd assume many of those projects moved over.
As for what was shown, Paper Mario looks all right. The 3DS stuff is just white noise to me anymore. I'm also curious if they relegated gamepad controls in Star Fox Zero to the new co-op mode; looks like they took it out of the single player mode (aside from the locking on segments).

I liked Xenoblade X, I liked Smash, I liked Yoshi. I don't consider them "some of the best games in a decade," but I'd call all three of them great games. Last year was pretty bad for the 3DS for me, but 2016 is looking a lot better. The first 3DS game of the year I played was FE and I love it a lot.
Opinions differ, I suppose, but I don't think the last two years have been as bad for me as they seemingly have been for everyone else.

Not the worst Direct ever, but the onslaught of "direct to video"-feeling franchise titles seems to be continuing. That new Kirby might be alright, but it was clearly made on the cheap, and it feels it.
Paper Mario was a shot to the heart though, that was truly disappointing. Can't believe that of all mechanics they take from Paper Jam, it's the Toad-saving mechanic.

I wasn't disappointed with the direct, but, I think the issue I had was that the two new games announced feel like filler. So uninspired and safe, which is a problem I've had with a lot of Nintendo's content as of late.
PM Wii U just looks like a Sticker Star rehash. Kirby looks very by the books. Meh.
Hopefully they have much more interesting software in preparation for NX. That said, SNES VC, FE Fates release date, MH Generations announcement etc were enough to satisfy me.

This thread is just one giant mood whiplash from post to post. Entertaining, to say the least.
E3 is still ahead of us, so I guess if you're dissatisfied, look forward to that? At least we'll get Zelda news then.

This was a decent direct but it feels strange that Smash Brothers wasn't part of it......going to take a while I guess to get used to that game ending with the Bayonetta/Corrin content XD.
My personal highlight was Kirby as that looked like a really great game. New copy ability, decent amiibo usage and 'gimmick' working with the copy abilities (Mech); does enough to be different from Triple Deluxe (a fantastic platformer) but not too much to go away from how great that core gameplay is. Hands down my most anticipated Nintendo game this year so far.
.....And this goes right to Paper Mario Wii U. Its the exact opposite from Kirby; it has gameplay so different from the great (Original/TTYD) and good (SPM) games in the series and just adds more unneeded fluff. Hopeful that I'm wrong, as great visuals + strong soundtrack are expected from this but I have no hype for this what-so-ever. Might do well but for many, its the Federation Force of the Wii U, if that makes any sense.
Federation Force having a single player mode (based on release footage) makes me happy, as I was interested in the game despite heated backlash. Hopeful that they do a bit more to make it like Metroid but Next Level does great work, so looking forward to it.
Nice moves on Nintendo supporting Mario Maker, Splatoon and Hyrule Warriors Legends with DLC and Updates; shows they care about extended shelf life of popular and strong games they have.

They could still sell amiibos, their extremely limited collector editions, and have their mynintendo service. They could also take their time with software since they dont need to support a userbase by themselves, and also dont need to worry about making money on hardware

I think Metroid fans would be a lot more accepting of Federation Force if the main series was healthy. But we're coming up on 9 years since Prime 3.
Well amibo wouldn't work.also they wouldnt be a to take there time since the only source of income is games. We seen what happen when a hardware maker becomes a software maker, it not pretty.

Amiibo wouldn't really work unless they made an additional peripheral for compatibility. And a lot of those things aren't super relevant, or wouldn't exist without their own platform (Mynintendo). And they still would no longer need to diversify at all. Literally every company that goes third party sees a drastic drop in the number of ip they release for pretty much immediately. Why would Nintendo be different?

The Star Fox Guard game is weirdly the game I'm most likely to buy from Nintendo..maybe Starfox itself if it gets some decent reviews (I know they'll be mixed..but if the controls click with some and not others..that'll be fine).
Paper Mario..I'd have bought in a shot if it was an RPG. I'm not sure now...probably not.
