Except if Sony decides to push PS5 back to 2022 or later.

Many people who bought PS4 at its first years will now definitely hesitate to do so with the PS5.

Have always been a console guy so I need my fix of Naughty dog, PD, SP, etc games. I'm in the pessimistic camp about this move but will see how it plans out.

To play games for however many months? Then whenever this new model releases you will most likely be able to trade in your PS4 and pay a small amount for better resolution/graphics and higher frame-rates, if you choose.

They will make games for consoles and port them to PC where they will run even better. There is no more custom console hardware, consoles are just low/midrange gaming PCs. If you start with more powerful consoles you automatically get better looking PC games.

They could just take out the APU inside current PS4 mobo, and put advanced 14nm Polaris variant in. If they feel generous, they could up again populate backside of mobo with 8 more chips, raising it to 16gb [but I doubt that].

Same here, or hasn't even been a year and I would have happily waited one more year or so for a new model with better resolution or framerate.

No, but it won't play them as well and i already put down the money for the "old" model because there was no reason to think something for powerful would be coming out until the next Gen.

Hope it's real. I mean they're literal PC's this generation. At some point the cost of the raw materials and manufacturing capacity has to plateau at a point where is becomes inefficient to continue producing outdated hardware. Much in the same way new GPU's and CPU's come out at the same price as slower outgoing models, they don't really continue producing the 2-3 generation old models and sell them 50% cheaper. They just clear existing inventory and move on to the next thing. I expect the OG vanilla PS4 and Xbone will be phased out if this is the direction they're indeed going.

Lets talk theoretically here with an exclusive like Bloodborne. What improvements in general could we notice and could a first party game see versus a third-party differ in performance?

Why?

Early adopters adopt things early. They'll have had a ps4 for a few years by the time this comes out. Some will happily wait for the next one, but others will jump in and get this one. Nintendo seem to get away with tweaks to their handheld hardware constantly and people eat it up
 
This is a great plan.

Indies in 4k and you can resell GTA V 4k remaster, The Last Us 4k remaster etc all over again.

No need anymore to create any new games...

I don't think so. New phones and tablets come out every year with enhanced hardware. Multiple CPU's and graphics cards are released every year.

People have the choice to upgrade and I think that's a great thing.

The caveat is that MS and Sony have to give us guarantees to invest in their hardware. The people saying that they would have waited longer are just lying to themselves. Are you really going to wait to play the next Uncharted? Some will. Some won't.

But there has to be a guarantee that your console isn't going to be obsolete in 2 years. I think 5 years is a good number.
