The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky the 3rd coming west for PC in 2017

Hopefully this doesn't bomb like SC did. It seems like cold steel is their best selling one in the west and that might be because of the school settings. I don't think this one is gonna do all that well especially going by SC steam sells and that was on more than just PC.

I know for a fact we better get the crossbell games on vita or I'll riot.

Their best selling is easily First Chapter on steam.

Franchises are released across several platforms all the time, that's very common. Why is that an issue for this series more than any other? It's very rare to have all titles of a long series available on one system.

It's not like a PS3 or Vita TV is prohibitively expensive these days
The difference is there's not many series that are this long and over that many platforms and also need that continuity for the players to grasp the story and to be able to enjoy the narrative properly. The only one I can think of is Kingdom Hearts which has been widely ridiculed for it's platform hopping that Square themselves acknowledged was a mess. They fixed it by doing collections to bring the series and continuity to a platform base. Why they skipped Xbox I don't know, but they did what they had to consolidate the franchise. Trails kind of needs something similar.

At least in the West anyway since it's not really an issue in Japan. If and when localisation catches up in the West it won't realy matter here either but until then it's a bit all over the place. Like I said I'll play wherever, but a large amount of people won't

Can we stop with the "SC bombed"? It'll continue to sell and do fine. XSEED has said so themselves multiple times, they obviously arent only focusing on short term profit when it comes to this franchise.

This has been the story ever since SC released. " Oh no it bombed (because XSEED did mistake x y and z) we'll never get 3rd."

Now we're getting 3rd and people still keep saying the same thing.

Dunno, we need LETS POSITIVE THINKING and we keep getting this.

Do we have numbers for Cold Steel or...? Because as far as we know Trail FC on PC is the best selling title.

The price is fine. You don't need to sell the game at a discount to people who won't even play it from the very beggining. That can happen years down the line with big discounts.

People who played FC bought SC at full price, selling it for cheaper would have lost them money.

Bigger numbers on steamspy don't mean anything when you sell your game for 50% less

Not entirely true, someone pointed out in another thread how one of the Neptunia games (I think) was released around the same time, but had more, bigger discounts, and it's resulting sales brought in more revenue than SC, despite SC selling at a higher price point.

It depends on what you think the game will sell at different price points over time. XSEED probably doesn't think sales would be substantially better at a lower price yet. The 30% discount is dipping their toes in the water to see where the audience for a lower price is.

Neptunia needs to be on sale for 6 dollars every week because it's Neptunia.

SC will probably do better over time, it's just not gonna be as initially friendly to impulse buys being a sequel to a very niche, very large game.

Agreed. I'm sure there are many who thought Trails was a trilogy, and people will likely continue to refer to the 3rd as TC. Just having more Trails out does wonders for the series as a whole. It makes it easier to recommend, more people will be willing to give it a chance, and the fans that get hooked can continue to be relied on.

I am so happy right now, I can't believe we will be getting 3rd so soon. Thanks to XSEED, especially Brittany, Sara and unnamed CS translator! If I could buy you a beer or a shot over the internet, I would do it!

I understand people's frustration that the PSP version isn't getting released, but it just isn't feasible. Many of the "options" people have proposed aren't options either because of Falcom or SCEA or Licensing or w/e. The Gaijinworks suggestion is especially not feasible. That would cost a lot of money, and the number of sales that they would get would not balance out the cost, not to mention they would have to get Falcom to allow it, and Victor Ireland to agree to it. Vic and XSEED already have some bad history with Lunar Silver Star Harmony, so I can almost guarantee you that he would not do this, nor would XSEED be able/willing to pay him enough to make it worth his time.

I wish XSEED could make every person happy with this, but unfortunately they can't. Damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I do wonder how many of the people that "were gonna buy SC when TC happened" are a lot of the same that "weren't gonna buy FC until SC happened?"

Well this is awesome. Guess they're happy enough with SC PC sales or confident enough in the long term sales. With some discounts and maybe bundles I'm sure it'll do fine in the long run. Steam games do have a longer tail than console games.

SC is selling at a high price (still hasn't been below $21) and gets a bump when it goes on even gentle sale; extra sales of FC at $10 have the potential to turn into SC sales down the road. I think a lot of us would like to see it do even better, but I don't think claims that it "bombed" are really accurate when the sales lifecycle of a title like this on PC is so long, and it's not hard to imagine that it was worthwhile for them monetarily.

It should have launched at $20 on the PC which would have made it $14 with the 30% discount today and it would have seen a ton more sales.

Why? The game will be $14 eventually and the people who played FC but thought $30 was a bit too steep for the followup will still be there.

Good news. I just bought today SC on Vita thanks to the sale; I did not know it had already been released in Europe (for some reason it is not listed in my psp Vita storefront, I had to search for it).

I never play games on PC nor do I have steam or anything installed so I doubt I will play this. But the option will be there which is more than most of us expected. For now I have a lot to digest with SC and later Cold Steel and maybe Cold Steel II.

SHE WHO DWELLS IN THE SKY

THIS IS THE BEST DAY EVER HOLY SHIT

THANK YOU XSEED

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Praise be to She Who Dwells Above.

Anyway, like I said in the tease thread and as Tom confirmed, for better or worse Carpe Fulgur isn't involved with this one, and further collaboration doesn't seem terribly likely, as much as that bums me out (because Crossbell is so good, y'all, you have no idea). Still, in the hands of Brittany, Sara, and I suspect our own Mr. Varion, I have no doubt that 3rd will turn out great and y'all should set your hype train engines to maximum steam.

And yeah, while I don't think I'm at liberty to discuss actual numbers (those NDAs are scary), I'm pretty sure I can say that everyone involved is pretty confident SC will do well long-term. (Of course, you can certainly take advantage of that sale right now to help out, if you feel so strongly about it. Just, y'know. Pointing that out.)

Sounds good to me, long as I get to play the crossbell games before I die I'm cool.

Nice, though it means I won't be playing FC and SC until closer to TC's release as I prefer to play series in one straight go (even though I know TC isn't that important storywise, it's just something I prefer to do).

It really shows how they aren't accustomed to the long terms profit that a PC release entails.

We also know the series have sold 350,000 copies to date, 172,538 ± 9,395 which are Trails in the Sky FC on Steam.

We should remember FC and SC are also on GOG and they were first on the top sellers list after their release. FC it was on the top even for one week or two.

I'm totally late to the party here, sorry dudes.

"Recommended" requirements are a 2005-2006 era PC. Minimum even lower than that. If you have a PC it's probably "good enough."

I know this was lots of pages back, but I don't think anyone actually posted Falcom's original requirements for the game. (Source.)

Requirements:
OS: Windows 8/7/Vista XP Japanese Version
CPU: Pentium III 800mhz or Higher minimum, Core 2 Duo 2GHz or higher Recommended
HDD Space: 3.7gb
Memory: (8/7/Vista) 1GB or Higher, (XP), 384MB or Higher
DirectX: DirectX 9.0c on onward
Monitor: 640x480 minimum resolution, HighColor (65,536 colors) or higher
Graphics: VRAM 32MB or Higher, DirectX9.0c compatible card
Sound: DirectX9.0c Sound
Media: 1 DVD-ROM, so DVD-ROM drive required

I'm 40+ hours into SC and still enjoying it so much. I love this series and I can't express how excited I am to hear we get the 3rd Chapter! I honestly didn't think it was going to happen based on everything surrounding the localization of SC.

If XSEED will ever tackle the Crossbell games I hope they'll bring you back :)

I want to thank everybody that replied to my post here. I'll definitely give it some thought about playing FC and SC on my Vita and just try to find a complete save to import for TC on PC.

If only a kickstarter created for the psp/vita port, it will work for everyone involved!
much thanks for xseed, specially the people behind making this dream come true!

Brittany, Sara, and the unnamed Cold Steel translator are the heroes we deserve.

Thanks to you three (and everyone at XSEED) i dont have to live in a world where there's no more Trails games coming out in English.

That "unnamed translator" is actually Varion on GAF. :P

Yes, it was done for FC and SC. But the voice acting is minimal, it's just a few in-battle quotes.
It was done for SC as well? I looked into it myself but only very briefly, and put it on the back burner when I realized I wasn't going to play SC in 2015 anyway. So someone already finished it in the meantime? Nice!

Hmm looks like I need to finish FC, I didn't even start SC yet despite buying it before even finishing FC.

I got plenty of time though as 2017 is quite far off.

I thought this day might never come, praise be to Aidios. Really hope that means we get Zero/Ao within the next decade that would be awesome.

Played all the Keski games on Vita but I guess I now have to go buy FC/SC on PC! Do CS 1/2 work with Vita TV, might as well have all the games full screen from now on lol (Assuming CS3 is Vita/PS4 of course).

Edit: And done!
