Please, read the post before you quote it. I never talked about the original cast. I'm talking about the original CHARACTERS.

Well, you implied you'd prefer the original cast below, but you did say different actors would be fine.

But i still believe most people would rather see at least a couple of the original canon characters, being played by new actors if the original cast can't do it.

EDIT:

Yes, IMO some of the canon characters matter in the franchise and i'd like them to be in. New actors or not. That's a personal preference though. And yeah, i would probably still bitch about it since the original cast is very tough to top. But i would still prefer it instead of what we got.

Ah, OK

Like what? So far people complained about the childish, slapstick humor and the cartoony, overly colorful look that makes it look like Pixels or Scooby Doo. Non of these criticisms can be applied to the original film or it's trailer.

The original movie has cartoonish visuals (and a few dated special effects), as well as slapstick and crass humor, although it balances it well.

Have you seen PIXELS? I have and can say the humor in the new GHOSTBUSTERS trailer is smarter than anything PIXELS.

We'll just have to agree to disagree then.

These characters are so completely tied to the actors who portrayed them for me that I could never accept anyone other than Bill Murray as Peter Venkman.
Same can be said for the ghostbusters though. The canon characters are so completely tied being the actual ghostbusters that i could never accept anyone else being one without at least a couple of the original canon characters, regardless genre.

But i agree, this remake would be hated mostly, regardless of the cast, genre, etc. But this is true for all remakes or anything that caters to nostalgia and makes radical changes.

Yeah. I just think the amount of hate this one has got seems crazy. I don't remember people spewing so much disgust at things like Total Recall or Robocop.

Unnecessary reboots/remakes happen all the time. I don't get what it is about THIS movie that is making people lose their goddamn minds

Well, pretty sure that everyone would prefer the original cast. But since it's impossible at least go with the next best thing. Which one is that is a personal preference. Mine being some canon characters portrayed by new actors along with a couple of the ones we already got. Mixed genres and some canon characters. You get the best of both possible solutions.

Kate McKinnon's character steals the show despite having only 1 line in the trailer.

She will rule.

Agreed. I'm in love with her already

Edit: I think it's clear you aren't saying you agree.

Who takes their time to tweet yell atDan Aykroyd about women in Ghostbusters.

Fucking losers

If GAF is like this, I can't imagine what Twitter's like

I'm pretty sure he's pointing out the actually objective sexism surrounding this movie on all corners of the Internet, not agreeing with the commenter's tweet.

Right.

I don't agree with the interminable fan mansplaining the GHOSTBUSTERS reboot to Dan Aykroyd.

The virulent fan reaction to the casting is disgusting.

I guarantee you they are gonna save her best shit for the movie.

Because she sells herself. Just those little moments confirmed my belief from day one that she'll be the best of this.

I just dunno, hard for me to get a good vibe from this. I'm sure it will do well and be liked by some people which is fine. Maybe there's more good stuff not in this trailer.

Venkman getting slimed Ghostbusters 1984 acts as catharsis after what is a genuinely a kinda tense scene, and most of the humor comes from his verbal reaction to the experience ("I feel so funky!").

In Ghostbusters 2016 the joke is just a woman getting goop vomitted on her.
No. On the morherfucking TRAILER of Ghostbusters 2016 the joke of that scene that was shown was a woman getting goop vomitted on her.

Jesus, you're not even giving the goddamn movie a chance!

Looks bad, but I'm not blaming the cast. I've wanted a new ghostbusters in forever, but this trailer has made me realise the film was a product of its time and can't really be replicated today.

Edit: I don't agree with the interminable fan mansplaining the GHOSTBUSTERS reboot to Dan Aykroyd.

Dan is pretty liberal with that Ghostbusters 3 title. Back when the 2009 game was released he was calling that the true sequel to Ghostbusters II. Now, he's calling this a sequel, even though it is clearly a hard reboot.

But at this point in his life, Dan Aykroyd is living in his own little world and is happy to endorse anything with the Ghostbusters logo on it. Though, I do still have to give him some credit for staying positive about his own creation. I'm sure he will just ignore the disgruntled fan responses.

I'm shocked that this is receiving such negative responses considering the history for recent 80's reboots including :
The A team
Karate Kid
Transformers
Robocop
Conan
Total Recall
Point break
TMNT
Red Dawn

Universal gaf praise, I tell ya.

As he should. Trailer looks funny and I love the look of the ghosts. GAF keeps criticizing it for the CG look but man it fits the color scheme of the movie so well.

It could very well be decent. It's very likely going to be bad though. That is just the nature of these reboots. I do hope to be surprised and will give it a chance, but I'm realistic.

That line... About the slime getting in every crack, awful.

The kicker is, as mentioned a myriad of times in this thread, the film is trying to be progressive with a female cast. But they just couldn't resist, could they?

Did we watch the same trailer? I thought these were the same characters as the original but with a new cast (but with a different gender)? Or is their gender/name really that essential to their character?

It's such a neon nightmare I love it. Vibrant as fuck especially compared to average movie colour pallets these days

The original Ghostbusters that i know are:

Peter Venkman
Ray Stanz
Egon Spenkler
Winston Zedmore

I didn't see anyone in this trailer. So yeah, maybe you watched a different one.

The Karate Kid was goddamn amazing and better than the original.

I think it's odd to paint that line as non-progressive. It's not as if it's sexy in the slightest. It reads like a female version of a getting kicked in the balls joke. If female body parts are played for groans that actually is progressive.

Now, it is awful, but that's a different point.

They should have gone for a serious tone if they can't deliver on the humour.

Also why try make the car a joke when it references this is set 30 years after the original ghostbusters which used the same looking car?

Surely they know this already.

That's an 80s Caddy the original was a 50s Ambulance

'NO ONES BETTER AT QUANTUM PHYSICS THAN YOU' (stands behind table of equations)

It looks dumb. Ghostbusters was unique to me as it really did get the authetic, lived in world feel so perfect. It felt like real characters who wouldnt have to spell out their motivations so explicitly. You knew Egon was the science guy by his intro in the Library. No words needed. You knew Winston was the outsider because of his laconic 'as long as theres a paycheck...' line. Admittedly Feig tonally may not care about this, but it was a big part of the appeal. The colour scheme bizarelly reminded me of Amazing Spider Man 2 but that's just me.

I'll go see it with my daughter and give it a whirl but my expectations are in the toilet for this, which is a shame as I liked Spy a fair old bit.

Should have been called the Kung Fu Kid though...

Does TMNT really count as a reboot though? It is not really a reboot of the original films, it's just a new series of movies based on the original material. The original TMNT '90 movie was based on the B&W Mirage comic book, while Bay Turtles is mostly patterned after the '87 cartoon series (at least for the sequel).

I don't know, I think some of the CG looks a little rough. But I will reserve judgement on it because it's common for movie trailers to show unfinished special effect shots and this movie still has months of production time left before release.

Well the original 1950's Miller-Meteor Cadillac was designed to function as both a hearse and an ambulance. In some cases they were even used for mental institutes. So nobody is really wrong here. In the '80's cartoon series they called the car a hearse. The 1980's Cadillac in this movie was designed only to be a hearse as ambulances were regulated to vans.

This is what the car looked like before the makeover:
ecto-1_primer.jpg

It is black and has curtains like a hearse, but also has Ambulance lights and sirens.

Beginning states it is set 30 years after the original events, so the history still exists.

The movie exists.

It's just a nod to the original movies.

Sony was dumb and put that in but it's specifically just them saying 30 years ago we made a Ghostbusters movie... now we're making a new one.

I agree. Seems like lowest common denominator material so far. No subtlety at all.

It's very possible that's just trailer VO work.
