Ghostbusters (2016) Trailer #1 (Feig, Wiig, McCarthy, McKinnon, Jones)

It got a decent about of hate but I think a lot of people just gave up after a while because 1) the movie didn't look that hot and 2) the trailers made it look like they very clearly missed the point of RoboCop (which they did)

I think there's also an element of Ghostbusters is one of the most beloved comedies of its time and Robocop is not held in quite the same regard.

The original Robocop is a good movie, but I don't think there's nearly as many diehard fans. People have been wanting a new Ghostbusters for years, not too many people, comparatively, were asking for a new Robocop.

It's like Banjo and Kazooie. Nuts and Bolts was a pretty good game, but it's not what B&K fans wanted. That said, I'm not really sure it's possible to deliver what fans really want, which is probably just Ghostbusters 3 with the original cast.

I suspect the Russo Bros film will be panned too once details come out, because it's more action-oriented or Channing Tatum isn't funny enough or something.

I think the remake looks more like Bridesmaids with ghosts than Ghostbusters with women. I like Bridesmaids, it's funny. This will probably be funny too, but I would prefer something closer to the original tone, which is sort of a type of movie that Hollywood doesn't really make anymore.

The humor in the original is very subtle. I liked it as a kid, but I actually don't think I thought it was funny, most of the jokes went over my head. Nothing about this trailer is subtle.

But you know, the 1980s New York stereotypes don't make as much sense anymore, the city is not perceived to be as grimy, and so on. a lot of what makes Ghostbusters great is maybe just not doable in a modern setting.

I'm pretty sure Bill Murray has been positive about the film, and he's never seemed like the kind of person to bullshit.

He's through the roof with ecstacy

I thought about it for a very long time. Like, many, many months. No, that’s not right. I was seriously thinking about this for years, really … It kept eating at me, and I really respect those girls. And then I started to feel like if I didn’t do this movie, maybe somebody would write a bad review or something, thinking there was some sort of disapproval [on my part].

Somebody contain him.

Yeah that left me pretty unimpressed. But it could just be a bad trailer and all the funny jokes are in the full feature. Also thought they showed way too much of the plot. All I needed to know was Ghostbusters are back and still awesome. But now we know the ghosts can possess people and one posses Chris Hemsworth and one posses one of the Ghostbusters and they're gonna fight each other, but it'll be hard cause they don't want to hurt each other.

And you know 3 of them are nerdy scientists and the fourth is an average citizen so a lot of the laughs are gonna come from her reacting to crazy shit that the others think is normal cause they're so eccentric and awkward, which I'm sure is expected to solicit some laughs

I dunno. Just felt like a whole bunch of stuff I've already seen a million times. But again, could just be a bad trailer. It'll need a lot better jokes if that's the plot they're going with.

Well, that was bad. I'm gonna pass on this one.

- Pure slapstick comedy (none of the jokes were funny)
- Bad CGI (what's with all the way too bright colors on the ghosts?)
- Weird delivery of lines (were these the outtakes?)

Missing the adult humor and some actual scary ghosts.
Only good thing was the music.

This trailer is way better:

Was looking forward to this. Trailer killed my interest. Fuck you Feige for that "you're all smart but I know New York" bullshit.

Couldn't even give her the "smart but not too smart" standby of mechanic/technician? She's already providing the car.

Recut trailer is way better. Doesn't give away the new stuff and feels more like ghostbusters. The real trailer reminds me of the LEGO Ghostbusters trailer, where I assume they weren't allowed to use the real song so they had to make up something that sounded similar.

Apparently when you remove all dialog from the movie and label it as an extreme ghostbusters movie it kind of works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bXxJKD3J6oc

It's still bad but if they did this as an extreme ghostbusters movie and more of a spin off rather than a parody/sequel it would be more acceptable.

However that still wouldn't stop it being bad, the dialog and way it is shot alone makes sure of that.

This is weird. I didn't like the trailer as such but this re-edit fixes many of the problems I had with it.

I usually don't go in for fan-edits either.

OK, this one is equally as good if not better than the extreme one.

Jesus Sony, get good.

Basically any trailer re-edit that removes or shortens dialogue is going to make the movie seem better, because the jokes are fucking horrible. Everything visually looks great, the writing is the issue. Of course the movie looks better when you cut out the cringe. Better pacing does help, but only so much.

Well, the 2014 RoboCop wasn't bad. It just wasn't memorable at all.

Yeah I agree. As its own thing it was sort of neat. I got it on sale on bluray. It wasn't bad, it just didn't excel either. And when you have an excellent original to compare it to, that just isn't good enough. But I still sort of like it for what it is. I'll watch it occasionally.

But it's my favorite RoboCop movie!

Damn, I'd actually go and see that movie.

The removal of dialogue helps it A LOT.

EDIT: And the other re-edit is good too, just leaving in a couple of the least terrible lines. Sony saved me £9 by releasing such an honest trailer.

Just watched it and was literally almost crying.
I mean, there' some redeeming things (some of the ghosts looked pretty cool), but everything that's actually related to the story, the characters and everything else looked HORRENDOUS!

I'm slowly thinking that Sony should not be allowed to produce movies based on existing licences.
They did a horrible job with Spiderman (twice!) and now they are destroying a franchise I hold very close to my nostalgia-filled heart.

I am totally nerd-raging here.

I'm actually not in love with the trailer edits. First part of it is good, but the two joke pops with Jones' and McKinnon's characters back to back ruins the flow. Other than that it's solid.

Between Spy and Bridesmaids, I'm okay with putting a good amount of trust in Feig and the cast.

yes, they are. If they had spent the same amount of time on the movie like they did deleting YT Comments, the reboot would be much better.

Lol. What garbage.

The slow, dramatic piano-rendition of the GB theme at the beginning makes me laugh every time. Such a train wreck.

I have a problem with it, and the problem is that the tone is soo vastly different from the originals, and not in a good way.

The originals were subtle and mature (I mean as much as any film about ghost fighting can be!). This new film, it's a kids flick.

It's all guns blazing, slapstick and awkward comedy. It's too self aware and the characters seem to typecast with no real personality other than a funnel for the comedy.

I can't even think of examples properly from the originals, but them mentioning how they made ray remortgage to get them going, or the talk they have in the car about religion whilst having a smoke. Not every scene was cartoonish.

Well, that was bad. I'm gonna pass on this one.

I'm so glad you two were able to discern these things about the entire movie from a 2-minute trailer.

The movie could turn out to be terrible, but there is a serious lack of common sense and critical thinking going on in this thread. It's like some of you see "Ahhh my beloved franchise" and everything goes white and your ability for rational thought just disappears.

They aren't going to put serious, low-energy talks about God and religion in the trailer for their summer action horror comedy. They aren't going to show the actual scary shit in the first trailer, which is standard for any scary movie ever. They need to cast a wide net because they have had massive backlash from the word go, so that means putting easy, lowest common denominator stuff in the trailer to attract as many people as they can.

Look at what happened when the announcement teaser came out with just the piano song and shots of the army. "Rumors" suddenly started spreading that Sony didn't know how to market the movie because "it wasn't a comedy" and they were going to sell it as straight horror. Well they must have reshot the entire fuckin thing over the past two weeks because, humor being subjective aside, this is very fucking clearly a comedy movie. Look how they have to beat people over the head with that fact to get it across after the reaction to the teaser.

And again, let's not all suddenly forget that the original movies had plenty of that shit too. Within moments of introducing Ray, Peter is slapping him on the head for interrupting his "research" which, by the way, was shocking some shmuck so much that his gum flew out of his mouth. Yeah that's not slapstick or anything. No no Slimer's entire soundboard wasn't really guttural breathy belches and low rumbling farts. No Venkman doesn't make a snot joke about ectoplasm. No there's isn't a cunnilingus joke implied when Egon comes up from under Janine's desk. No there's not a scene where Ray gets his fuckin dick sucked by a ghost. That's just lowbrow stuff that they put in this new movie, my Ghostbusters was never this crude.

Garfield 1 & 2 say hi!

I could only imagine that Bill Murray has a pretty good rapport with most of the people on this project. He did co-star with Melissa McCarthy in the movie St. Vincent. He also once said that he would only return for a third Ghostbusters movie if the script/ players were good or if they killed his character off.

I think the bolded is exceptionally relevant, he hated Ghostbusters since the studio forced the changes/script of GB2, of the amazing Ghostbusters Video Game his lines were almost phoned in at times, he did that for the fans, Akroyd and the pay cheque

Don't get me wrong Murray is an awesome man, a brilliant actor but he is no saint, no bastion of truthfulness or moral high ground i've never known him be ever anything but himself and do things that he thought benefited him in some way, either it be a good role, a pay cheque or in this case laying a past role to rest and so he never ever ever has to put up with another 15 years of Akroyd and fans asking him to do a ghostbusters 3

Strangely a simple change to make it an actual sequel would probably shut down 99% of angry fans who dislike this parody esq reboot (hyperboley based on a 2min trailer but gets the point across)

Yo, excelsiorlef, did you actually have something to say to me or were you just trying to stir up shit?

What? Sorry I missed your previous post. I just thought it was odd that a single mediocre but hardly horrific trailer could make someone go from " Totally on board" to "fuck this shit" that's all
