NX Controller Rumor [Up5: Original was fake, and thus this is too]

I fucking love this thread so much.

Please detective gaf, keep digging.

Also, what did shockingalberto have to say about the previous controller picture?

Think it could have adaptable tactus style buttons like this?

tactusgif.gif

That looks cool, but also weirdly creepy? Also, it looks very expensive.

I went off to mull this over and yeah still not feeling it.

Maybe this is the portable NX console. But a curved screen with no buttons or shoulders won't garner much support from the third party, something ninty desperately needs for NX.

Oh well. I look forward to Mario on PS5.

Not sure how acceptable it would be on a console controller ala the Wii U where you are going to presumably spend a lot of your time looking up and away from the pad. One of the advantages of physical buttons from this regard is that you gain familiarity with where the buttons are and can "feel" for where they are without having to actually press them. This seems like it would be clumsy on a touch screen even with haptics.

I feel like there are theoretically ways for haptics to allow you to feel where a digital button is. Whether these are going to be included, or even possible with existing technology, I have no idea. But I'm sure Nintendo has tested any control method they plan on using extensively, and I doubt this is something they'd over look

here's my MS Paint take on things..

Whole thing is a giant touch screen, game image is confined to a PS Vita style screen in the middle, the rest of the area around either thumb stick are where the virtual buttons appear.

This allows for customiseable button layouts, either by the user or maybe dictated by the developer, and who knows what other stuff they can do in the non game screen areas.

Plus come on guys, this is a dev kit (supposedly) ergonomics don't really come in to it just yet, if Nintendo announce it and it looks exactly like this, then we can be worried lol

I thought that was the whole idea with the NX.

Isn't it?
No, Iwata specifically ruled out a single-device hybrid. At most, there will be a separate handheld that can play the same games as the console (& possibly double as an NX Console controller if you wanted to). This controller isn't the NX Handheld itself, but rather a controller for the NX Console.

I do not enjoy playing games on my phone with the fake buttons so unless something crazy happens I cannot imagine I would enjoy using this.

So, uh, where are the buttons?

The aiming was so good. The waggle, meh.
Exactly. The Wii Remote performs certain tasks extremely well. Waggle was a side effect of devs wanting to shoehorn motion into games that didn't need it. Wii Sports was transcendent. The Wii breathed new life into light gun games. There is nothing wrong with specialized controllers, but it should have never been the only option out of the box.

It is I think. The top right most prominent branch sticks out in exactly the same way on both images.

The pics are from opposite sides of the tree. The branches on the right side of the street view photo do not match up at all. All of the branches are not an exact match given the difference in perspective.

Yeah, but you're still pressing "fake" screen buttons, which even with haptic, don't compare to actual physical buttons.

If the heptic feedback works perfectly im there.

Also this thread reminds me to the wii controller one. With the doom posts and all.
If this is a success in the end, I wouldnt be surprised.

(with this near confirmation, allow me to go off the handle and be reactionary)

Eff. What the hell, they're really going through with this haptic button shit?! Even Nintendo can't pull this off, you have to keep your eyes on the controller to make sure you're even hitting the button. Your fingers have no feedback to keep them guided on the button, it slips 1/4" and you're suddenly not hitting a button but you have no idea. People are excited for this? Why because it'll vibrate when you hit a button? That's going to be so damn annoying after about 3 minutes.

I just can't make sense of this.

I'm thinking smaller non-intrusive buttons for Handheld Mode, since you don't look away... and larger easier to hit buttons for TV Mode.

More gimmicks. What if you want to play a fighting game or traditional games?

Nintendo just doesn't get it if this is true. It looks like they'll be competing with smart phone games based on the controller and guess what? Everyone already has a smart phone.

A powerful system with a good controller like the pro controller, first party Nintendo games and 3rd party support. Is it really that hard? Apparently it is.

Why do people want a third identical fucking box and controller? So they can continue not playing or buying ports of the same games that are on the other 2 systems? How does that make business sense?

Go for something different and pray it resonates. Just ask you think this will kill nintendo, You are all are literally asking Nintendo to die by telling them to play by the same rules as everyone else.

If thats the controller it will be novelty or something. You cant play many games with haptic feedback buttons they look cool but you not gonna be playing a fighting game or platinum game with those buttons. Repeatedly pressing them in quick succession will destroy those buttons.

No physical buttons will prevent me from buying this if it happens. I think the Wii u gamepad is damn near perfect because it has buttons and a great second screen. Games with inventory management and a large map just are way better with them.

I don't play cell phone games because of how much I hate touch screen controls, so nothing turns me off more than total touch screen controls. I hate them on the DS/3DS/Vita, and I thought at this point that most developers realized that people hated the forced in gimmicks that accompany them.

Maybe it'll have some insane haptic feedback. The reason I really hate touchscreens is because they hardly give any feedback and you have to constantly look down at them. There could be some technology here we are missing.

This is my bargaining phase, by the way.

For movement it isnt so bad if the game is designed well. But for button use? ....

They were never going to buy Nintendo console anyway. Some of these guys look for any excuse they can.

Ah but some of us could have been on the fence. And this pushes us to the dont but side. Some of us blindly buy every Nintendo home console that launched...even if we dont really favor Nintendo anymore. Like me.

This would seriously be the first time I skipped a Nintendo home console. In forever. Zelda wouldnt even make me buy it if this is gonna be the controller.

See above.

you need to flip the reflection once more because of the direction of both images

But the image itself is a reflection, so flip it once to see the correct view of the tree from inside the building, flip it again to try to see how it may look like from the other side of the street.

If true then I'm 100% in. I wonder what the controller is plugged into. Weirdly enough, the controller looks like a stripped down Vita! Hopefully the lack of face buttons means they actually understand where their market went.

The NX is looking and sounding like Nintendo's best effort in a long time. Very excited to see it in action!
