My friend told me about the teacher's backstory. Holy shit. I can't believe the left that madness out of the anime. I'm definitely going to go read that part in the manga because it's so important. But after the last episode next week in case they for some reason show it then. I urge everyone else to too; it is quite the fucked up story.

I don't know what it was about this episode, but it just changed my opinion of the series to a shit tier series, I literally loved it before this episode but something just suddenly made it turn to shit for me.

Even 4chan is salty at this episode.

Hah take that you shipping scumbags.

Real talk though this episode felt super rushed, gonna start reading the manga because I can feel the stuff being skipped.

Oh wow. My friend just told me that (Scene the anime changed from the manga in this latest episode)
instead of the teacher stopping the photographers, it was supposed to be Airi, and they were supposed to have a moment afterward. RIP Airi ship.
This along with not showing the teacher's backstory actually make me a little sad the way the show turned out.

Ok, now I'm kinda pissed about thar because they are never going to address that relationship then..

how is this possible.

Just never paid attention to it before, lol.

That sounds way better

Going to read the manga after it's over

The manga has a number of scenes which would have fit really nicely into the anime if they didn't arrange it the way they did. After Satoru and Kenya made friends with Aya, before the Ice Hockey stuff, in the manga Kayo actually came back and there was a really nice union scene, followed by Kayo integrating back into the group along with Aya. They also cut a chunk of the last long discussion Satoru had with Kenya when they were kids, where Kenya talks about his father being a lawyer and how he wants to be a lawyer when he grows up as well. It's more important in the manga than in the anime because there's a lot that Kenya explained about his views on justice and finding the truth, which relates to what he did in the years while Satoru was in a coma. That might not really come to play in the anime since they're wrapping it up quickly instead. In the manga after Satoru wakes up, after his initial rehab, there's a long period where he just works with Kenya piecing things back together to solve the case.

Also, the manga dedicated an entire chapter showing the detailed backstory of Yashiro and how he became the killer he is. It's a really fucked up family thing spanning decades.

I did not know the BokuMachi mangaka was also the guy behind Cradle of Monsters. Fucking 4Head.

Anyway I kind of liked this episode, even if not all of it worked. I don't have any hope for this wrapping up nicely in 22 minutes though.

I knew they wouldn't be able to pull off all those remaining chapters in just 40 minutes, so they had to change things in some "big" ways. Can't wait what happens next week.

Maybe they should have went the OVA route

So why is he unable to go back in time any more? Also how did he know when he went back in time the previous time that it'd be his last? Is this explained?

It is alluded to in the manga, yes. In the anime they haven't really spent much time on Satoru's introspection. In the manga he does think about it, wonder, and draw his own conclusions on why. Whether that's too tacky or not is another matter...

So what I'm getting out of this is the anime is changing a lot of things up in order to end the series in 12 episodes

That's unfortunate, but it does mean I now have an excuse to read the manga.

Also lmao at all the cuckposting on 4chan, like Kayo and Satoru were ever going to be a thing
:^)

I never really thought Satoru liked Kayo in the first place. He just kinda started dating her as an excuse to stop her from getting murdered.

Anyway, it's a bit confusing thinking about which "Satoru" this is. For most of the episode I thought this was legitimately the original 1988 Satoru reawakening or something as a result of the coma, and that these last two episodes would be about trying to somehow recover the 2006 Satoru. If 2006 Satoru has indeed returned as of the end of episode 11, then he'll have memories of things between 1988 and 2003 that didn't occur. What's going on here?

Lastly, judging by a lone kid being a a car with a basketball on the gas pedal, when Satoru got rescued in 1988 wouldn't the police put two-and-two together and at least surmise that someone tried to murder this kid?

I'm honestly really sick and tired of the 4Chan "Cucking" or "NTR" nonsense. I mean, sure I would have liked it if the two characters ended up together in the future, but realistically taking everything into account, there was no way it was going to happen.

Just taking it at face value, Sataru was suppose to be in a coma that everybody said was impossible to wake up from, no one, let alone a kid would have decided to spend their entire lives waiting on a less than 1% chance that he would be able to wake up and they would be able to get together.

It really is a shame, because I actually really liked the original ending arc in the Manga, so seeing that everything is being completely changed now is disappointing. This series should have been longer. Maybe 24-26 episodes wouldn't have worked, but they could have almost definitely done 20 episodes while including everything faithfully. And by doing so they would have been able to make the 2006 stuff as enticing as the 1988 stuff. Hell, even if they only did 13 episodes instead of the current 12 they would have been able to fit in the original ending, abet at a quick pace.
