From the directors of Bolt and Wreck It Ralph I figured the movie would be entertaining but it seems its actually excellent all around from the reviews coming in. Its nearly unanimous praise from on all fronts that its both very funny for both children and adults but also deals with some topical and touchy issues, especially for a family friendly animated film, including racial stereotyping, the "us" vs "them" mentality, and so on. Perhaps we have the first huge animated film of the year! If nothing else furries will have a new banner film to celebrate! ;D

The Good Dinosaur was the first major animated film we skipped in theaters in as long as I can remember. Kid just wasn't interested in at all. Conversely, she will drag us to the theater tomorrow if she has to. She's dying to see this.

The John Lasseter effect... I believe they also moved a lot of the other Pixar talent to their Disney proper studios... it's no coincidence that in that time, Pixar movies suffered while Disney Animation Studios has been on the upswing (fairly certain of their last 5 CG movies, their lowest has been an 88 on RT).

Read the "rotten" review...not sure what she's getting at but haven't seen the film so can't comment, but the idea of racism and islamaphobia isn't really being brought up by other critics that I've seen so maybe her review is saying more about her worldview?.

I think Good Dino took an unfair beating, too. It wasn't typical Pixar / Disney, but it was a damn good movie.

Glad to know I'm not the only one it confused..

It seems to be trying to make a point through hints and suggestions but never comes out and bluntly states what specific issues the author has with the content in the film. Just dances around some vague criticism.

I still don't get it. When stories involve animals that treat species as stereotypes I don't hear anyone complaining. And now, for the first time ever, I find someone complaining that wanting diversity is problematic because... of animals? I just don't get it. Maybe I'm a stupid furry apologist but I think the critic tried and succeeded at making themselves relevant by being the first one to give it a sub 50% score (or a thumbs down? I don't know how RT works, never go there myself).

Should note that it currently has a 8/10 average rating which below some of Pixar's films that have scored in the upper 90s. Inside out has a 9/10 average rating. This more like How to Train Your Dragon.

Disney sort of cannibalized a good portion of Pixar's staff, so it's not really that crazy.
