"The Studio are becoming gun shy of playing the feminism/ misogyny card for publicity purposes after the terminal under performance of Warner Bros. Mad Max Fury Road."
Ehh...? They were using Mad Max: Fury Road as a barometer for this movie? Granted, Mad Max: Fury Road wasn't an amazing performer at the box office, but it wasn't exactly a failure either. Fury Road miraculously did quite well given how much it had stacked against it. It was an obscure franchise that hasn't seen the light of day since 1985, it was R-Rated and didn't get a huge amount of promotion. But word of mouth and extremely positive buzz from critics helped make that movie a success. It also has 6 Oscars under its belt and will see a lot more success post release.
You do have to take this stuff with a grain of salt, but given that these rumors are coming from Sony, I would have to say that this doesn't sound good. It's weird that McCarthy wanted this movie to be "good" like the cartoon series. I mean you can see the cartoon series influence here, especially in Kate McKinnon's costume. She is going all out SatAM and not holding back. But it is still a weird statement.
Sony being scared of this movies failure isn't though. Honestly, this is their big summer blockbuster and they only started advertising now.
Wi8nston had hie moments in the movies, but to be honest I liked his character more in the Saturday Morning cartoon series. I feel like they fleshed out his character in ways that the movies didn't. He also took on the role of the resident mechanic in the cartoon series.
