Definitely watch it. While not as great overall as the first, it still has some awesome moments.
My mother loves McCarthy and ghostbusters, she'll /love/ this.
I, on the other hand, would have rather seen this be a soft reboot, with the old team having already split, and one of the characters giving these three smart/passionate ladies their basic ghostbusting gear and the house. Maybe there aren't any more ghosts around, and the new cast just really want to study them for reasons.
Tbh, I would have rather seen the "token black" ghostbuster be a real scientist character along with the other two, and McCarthy be the "token everyman" goofball as the character who is there for a paycheck and laughs. She couldve brought the same weird humor that Darth Helmet's character brought in the original movies. Maybe she's his daughter. Idk. McCarthy being a borderline liability could've been great, so would seeing how these new scientists build off of the tech that the first team invented.
I have no inherent problem with a girl-ghostbusters movie as a concept. It could have been a 10/10 ghostbusters 3: something based in the same world as the first two, but far enough apart that you really don't need to have seen them, and these new characters could really flex their muscles.
I was way more into this when Channing Tatum would have also had his own ghostbusting team. Having two teams (east coast/west coast?) would have been cool for the avengers-style crossover movie that was originally being talked about. But instead it's a hard girl-reboot.
I hope this isn't the first in a new trend of shallow girl-reboots. Girl Beverly Hills Cop, girl Indiana Jones, girl Star Wars, girl Fight Club, girl 2001 a Space Odyssey, jurassic park for girls, sex and the city, oprah 2, etc

Excuse me, but I am female, a feminist, and I was looking forward to see how this movie turned out... and I think the trailer is completely terrible. I don't care about Batman whatsoever, though I don't know what this has to do with anything.
But yeah, not sure why you're saying this. People here on GAF who dislike the trailer have articulated why and I haven't seen much whining about feminists or PCness or whatnot (on the contrary some have even pointed out the racist stereotyping) so I don't know where this is coming from...
The part of the trailer I dislike is the possessed McCarthy part. Not because of the content, but because the trailer comes to a screeching halt in pace and it's like.. they literally just dropped a late show scene clip into the trailer with no music and went "imma leave that there"

For me it was that as well as the content. It was just a really terrible way to end a trailer straight up. If it ended with an epic shot of them readying to fight Rowan or something it would've left a better impression on me.

Oh they botched the fucking hell out of the ending to the trailer for sure. They clearly have a lot of good shots of setpieces, because you see them in the damn trailer!
There's been reboots and mediocre trailers before, but the backlash this one got was way more extreme than the others. You honestly think this trailer was bad enough to deserve the hate it's getting? Whether you acknowledge it in yourselves or not, you gotta admit that sexism has a lot to do with what grinds people's gears about this movie.
The look is over-processed, artificial, sterilized digital trash.
It seems like a remake of something made by people who have zero understanding of what made the original thing good.

I was super negative the first time I saw the trailer and that was probably 85% why. The vomit gag is terrible, but brief and something I can get over or brush aside if it's more of an isolated incident. But if the entire movie is like that, I'm probably not gonna like it. But regardless of my initial hate, I know trailers can be misleading and sometimes even misrepresent the film on some level so I'm trying to keep an open mind. I really want it to be cool.
This is just bullshit. Just because the extremes on both sides are fighting it out doesn't mean we should fall for their narrative. A talk of a Ghostbusters sequel has been in the air for so many years, and it's such a beloved franchise. This trailer is pretty bad and the fanbase has rightfully criticized it. It looks like a huge disappointment so far.
Maybe not in this thread. I was referring to the dislike bar on YouTube. People want to hate on this movie from the start.

They had to read the terrible script a ton of times in order to memorize it.
As much shit as everyone is giving the Leslie Jones character, she's the only one putting any energy into this movie (from what I can see in the trailer, obviously). If we gif'd each clip that was shown in the trailer, it becomes obvious that Leslie Jones is acting, Kate McKinnon is just smirking with no clue that she's on camera, Melissa McCarthy is still trying to figure out what comedy is, and Kristen Wiig couldn't get out of the contract.

Well if anything I don't think they look bored. Hell it gives me some hope for at least Wiig and McKinnon to not be yelling at me for 2 hours, not so much the case for Jones. Melissa seems mostly quiet in a way, like she'll have quips and probably over the top moments like the possession scene but not screaming her way through it.

Oh there's been some of it. Just way early on. Some of it was disguised via hey check out this interesting reddit post that isn't at all sexist and some of it came in the shape of shitting on a young womans reddit post about how she was excited for the movie amd felt empowered by it's existence. That and people outright denying that the sexist campaign against this movie exists in a large size outside of GAF and is playing a significant role in the responses to it outside of GAF.
Frankly GAF is insulated largely because overt MRA bullshit isn't tolerated nearly as much as it is every fucking where else.

Agreed with alot of you said. I wouldn't say "large size or really majority* but I do think its very silly to see how the dislikes and the hate aren't mildly due to the backlash of a Remake to one of the most beloved comedies of all times, featuring a all main male cast.
Is nostalgia really the only reason an initial two-minute trailer is being subjected to this kind of backlash and scrutiny?
It's hard not to get the idea that there are people aching for this movie to fail, despite it being one of the only 80's "reboot" movies that is trying something new (with the genderswap thing) beyond black robot police armor being used instead of silver robot police armor. This even looks like a Ghostbusters movie to me. To be fair, if you recut Scooby-Doo and CGI'd the logo in there it'd look like Ghostbusters to me too. I don't understand the hate.
Would people be this harsh if most of the old cast had returned for "Geriatricbusters" and put out a shitty first trailer, or would more people be saying "ehhhh I'll wait for the movie?" Strange how selective we are with giving benefit of the doubt in some cases.
The original movie alone is a stone-cold classic, granted, but what other reboots have been faced with such high standards as to say that if the first trailer doesn't knock it out of the park, the whole project is a trainwreck?

Harold Ramis, Dan Aykroyd and Ivan Reitman... it was proverbial lightning in a bottle. None of those three despite having pretty solid careers really came close to another GB.
Well that's the bar they chose to be measured against when they decided to make a reboot.
If they can't deal with the expectations, they shouldn't have optioned this property.

Mentioning the OG GB movie in the intro in this trailer certainly didn't help either.
If you have actually bothered to watch the reboot Robocop they actually did something new. The new robocop was alot more human than the original. They actually had to slowly take away his humanity to turn him into an efficient machine. The reboot is a completely forgettable movie but they at least tried something.

It's not as bad as i thought after seeing the set photos. No desire to see it unless it really blows away expectations though.
The vibes just didnt feel right. I think they shouldve made the ghosts as creepy as possible and retain the hijinks obviously but keep those contrasting elements as the og ones had.

I bet that even an old Bill Murray with 3 ramdom girl ghost busters cracking jokes on a trailer would have gotten a better reaction.
When i heard they were changing the movie to be about new ghost busters that happened to be all females, i though "cool, that is a good way to not fuck it up because it won't be a remake or a straight sequel"
But this? not like this please.
The cast is horrible except for Kristen Wiig, and the writing and timing of the jokes misses the mark constantly, i doubt the movie will be any better, that long sectiion with the slaps was horrible, cringe worthy, and that's coming from someone who loves cheesy movies.
But this is bad cheese, and it doesn't seem to be so bad that is good cheese.
