No Venkman doesn't make a snot joke about ectoplasm. No there's isn't a cunnilingus joke implied when Egon comes up from under Janine's desk. No there's not a scene where Ray gets his fuckin dick sucked by a ghost. That's just lowbrow stuff that they put in this new movie, my Ghostbusters was never this crude.
You forgot that Spengler fucked with the slime from the second one.
The old movies are full of these.

Here is some speculation about the story:

Since there are some particle physics and some time travel in the trailer, maybe the original Ghostbusters and the new Ghostbusters are in separate time lines and they cross each other in the movie. That would be a great way to do the cameos of the older actors.

So they'll Star Trek 2009 it?

The cast and premise could be good, but the trailer just makes it seem meh.

They spoil lots of the jokes and most of the time they fall kinda flat. Maybe the actual movie is fine, but trailer did not do it any favors. In the era of over saturation of super hero origin stories, this seems to also fall a bit in that mold. Not excited for it.

You could even have the exact same damn setup if you just made her a damn engineer instead of "person who works at the subway station." Her in could STILL be knowing the lay of the city better than the rest of them while lacking the greater pool of paranormal knowledge. Plus she could actually contribute to refining and perfecting the equipment the team had already built. Basically taking care of the practical issues on the team while the rest took care of the ethereal.

But no, they're the smart ones when it comes to science and she knows New York.

It gets more infuriating the more I think of it.

That would actually be pretty cool, like they cross over to "1980s Ghostbusters New York", but pre Ghostbusters and run into some of the same characters, but not the ghostbusters themselves.

It could work, and would be a nice way to both break clean and make it a sequel.

I was just citing the original but you're absolutely right, it's inferred that both Egon and Ray have been fucking the mood slime in GBII.

The actual rolls of the cameos have already been revealed. The original characters are not going to be in this movie. The most recent interview with Feig from like, today, even confirms this is unquestionably a reboot and not some sort of sequel.

There's a device that's amplifying the psychokinetic energy that makes ghosts appear. The official plot synopsis says they they're ghosts from every era, and in the trailer we see that when they touch something, it turns it into a thing from their era. There's not gonna be any actual time travel, and there's not gonna be original Ghostbusters.

Well, at least that's what he says. Given that he stayed for Garfield 2, maybe he just found the paycheck appealing.
Wasn't he contractually obligated to do the sequel? Not that I don't think he wouldn't love the paycheck but I thought there was some other reason too.

Exactly this. Yo what the fuck were they thinking?

Getting slimed is all over GB2, I actually think it's overdone in that once they get the "slime cannons". But I love that part in GB2 where Egon admits to making love to the slime.

This trailer might just seem worse partially because it's just one slapstick moment after another. The originals had slapstick moments, but we're not slapstick movies. This could be true of this movie too, but you just can't tell because the trailer is missing any of the downtime and subtler moments.

"Improv was a key component to the original's success, and it will be for Feig's film. The director and his co-writer discussed how they kept the comedy "fresh" on set, relying on Dippold writing alternate lines on Post-Its and passing them to Feig as they shot, which he would then call-out to the actors on set. That is how one of the trailer's biggest laughs, "the power of Patty compels you!", came to be. This process allowed Feig to "capture that sense of lightning in a bottle," which the filmmakers stressed was key to good comedy.".

Okay, I just yelled "what" out loud at the blatant ignoring Ernie Hudson at the end.
Starring: white people!
And to think Hudson is actually a fun actor to watch too. :(

Other than that, it sold me on Bill Murray, possibly some ghostbuster friends of his.
also that full-on showing the ending, haha

He's not on the poster, box, or in any of that informative fine print on movie posters either.

Exactly, and knowing Feig, and being familiar with his work, and reading his thoughts and reasons for rebooting it, it's almost a shoe in that those moments will absolutely be in this movie.

Wiig's character gets laughed out of academia for believing in ghosts, for example. You don't think they're going to have some kind of heart to heart between her and McCarthy? With one of Feig's main reasons for rebooting this being that he wants to explore a world where humanity discovers ghosts are real, you don't think they're gonna have reflective moments on the implications of that? Come on. That's not the kind of shit you put in a 2-minute trailer for an horror comedy action movie.

But still, the fact Feig even considered that guy improv and suggested it is pretty telling don't you think?

No, the past few movies he's directed should be a better indicator of what you're going to get out of this

Also OH MY GOD I just realized Feig is that beanpole guidance counselor from freaking Heavyweights

Leslie Jones has a bit to say about this:

Not sure if you guys have seen the upcoming toys for the movie but there are some other bits and pieces of the plot that you can sort of guess at from those

There's a ghost that looks exactly like the ghost in the GB logo, but with spiky teeth, apparently named Rowan, some think he is the big bad.

There's another ghost that is basically a stereotypical demon with wings and horns look, speculation is that this is Ozzy's role in the movie.

There is also a toy of the Stay Puft marshmallow man, so he may be in the fun (or is maybe just a super popular design).

If this is Feig's idea of funny improv then this movie is
doomed, that was the worst part of the trailer.

Oh wow. Just when the hype couldn't get any lower.

Everyone in the fucking movie is a comedian. I'm not complaining about the jokes (which, I admit, I don't like) in thar post. I'm complaining about the character being the only fucking person on the team who doesn't have some kind of expertise AND the film having the fucking gall to have her cite her fucking "street smarts" as compensation for her lack of scientific accumen.

Fuck this movie and I hope it fucking bombs.

That all caps tweet is pretty much the way I expect Leslie Jones to tweet.

She even tweets loud.

I like her.

The character still comes off as token though. I can see why people would be upset.

Yeah, this exactly. She may come off as a stereotype but that's actually just Leslie. And what we're seeing in the trailer is most definitely not the entirety of her character.

So you didn't read her response to complaints like yours?

Especially this one:

If they have a wide variety of ghosts and weapons, this film might be more complex than the originals. The recent Ghostbusters video game had allot more depth to it.

So you didn't read her response to complaints like yours?

I dpn't twitter well, but having scrolled further.

I don't give a shit that she doesn't understand why this is a fucking travesty.

And that one you posted is even worse.

Holy fuck "it's just a movie". It's exposure. It's reprsentation. We just raised a shit fit over "just movies" for good fuckking reason. 3 movies and all my niece, nephew, and little cousins see is that the black one can't be as smart as the white ones. Fuck that.

We should all tweet her why she is stupid to love this role so much that she actually goes out and responses to the people who bash the movie without having seen it.

I think the concerns are super valid and I was disappointed as well but it's totally insane for folks to be jumping on twitter amd going after her for it.

The really funny thing about this is that the original in all of its 1980s pre-giving a fuck about racism was totally less offensive than this. Winston was the "normal everyman" in the crew to contrast how crazy the other 3 were. There was no mention of street smarts or anything lol. His purpose was to literally be the average joe.

That said his role was completely cut to basically next to nothing. He shows up way late in the movie and even after he shows up he disappears for a chunk.

He's not on the posters either.

I gather Jones will have a larger role for what it's worth.

Yeah that is ridiculous, absolutely not point in jumping on her for it, her choice if she wishes to be happy with the role and what it represents. Attacking her for it is accomplishing nothing.

If people don't like the movie or what certain aspects represent then don't go and see it, speak with the wallet.

Agreed.
