Dark Souls III [Import OT] Kindle the fire, one last time

I think I'm going to do it. I have a whole week and a half off right now but when the worldwide release comes I'll be busy as shit.

There's always time for item descriptions later.

Jesus, he hasn't even played the game yet. I'm out of this thread. The level of stupid is getting too high for me.

I feel the same way. People shit posting and they aren't even playing the game... give me a break. At least in the spoiler thread people are genuinely excited about the game.

Trust me, I was just as exited as the rest of you guys. But everything from this release stagnation to this abnormally low lumber of bosses to
Magus and Congregation 2.0? Lol.
to how fast this game was made after Bloodborne while retaining Miyazaki have made this whole situation seem quite shady.

Well Dark Souls stands as my favorite souls (and IMO the best), but hey guess I am a console fanboy.

Haven't been watching streams, and am pretty much on a blackout, but up until this game (which I have mostly no clue about aside it looking like it reused or shared too many assets with Bloodborne), Dark Souls was the best of the series. Although it only barely edges out Demon's for me.

Clearly a lot of others here who actually own the game are of a very opposite opinion.

To be fair, this is 100% irrelevant. More posters than not were gushing hard when Dark Souls 2 had just been released, claiming it was just as good (some actually said better) than Dark Souls, and pretty much ignoring everything off about it until months later. That new Miyazaki scent is like a drug for some.

Oh please, the guy called it "B Team dreck. . ." as if (a) Dark Souls 2 was the worst thing, (2) you can judge the game by watching someone fuddle through a foreign release and (purple) Dark Souls 1 is this sacred calf whose heights can never be reached again.

I think due to that a lot of people have been more cautious and critical with this game and its flaws. I.e reused assets and other aspects. (Not that reused assets are all that big of a deal) but there in my opinion doesn't seem as much to be upset about here
:lol no idea there has been a lot negative post from viewers. I am enjoying the game so far.
There hasn't really.

I can't see flipping out about the same items being in this game, while blithely ignoring how much work has gone into making the world it's own.

I haven't been reading the thread to avoid spoilers so maybe this has been said already but the RAW upgrade path actually seems decent! I'm not leveling up until I have to and my Raw Astora straight sword +3 has just gotten me passed the first Lord of Cinder boss. (no summoning) Now I want to try a new weapon though...

OK, I'm getting old. People are talking about how easy the first part of the game is and here I am on the roof and the
black, twisty screeching thing with red eyes
is eating me for lunch. Damn.

Is there an English translated screenshot of the stats when you are looking at a weapon? I have them for every other stat screen but not weapons. Driving me crazy not seeing what they each individually do.

EDIT: Loving the game so far. To me, it feels like Demon's Souls and Bloodborne had a baby and that baby was abandoned at 10 years old and had to live on the streets for 20 years before winning the lottery and now it just runs around and beats the tar out of things laughing and crying at the same time.

Dark Souls 1 is this sacred calf whose heights can never be reached again.

So far it hasn't been. Although it could be argued that the game would have been better with a few of the later areas cut from it. Not simply because of execution, but length. Bloodborne had the potential to top it, but fell really short.

I don't know exactly how much development time was spent on Dark Souls coming off of Demon's, but the actual release date was two and a half times as long as Bloodborne and Dark Souls 3. Even if they have simply gotten so good at the formula by now that it cut down development time, it still seems particularly short. Part of that could have just been publisher issues, but they could have actually been working on it the entire time as well.

I figured out why I was lost and it was the biggest wth kinda Zelda moment I have ever had. I'll say this, DaS3 is like the Terry Pratchett of Dark Souls. I am absolutely loving the environments and enemies.

I'm..not sure of the argument you're trying to make here. But I assume you mean that you mean reused assets aren't something to be upset over because of how much work has gone into making it a separate entity over copy pasting? And in which case I'd agree

I remember it differently; thanks to the lighting engine fiasco, there were people ready to write it off from before day one. ENB def said he liked it more, but I didn't see much agreement with that after release until after the DLC was out; there's def a contingent of folks who like 2 more than 1. And heck, I'm still mostly fond of Dark 2 even if I also nitpick it to death.

I am still very early on in Dark 3, but so far it feels vastly more like a next gen Demon's Souls (mainly thanks to the hub/stage layout and the Bolateria-ness of the first areas) than a Dark Souls 2 to me, and so far the level design is miles ahead.

I need a doll to enter the snow area, can anyone tell me where I can find it?
Spoilers bruh...come on
Need some help, where do I go after the
Giant Tree
boss?
There should be
a elevator that lead down near the gargoyle helemt guy. I think it can lead up or down. At the bottom there will be a speical knight that drops a frost sword or something. Follow the path after him.

Edit: so killed 5 bosses,
the last boss I killed was deacons of the deep. Which lead to a dead end. Any ideas?

The graphical downgrade complaints were a completely different issue altogether, and rarely mentioned in the OT after release, aside from talking about what could have been with the already great game. The first week was unambiguously positive from the majority.

Having a lot of trouble getting a clear picture when I use the photo translate app, then again my tablet is a cheap piece of shit..

2 bosses down, 2 attempts each (2nd would have been 1 but went in with 0 estus and 1/3 HP..got him to 50%), hardest thing so far has been the
Katana dude
near the start.

I THINK I've found an estus flask shard...but not really sure.

lol thanks, I completely missed a pathXD

the Souls games in general (Bloodborne included) have always been top heavy, meaning the early bosses were always the most difficult ones...I want to see Dark Souls 3 maintain its difficulty all the way through

I'm sure this gets asked a lot but I've been on an accidental black out. How's the world connectedness so far?

I've only beaten four bosses thus far, but it seems to be
a mix of Demon's Souls (with a main hub area from which you warp to other areas) and Dark Souls (where you can get to area from any other area, as long as your starting or end point is not the main hub, which is disconnected from the rest of the world).

That last part may change later in the game, I think.

5 bosses in and to me, each area feels like a multilayer place with shortcuts. Each area feels separate but kinda funnel you to the next area so far. I can walk from the 3rd area to this current area I am at. But I don't know if I can walk back to the 3rd area.

Is there anyway to get the game in English after you buy it from the Japanese PSN store, my impression is that when you go over to your normal account after buying with your JP one the games text stays in Japanese.

This isn't true at all. Phalanx from Demon's was ridiculously easy compared to some of the later bosses, and the bosses in Dark Souls were cake until Capra (who wasn't technically "hard", you simply didn't have enough time to figure out what the fuck was going on during the first few attempts). This is somewhat true with Bloodborne, but it was more of a case of your current stats and the fact that low level weapon upgrades sucked rather than their actual difficulty. I'm not sure many would agree that the first two bosses in Bloodborne were more difficult than Rom. Or at least nowhere near as tedious anyway.

For those playing it early on Xbox one, how's the performance?,

I was going to get it on PC for the 60fps, should I wait for PC release?, is Xbox one 1080p?

Yeah, it stays Japanese on PS4. Only the people on XB1 can trick the system into getting the english version.

most of the hard bosses were in the 1st half of Dark Souls (not counting the DLC)...meaning before Anor Londo...only Four Kings was difficult after Anor Londo...Bloodborne was the same way...Dark Souls 2 was pretty easy throughout until the DLC

Ah, stuck for an hour in the first area before I start translating menus with the phone app. "Installation not complete".

LOL.

I guess I'll move on tomorrow.

"Oh cool, my first ring..App isn't working properly so I'll just equip it and maybe see what it does."
*Died 10min later*
"Ohhhh...It was the ring of soul protection..."

You can lead that guy back down to the entrance of where you just came out of. Hw won't go in door more than a couple inches so you can cheese him there. No shame. That guy messed me up bigtime.

Wait for the PC unless you need your Dark Souls fix. I can't believe you even asked the question unless your graphics card is sub par.

I've been enjoying the hell out of myself with the XB1 version.

Playing the Xbox English version and after a couple hours I'm loving it. Started as a pyromancer for no particular reason but flame in left hand and axe in right is great fun. (No idea how to do a pyro build so any tips appreciated). Game definitely feels like a love child of Dark Souls and Bloodborne in a good way (and Bloodborne is my least favorite "souls" game by a wide margin). Can't wait to really dive in tomorrow.

Where do I go after the fire link shrine?

Do I have to teleport somewhere because I came my game isn't fully installed :/

Yeah I think you need to teleport, I ran around firelink looking for an exit that wasn't locked for like 30mins before I realized I had to warp somewhere else.
