Someone needs to tell him this, but I highly doubt he is going to be the last one to think like this.
I think he could be a troll.

Its not like Sony Just released a trailer that made every attempt it could to link the old movies to the new one showing the old firehouse etc. hey remember when 4 guys around 30 years ago saved the city? New crew back to do it again!

What's scary is how much of what he wrote actually seems realistically possible based on tidbits out there

He's supposedly working on the movie. There are things he didn't notice that frankly put holes in his story. Mostly the Times Square thing.

Anywho

Andre aka Black Nerd had a great video out on he trailer

That doesn't mean that it's not painting with a broad brush and creating a strawman to deflect legitimate criticism

This will be the third time I've clarified this specific point

Nobody's trying to deflect legitimate criticism at all. If anything, what we're doing is pointing out that the dislike bar on that one youtube video specifically has been hit by a very vocal minority of sexists, and that's a disproportionate component to why that specific dislike bar looks the way it does.

Now, unless you are a person who hit that dislike bar, and hit it because you don't like that the film stars women, then pointing said phenomenon out shouldn't fucking bother you at all. It certainly doesn't diminish your complaints about the film, nor is pointing out that there are assholes trying to take a bat to the film's kneecaps in the name of misogyny any reflection on you and your seeing the advertisement for the film to be subpar.

Nobody is trying to say that because less than 100k people on the internet thumbed down a youtube video that everyone who dislikes the film dislikes it because they're sexist. What they're saying is that the totals for the dislikes on that specific video are being artificially inflated due to vocal sexists asserting themselves in a fairly cheap, easy way.

There are millions of people who dislike the trailer who didn't hit thumbs up OR down, and their opinions seem to be based entirely on the commercial not appealing to them aesthetically. That's it.

So again:

Nobody's saying you not liking the commercial is instant evidence of sexism. You don't have to try to argue that the sexism isn't there in order to ensure your opinion isn't lumped in with the obvious assholes everyone can see. You don't have to pretend they're not there, and argue that we're crazy for seeing them, just so you can feel safe in suggesting it was a bad commercial.

There is no reason to see a phenomenon that is obviously, blatantly observable, and then argue that it's not happening, all for the sake of not having to worry that someone somewhere might think you're sexist.

That's the insecurity Stufte kept falling back on earlier.

Also: If that reddit post (and the accuracy on reddit posts from preview screenings is somewhere around fucking 5% honestly. It's the easiest bucket to chum, I swear to God) is real, it's funny that this cut apparently makes it completely unclear that there's a time travel element at play, considering you can WATCH THE TRAILER and see it clear as day.

Speaking of the time travel aspect in the trailer... It appears it's a throw back to the bicentennial parade in New York. Taxi Driver came out in Feb of 76, so it lines up to have that movie poster there as well as the giant Uncle Sam stilt walker ghost. No idea if that specific date has any real meaning for the plot of the movie, just thought I'd throw out that observation.

You know SPY is kinda fucking funny. I'm not sure if it's McCarthy or just Jason Statham that's fucking hilarious.

"What? How'd I get into this shitbox hotel? Because I'm a real spy."

"Well I make a habit of doing things that people say I can't do. Walk through fire. Waterski blindfolded. Pick up piano at a late age."

"This arm has been ripped off completely... and reattached with this fucking arm."

Every single person in that movie is amazing. McCarthy's British number 2 is incredibly underrated.

Yeah, McCarthy, Statham, Byrne, Miranda Hart - there are a lot of really good moments to go around in Spy

Jude Law, Peter Serafinowicz, whoever the hell that nordic looking lanky flunkie was...

That reddit post is bullshit. Almost all the "I saw a screening" posts are bullshit.

Yeah, I laughed when someone asked him about the time travel part we see in the trailer which he completely missed in his plot summary.

Also not sure someone who works directly in post production would talk this much shit on a film whose production is sustaining his livelihood, no matter how big of a Ghostbusters fan he is.

Come on, guys.

I watched it only Statham was funny but overall all kevin feig comedy movies are boring as fuck.

I dunno man, I loved Winter Soldier.

Well, he could be right about the movie being shit at least.=p

I dunno man, I loved Winter Soldier.

I thought Guardians of the Galaxy was pretty funny/exciting.
Those movies are great!!!

A liar accidentally guessing right in the middle of his sprawling lie isn't a thing you should probably be giving said liar any credit for.
Yeah, that's true. Guess we have to wait and see how this movie turns out, although I wouldn't be surprised if it's mixed in reactions.

How come that picture of Feige isn't one of those tiny floating head emojis like crying Jordan and Throw the Damn Towel Duke?

That face just fucking kills me.

People are falling for that reddit post? Not surprised, every dude on the internet is hellbent on seeing this movie fail, but come the hell on.

40 hours to get funded!

You can even get tickets to the premiere of the reboot with a $5000 donation!

Like or hate the new movie, you should at least check out this documentary on the original 2 films! They are about $15,000 or £10,000 short of their goal. Stretch goal of £48,000 (£40,000 is base goal), gets us a 4+ hour "directors cut" from the 70+ interviews.

There's also this one, Ghostheads

It's more about the fans with interviews from the cast and crew, 5 days left with $36,339 CAD of the $40,000 CAD goal.

Also, I'll be in it, unless I'm left on the cutting room floor

It's laughable, really. All of the hate is either nostalgia or, well, cast related. And what surprises me the most is that so many on GAF are also on this train, I expected different.

So far, all I saw is so, so much better than I expected. Can't wait to finally watch this. And I really hope the cast will know how to deal with the 'Ethics in Ghostbusting' audience on social media, damnit.

He also didn't mention Ozzy Osbourne. Really, everything in that post could just be cobbled from leaks and the trailer.

why is everyone trying to be funny? the whole schtick with the original gang is you had intentionally funny Venkman, sincere but unintentionally funny Stantz, straight-laced but unintentionally funny Spengler, and everyman Zeddemore.

everyone in this trailer is cracking jokes.

That's what I didn't like either. I watched the original movie again after seeing the trailer, and that only reinforced how bad this looks so far..

I dislike that awkward style of comedy. It's ok if done sparingly, but it seems to be a Feig thing and it bugs me.

Have to admit that I was 12 when the original came out and I was OBSESSED with the franchise for a long time, so that probably why I'm so annoyed at this trailer.

Off topic slightly, but I'd like a current gen remake of the last game. I really enjoyed hearing all the guys together again, and the story would have been a great movie.

I can say with 100% certainty that not all of the hate is cast or nostalgia related.

Most of GAF (and the general populace) it seems, just didn't like the trailer.

This is coming from someone who actually enjoyed the trailer, even if not every part of it stuck the landing

You are right on the mark, There's nothing wrong with the cast or even that they are making another movie. The issue is that the trailer is very poor heck even the fan edit trailers seem to make a difference not enough to save the trailer but it is better. I don't think anyone should write the movie off at least right now but I am incredibly wary about how this movie will turn out and the trailer doesn't help this feeling.

Haven't seen many posts about the music, but I'm definitely a fan of the remixed original theme song.
I can't wait to hear the full thing, It seems like a very good remix.

Hmm, alright, I'll take your word for it then. I hope you're right.

Yes! If it's available anywhere, let me know.

I don't think that's it. There are certain elements of the film that have changed, but the whole tone has been completely bastardised. Ghostbusters had some great one liners and subtle comedic scenes. Even something as simple as in the library and some others:

Ray: Shhhh! Can you smell something?
Peter: Yes, it's true this man has no dick
Policeman: You do you job pencilneck, and I'll do mine

And you look at the difference in the new trailer. McKinnon with some wig on hiding amongst heads, McCarthy getting slapped because she's possessed, the ghost puking on Wiig. I think the biggest thing for me is the lack of tension. In retrospect, Peter getting slimed is quite funny, but that scene is still tense with slimer rushing the viewers screen. From this trailer, here there's just no tension.

I'll sympathise somewhat as the cast are carrying a lot of flak from what appears to be really poor screenwriting. They seem to have gone for just lazy slapstick everywhere. It's like MDF in 'Changing Rooms'. Every scene in that trailer has just had the tension removed - and the screenwriters are not exactly covering themselves with glory here about the male/female division (the girly gasps as the trap closes for example, or McKinnon unable to control herself by playing with fashion accessories to name the most obvious).

The nostalgia complaint is really strange (not just from you but from everyone). They're doing a reboot of a well liked movie. They haven't done anything different with the cast (except make them female), they even still keep the same archetypes down to the token black ensemble cast member. The introduction scene is pretty much like for like with the library scene:

https://youtu.be/MYjFKsJjCP0?t=45s

Except they've added the comedic vomiting for some reason. No one is expecting a movie that's rated '18/R' and has violence and has real 'horror' elements in it. But it should still have a creepy vibe. Take the landing of the Titanic with the dead souls, or when the actual ghosts are going round New York:

https://youtu.be/yU616pySRLE?t=25s \\ Old scene
https://youtu.be/w3ugHP-yZXw?t=1m37s \\ New scene (till about 1:55, it cuts)

I can appreciate that maybe they're toning down the horror element as they want to get a younger audience in but then you have to understand that this is the equivalent of Scooby Doo or The Haunted Mansion mixed with Scary Movie type of humour (judging by the trailer). The reason why there is such a large mix of opinion and a lot more vitriol is probably because it doesn't hold strong appeal for any one audience demographic - if you were looking at this objectively who would you say this film is aimed at? Who makes up the core target audience? There's bits here and there for different audiences but it's still not clear what type of film it actually is. Which is probably why it's been dumbed down. Because kids etc. are not going to be the ones logging onto forums or deem it an important enough distraction to vent about.

And I think people are over egging the downvotes due to the all female cast. The writing is terrible from what we've seen and the light relief is as subtle as getting wet fished in the face. This film would be getting the same amount of hate if the cast was (for example) Sandler, Stiller, Ferrell and Chris Rock.

You last comment baffles me though. How bad were you expecting it to be to say that? Or what type of film were you expecting. This is about as messy and left field from the original as possible. I mean I generally give most things a chance and I'll probably even see this, but I'm not expecting anything from it from what I've seen. I'll see it more out of curiosity and hope that this trailer is not really representative of the entire film.

I really like the style they're going for, from a visual standpoint. The 'ghostly' glowy greens look fantastic and modern, yet "Ghostbusters". The Ecto scenes were great, most of the jokes worked for me, McCarthy and Wiig both work way better than I thought they would and - in my opinion - the cast already oozes (ha) character and works together really well.
Loved the trailer music, liked the callback in the beginning and the city scenes as well.

So yeah, I'm totally fine with the trailer and pleasantly surprised, I honestly expected stupid looking "serious" ghosts, little comedy and grimgrittydark everythings.

Well maybe some people have higher standards and expectations.

Ahahahaha :D Cute! And thank you for that really good and comprehensible reasoning in your post, too!

30 years ago, four scientists saved the world. Now forget about those guys, they don't exist anymore. There's a new team, new continuity, hey remember Slimer?

And then you remember just about everyone from the original is going to get a cameo...

Why not embrace the universe? After Viggo, they set up shop all over the world, but busting has been good and there's no more ghosts. The franchise has gone into decay, branches have gone bankrupt. And now, there's been a sudden surge of ectoplasmic activity, McKinnon and Wiig discover the source and hunt down Venkman, Zeddmore and Stantz for advice. They help them get set up, they recruit McCarthy and Jones, and they're ready to go bust some ghosts...

The start of the trailer with that high pitched music was excellent. That set off a good vibe but then it completely changed. I'll also agree that the ghost in the 'library' scene was actually well done until it started vomiting. Later this was ruined by that city scene though. Looks like the neon came alive. It's like everything passable or good was then undone. It's a shame really. It looks like a film designed by committee. I think individually the cast is OK (except McCarthy - she just doesn't suit the role for me at all), but I don't get the chemistry between them from that trailer.

I think Ghostbusters is one of those films, whose legacy was to bridge the generational gap. It was rated 'PG' apparently? It had enough subtle creepiness for the adults with the reserved but effective visuals for those younger. There was a good mix of unsettling phenomena. Just a bit disappointing that this one makes no such attempt at something that I kind of expected.

We'll see how it goes anyway.

I wonder if this will fall on "good time if you're drunk" or "dogshit" category.
No way i'll go see this in theaters, and never though i would say that about a new ghostbusters movie.
