Looks like it's going to get funded! About $4000 to go in 9 hours. It would have to earn another $10,000 on top of that to get the 4+ Hours "Directors Cut", so that probably won't be happening.

1. I hated the trailer from the moment it designated three scientists but I held out an inkling of hope.
2. Hated the trailer because it was trash.
3. Hate affirmed when the black lead was revealed as a transit worker.

I'll be more than pleased to keep my wallet shut for this movie.

No I can't deny the depiction of her character isn't stereotypical.

If they put out a second trailer I think it's going to address a lot of the criticisms theyve been bombarded with.

They'd have to totally redo Leslie Jones role for me to set foot in that theater and that isn't going to happen.

Wish there was more outrage when gays mince across the screen in lots of films.

I can't help but think people are using the faux outrage for the stereotypical depiction of a black person, who if she had a problem with wouldn't take the role, as an excuse to hate this version of Ghostbusters.

I'd be very interested in a granular writeup of who disliked and why. I wonder what the ratio would be if you take out all the people who hate the film just because there were women in it.

I don't like the trailer. Its not that funny, and i'm not seeing anything that interesting.

I hope its a bad trailer. I want it to do well, i want all ladie ghostbusters to be a thing. But that wasnt good.

Though i still maintain two of them ghost busters should have been amy poehler and tina fey

I think that opening the movie (in a way) and the trailer with the vomit gag is just terrible.

Pitch Perfect was a movie that opened with a vomit gag. But there it was done with a reason. What's the reason here? Wiig getting doused in vomit just for laughs? I was not laughing.

The humor seems crass and vile. The black lady is like a cartoon character from 1920.

No way I am giving away any monies for this turd.

I liked the trailer. The "me first you first" joke was bad but other then that. I dunno, looks cool. Have never seen Ghostbusters though.

I'm just glad it took a ghostbusters remake for people to start caring about stereotypes in black characters.

I don't think this movie has anything to do with it. It, like Gods of Egypt are coming out at the wrong time as it pertains to black people. Folks have been outwardly more vocal than ever before. It at least seems that way from my perspective.

For sure. People have been talking about this stuff ever since #OscarsSoWhite. It just hasn't been this vocal until now. I hope we start to analyse how black characters are written a lot more, because right now it's not so good.

Why do I feel like Jason Reitman could have been a better fit for this? And I really like the idea of gender-swapping.

y'all do realise that if you're wrong about this thing the crow you're going to have to eat will be thirty-five feet long and weighing approximately six-hundred pounds, right?

Why are people hung up about the black actress being a transit worker. It's really not a big deal. And it's actually misguided to just outright claim that she's acting very stereotypically if that's how she acts. It's like you guys want black people to act how you want them to act.

Is it just because he's Ivan's kid? I love Jason's work (Thank You For Smoking might be my favorite movie of 2005, and I loved having to seek it out when it was in theaters in Boise), but his discography doesn't really lend itself to this.

All signs point to Jones' character being the plot starter anyways, so I really don't get what the issue is. She's clearly got far more importance than Hudson's character did.

That´s a horrible argument.

"That´s how she acts"

More like that´s how she was written, casted and directed.

There are a million and one reasons to dislike the direction of a reboot with a vastly different creative direction, but only one that lets you wrap up your distaste in a way that makes you feel socially positive while typing "it's OK if there's one black member, so long as she isn't TOO black."

What a stunningly wild coincidence this is the one aspect of the trailer that replaced all the generalized misogyny on reddit.

That´s a horrible argument.

"That´s how she acts"

More like that´s how she was written, casted and directed.
Should these same complaints be retroactively applied to the rest of her comedy career?

I mean, for the sake of argument, I have a feeling the main four's roles were written specifically for them. At the very least, McCarthy and Wiig's were, and I'm guessing they had heavy input on who got the other two, considering Wiig's an SNL alum

I like that they seem to be positioning this as a sequel instead of a reboot; I don't mind the female cast but I dislike the idea of pretending the other movie and it's cast never existed. With cameos from Murray and Aykroyd, I'm hoping it's more of a "we're too old for this shit, we need a new hero and you 4 look perfect."

I have pretty big hopes for this movie, as both a Ghostbusters movie and a movie with Wiig and McKinnon in it, both of whom are pretty great (the other two are good, but these two are some of the funniest women around IMO).

This trailer left a lot to be desired, however. I'm going it's just bad editing, but this feels all wrong. More importantly, it wasn't very funny. The movie looks OK, but I'm hoping for a lot better than OK.

The movie is a hard reboot. Not a sequel. The old Ghostbusters didn't exist in this 'universe'.

The original actors won't be making cameos as their characters.

Trailer looked pretty terrible. Will still watch it though, but I can't shake the feeling that this will be another Melissa flick, though without any of the awesome cussing going around. Also, super-forced humour 101.

It's not about how she acts, it's that she gets to be the one who isn't educated like the others. Being "street smart" doesn't mean she has to not be as highly educated like the rest (see Bill Murray in the orginal). Instead of the MTA worker who "reads a lot books" she could've easily been a history grad who sees the ghosts and helps out. Shit she could've even been the MTA worker who because of her personality couldn't get a job with her degree. The problem again is that the non-scientist and "ordinary" person always has to be the minority, and it's frustrating to see again.

To be fair, from what I understand, there are several cast members (including Murray) who hold various rights to the franchise. Even if the other three original guys (Aykroyd/Ramis/Reitman) had wanted to do a third film way back then, they would have needed to get Murray's approval to get it moving.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they basically cajoled everyone into giving their blessings/agreement to push it forward.

I think it was mostly just Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis and Reitman that held the movie rights. I don't think Weaver, Hudson and Potts held any stakes in the series. But yeah, Murray did give up his rights in 2012. Maybe because he was sick of holding onto them? I don't know. Sigourney Weaver may have jumped on board because she regretted not voicing her character in the videogame. I don;t imagine it took much to get Ernie Hudson or Annie Potts to return, for them it was probably like 'If everyone else is making a cameo, why not?'.

The reveal trailer did wreak of nostalgia push. That intro was so horribly implemented. But I won't write this movie off so quickly. I will wait and see more before making more judgement calls.

Take it for what you will, but I've said this before on here. My brother is a huge GB nut - like "Hi I created a fan series of Ghostbusters and its' up on youtube and I bought a brand new Suburu Outback and turned it into a Ghostbuster-mobile, complete with my Ghostbusters logo" type fan. Anyway, he drove Ernie Hudson from (I think) chicago to someplace in MI for a convention and he got to chat with him a lot. He asked Ernie what he thought and, first things first, he said that Ernie was a nice guy but he had no real love for Ghostbusters. Basically, it was just a job. He then asked about cameo in new one, etc and Ernie basically said he turned it down until they offered him enough green to do it.

So no, Ernie did it for the green, not the "hey, I'll join the rest of the crew!" Again, you can take all this with as much salt that you want - I just know what my over-the-top-love-of-GB brother told me and I firmly believe him. LOL

I will take your word on this. I was just speculating on what could have happened. But I can totally believe that Hudson held out until they gave him a fat pay check. To be honest, it would be the right thing to do.

it could have been handled better if it had a better cast, a better director and just kept in the same universe as the original

Dan Akroyd has tons of ideas in his scrapbook but the studio execs ignored it all and decided to go on their own with tacked Hard Reboot.

In the GB video game, they hinted that other chapters were operating in different major cities in the US like the Chicago chapter.

i hate the idea of a hard reboot that the studio execs took

I don't know why they didn't do the passing of the torch movie. It couldn't have been that hard. Even if they couldn't get Murray or Ramis back, there is Akroyd and Hudson, Weaver. I'm annoyed but I'll still rent it, and my jaded ass won't be able to think .... 'Man what could have been....'

Why do I feel like Jason Reitman could have been a better fit for this? And I really like the idea of gender-swapping.

No way. :\ His version of this would be about a bunch of middle aged Ghosbusters encountering middle-aged malaise with some added snark thrown in.

I mean, maybe not, but there's nothing about his body of work that screams Ghostbuster-worthy to me. Paul Feig is way closer to Ivan Reitman in terms of comic sensibility IMO.

The videogame was so pitch perfect that I kinda wish they'd pull a Shadows of the Empire and make a new Ghostbusters franchise with everything but an actual film.

It was Feig's idea.

Also he's an excellent filmmaker

This was kind of what my brother had said too. He's excited for it to be all women but he was like "Why couldn't they just have made, say, Dan Akroyd be, say Melissa McCarthy's dad or something?" I am personally hyped for this movie, but I could see that totally working and (most likely) making this better. I don't think that it's going to be a bad movie at all, honestly, but I think there could have been a few things that could have been tweaked.

That was another thing my brother said too, that Hudson said to him (I hope I don't get him in trouble for repeating this shit). He said that Akroyd DOES have big love for the franchise, but it's not just about the franchise, Akroyd also loves the dollars just as much. That's totally what, 3, 4 people removed so again, take with salt, but that also kind of surprised my brother, because any time you see Akroyd talk about it, he's super excited and stuff.

I think my brother has met Akroyd in passing but I don't think he's met Murray. Obv not Ramis. I told him he HAS to call me when he gets to meet Annie Potts though. I <3 her for Designing Women. And I'll hate him forever if he ever gets to meet Weaver. I think I'd faint. I love the women of Ghostbusters.

I should have said "even though" instead of "even if". I know they've been batting around ideas since the mid-90s, if not earlier, and Murray was a big part of why production was held up for so long.

After thinking on it, this trailer reminds me of what I didn't like about GB2: as much as it felt like a Mad Libs version of the first film, it was also more of a series of skits than anything else. This trailer feels the same way - just from first impressions alone, it feels like an SNL gag that's been stretched out.

I much would have rather something like the supposed Stupnitsky/Eisenberg script (which supposedly dealt with everyone having moved on to better things, but then reforming and hiring a new team to combat a Cthulhu-like creature) than this. There was very little in the trailer that was funny or not just a retread from the first film.

Is it just me, or Milissa MaCarthy is just playing the same character in every movie she is in? Sort like what happened to Jim Carey.

In some cases yes, but she's also managed to show enough range and style to not necessarily warrant the criticism as well. I think people get caught up that a good amount of her roles are physical comedy and that does roll into each other, but she's shown a good ability to create different characters within that framework. Some sweet. Some crass. Some villainous. Some surprisingly emotional. Etc...

I wouldn't say excellent, he is above average in the niche film be does but he stays inside his comfort zone and rarely does anything remarkable.

I doubt any of his movies will go down in history so I find excellent to be a bit strong.

I honestly can't believe he got ghostbusters when there are far more talented directors that would have really done it justice but you know that's just a personal opinion, I found Bridesmaids funny, I thought spy was funny in parts but fairly average in general.

Spy was phenomenal and I also loved The Heat.

Maybe excellent was a strong word but he's never let me down yet.

I cringed through this whole thing. I wanted to like it but I just can't.

Engineer girl is cute though, reminds me of Britta from Community

Kate McKinnon. She's absolutely hysterical. Check out the recent "Close Encounters" sketch from SNL.

I'm excited simply because of her and Kristen Wiig, whom I've been a fan of since her early days on The Joe Schmo Show.

I hope the streak continues with this film.

I really want to see GB come back in a big way. It feels like all the pieces are there for this film, just hope they managed to make it work.
