Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Their new creatives video had a number of shots of the Dev team working in the studio, and Ofcourse, there were many blurred monitors. The interesting bit is, all the blurred screens were blue. There was a lot of blue going on. Hmmmmmmmm.

Blue you say....hmmm could be Colony Wars??

This might be about nothing new but on the latest Game Scoop Brian Altano mentions that they just had a meeting about The Last Guardian at IGN this past week, maybe there is a preview event or something coming soon?

He mentions it here

The story about the cancellation broke Feb 2014, alongside all the layoffs. Cory has been back with the company since August, 2013, however.

I understand that next-gen development takes a lot of time and resources, but hey, atleast show us a logo and announce the game already. It's not like he didn't unofficially announce it at PSX 2014.

Then people will complain sony is showing games too early.

Please announce your announcement!

Last time I remember someone doing that (Akihiro Hino) it didn't even end up happening!

"too early to tell"

That works two ways.

SSM are so talented, and Cory is fantastic. I'm stoked for their game.

Didn't they only start recruiting for a team when Cory joined? It makes sense that the project isn't far along for announcement.

O feb 2014 thought it was '13 eh...well than it makes sense its still early than.

Coming up on 9 months since the re-reveal, I hope they show something soon. Maybe some non-PSVR stuff will be at GDC as well.

I was thinking we would get a teaser of GoW4 at E3 and a release date of spring 2017. If that tweet is anything to go by (I have my doubts), it may seem that late 2017 is optimistic. We'll see though. That tweet may be smoke and mirrors.

You can pretty much bet it is. Especially after Cory slipped up and straight up said that they were working on GoW at PSX 2014.

God of War IV could finally achieve that Zelda-like open structure!

Point being, we don't know how ambitious their game is.

edit: not sure where to post this but hopefully first party at least are experimenting with this:

Sony shows off its first set of weird and wild Future Labs prototypes
The last gadget Sony showed off was a bit more low-key than these demos, but no less fun. It was an advanced haptic controller -- basically a touch screen with an accelerometer and some seriously impressive haptic feedback capabilities. The demo I tried basically amounted to a ball on the touchscreen, and as I tilted the controller, I could "feel" the ball bouncing around. It was as if there actually was a rubber ball contained inside the controller, and its bouncing felt real in my hands. You could even switch up the material of the ball, so a metal ball had its own distinct haptic feeling. It was a weird experience, but it seems like the kind of thing that'll be great in the next PlayStation controller.
I bet Hideo would love to integrate that into a new game.

Yeah, I am expecting some sort of teaser this year. He ain't killing my hype! Surely they can do that much by now? Even if the game is still a ways off like late 2017 or what not.

3 years seems like more of the norm, not 4.
Sure, but games needing that extra year or so isn't necessarily unusual or cause for concern. The variance in size, scale and spending have to be taken into account.

afaik there is SP-DLC confirmed for Uncharted 4 right?? Which means we will probably get the announcement at E3 2016 or PSX.

other than that

Sony Bend + Santa Monica should be safe bets for E3.
Sucker Punch...maybe?
Crash Bandicoot developedy by ???

What a joke, +4 years to develop a game? Get your shit together SSM.

I have to agree here, of all the studios not named PD, SSM are really taking the piss in terms of their next big game. Barlog has been there for well over 2 years now, even if the game is announced this E3 which should be the case, it will have been almost 3 years since he rejoined the studio. That's just insane, chances are we get GOW4 next year if we are lucky so a good 4 years since Ascension at best.

Bend and SSM are really due to show their hand at this point, they can't wait much longer.
They can and will, just hope we hear something this year

I am thinking Sony Bend, SSM and Crash. I do not think Sucker Punch is quite ready. It would be awesome if they were. A spring 2017 release for their new game would be exactly three years since their last title.

Im expecting a tease at e3 or a trailer at psx. Suckerpunch moves alil fast.

Bend, idk be hearing about theirs for awhile so idk when to expect it.

Crash I'll avatar bet it's definitely at e3

Re-post from the mediacreate thread
http://blog.hokanko-alt.com/archives/48083324.html

A certain company who has not publicly revealed their name on the recruitment page is recruiting for a 3D character modeler for the development of a PS4 RPG that blends Sci-Fi with the Wild West.

The specified company is located in Tokyo city, Koto district, Kiba, which just so happens to be where Media Vision is located. Brand new Wild Arms game coming?

SCEJ publishing a new Wild Arms?

I don't think you remember but they spent years making their Space Sci-Fi IP that they had cancel while firing nearly half the studio along with the lead director resigning. They had to restructure and move their entire studio premises along with re-hiring all the talent needed to even begin production. After all that you have to give them another couple years until 2018 to announce their AAA PS4 GOW project.

I hope this is a joke. God Of War is a linear character action game. Not Fallout, GTA or The Witcher 3.

yep not to mention time needed for prototyping and engine building.

On the whole new God of War thing, I also wouldn't read into that too deeply. Cory is an honest person, but really, it's about as honest as CDPR saying that "not too long from Cyberpunk reveal now" when it literally means "please wait another 15 months till E3 2017"

Different people have different sense of timing.

What part of Azure Revolution looks like Sci-fi crossed with the Wild West?

Rarely does a recruitment ad needs to hide the studio/game if it's already revealed as well.

In an earlier tweet, Cory replied to a dude asking why he hadn't been posting much, and he replied and said that he's 'busy on the stage and in the studio'.

Stage? Rehearsing for a reveal of sorts? Mayhaps.

Probably mo-cap stage. Motion capture studio for Sony isn't located in the Santa Monica, it's at San Diego.

Well Sony had 3 notable first party reveals last e3 with The Last Guardian, Horizon and Dreams. I could see them matching last years with SSM, Bend and possibly a Crash reveal. As badly as I want to see Sucker Punches new game, there is no way I am getting my hopes up for that. At the rate Sony has been revealing games, I could see that being an e3 2017 reveal.

On a side note, what is all of the evidence of a crash return? I know about the Shawn laden shirt and the sign in the Playsation commercial, but has there been anything else? People seem to be dead set on it happening.

I thought their new studio had a motion capture studio as well. I remember reading something along those lines.

Hmm, you're right, reports did mention that.

Then I dunno, lol. While E3 preparations do have to start early, I would imagine for a developer to announce their new game, most of the work is actually in the studio and not on-stage, because the studio gotta crunch for that trailer/demo/gameplay reveal.

Possibly a reveal before E3? Some sort of press event, like they did with Ascension?

Shawn's tease at PSX 2015 was the epicentre of something happening. It's hard to stay frosty at the first genuine promise in a long time (it's been eight long years since the last Crash game). I'm normally on the negative train with this sort of thing, but all signs are pointing at something and I'm too damn excited, this time around.

After all, we all remember Hashimoto's infamous troll at PSX 2014 with the FF7 remake, right?

Also, now I don't know if this should be taken seriously but Shawn Layden guest starred
in a PlayStation Blogcast where he ALLUDED Crash Bandicoot at 1:16:30. Check it out:

Scroll down to the halfway portion of the news article, Gematsu has summarised all the hints of a return of Crash.

Well shit. Im convinced after seeing all this. Aside from the blatant teasing from Sony, it's the small leaks from other companies that are most intriguing to me. Where there's smoke...

I dunno about that trio. First off, we don't even know if Crash is a Sony first party title in the first place, since as far as we're aware, Activision still owns the IP. And second, I'm not sure Bend's game will be considered a major announcement like the three you just mentioned, as based on the studio's size and history, it feels like it'd be closer in scale to Rigs than Horizon.

If they're going for another three major announcements then I could see something along the lines of God of War 4, Bloodborne 2 and Level 5's JRPG. As much as I want From Software to take a break, they've been pumping out Souls-likes on a yearly basis for the last few years, so I could easily see Bloodborne 2 being announced this early. And for the JRPG, I figure if Sony are putting as many resources behind it as Verendus has teased then it seems like more of an E3 announcement than a TGS one.
