Lost Soul Aside |OT| Souls-free Action

Push Square reported that there is day 1 patch which might delay reviews:

Article:
Lost Soul Aside, the PS5 (previously PS4) action game that's been in development for what feels like a lifetime, will receive what sounds like a significant day one patch.

As revealed on social media by the title's official accounts, the update, which will be available to download on the 29th August, features "comprehensive performance optimisations and stability improvements".

In other words, we're fully expecting Lost Soul Aside to be a bit of a mess without this patch. In turn, that probably means a distinct lack of reviews on the game's release; publishers will usually hold back review code if their game has clear technical issues.

The day one update also covers "visually enhanced effects", "overall audio refinements", and "final polishing and gameplay upgrades".

Naturally, developer UltiZero "strongly recommends" downloading and installing this patch before playing.

Again, it's no secret that Lost Soul Aside has endured a very rocky development cycle — but it's still a real shame that the team wasn't able to smooth everything out ahead of going gold. Fingers crossed that this important update is the only one that the game needs to run properly.

What do you make of this? What are your thoughts on big day one updates? Hit that download button in the comments section below.

Well, that means the retail version is basically useless.
Thanks a lot i guess.

Trust actual players, not reviewers.

So did Sony really
Give this guy an early code? At this point I think they need some positive marketing after what's come out from the discs so far.. but without the day 1 patch it's a bit moot, however he says he on pro performance and looks smooth but fairly unimpressive as fr as graphics quality so far..

Which means they are based on the build that was supposed to release last spring. We'll know tomorrow.

I am actually watching some footage that just released a couple of hours ago and the game looks a bit generic. The voice acting is something else, I have a feeling this game wont do very well. I hope I am wrong though

A single sentence that ensures that this game isn't for me. Hope y'all enjoy it though.

I see nothing FFXVI. You do actual damage and you can customize your weapon with buff items, actually visually the way you want. It seems this game runs circles around FFXVI in terms of combat, RPG mechanics and exploration which is actually a bit embarrassing.

Downloading demo of jap store… wow been years since I last properly logged into my jap account, that took longer than the demo will to download
So this will probably decide if I pull the trigger before midnight for the preorder bonus

Not having reviews and the game releasing in a few hours is a very bad sign. We all know it and have seen it again and again with videogame releases, something is not right if we dont have reviews already

Is the review embargo ending right at release? That's shitty

I realized I have a JP account. I played the demo for about an hour.

Its in many things a PS4 game. Its not a looker, but performance mode is at least smooth. Quality mode is dogshit, with severe input lag on everything. Avoid.

The combat is good! You can combo, dash, launch, air combo and enders, projectiles.. enemies are eventually open for a finisher. Switching weapons goes on the fly too, there is a straight sword and heavy type sword. The boss has a health bar too many I think. After depleting 3 bars I was kind of ready to move on. But he has 4, and the next boss has 4 too. They are a bit boring to be honest, first you're mashing down their guard meter, and then their health bar. With every bar depleted they change their movesets. I died at the second boss because I didn't restock. Evading is easy, but I think the idea is to try not to spam it to manage your meter, you can do 5 in a row.

But don't think this has anything on DMC. It doesn't. It plays like NieR Automata. Its more floaty, less weighty, more spammy and easier than DMC.

Level design is linear, with rail sections in between etc.

Lost Soul Aside really is a mid tier game in everything. I like it, but it screams 40 bucks max.

I like it, but I suspect 70 MC at best.

Normally I would agree and there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of this game's state. However, I personally do not take the lack of review codes as bad sign in and of itself simply because it's a Chinese game. We've seen the same thing with several Chinese releases that indicate they simply do not have the pre-established processes and pipelines to be delivering review codes in advance. Let alone the sense of urgency to do so for whatever reason. They're very new to the AAA space so while we expect certain things from devs/publishers of AA-AAA releases in the contemporary game space, they simply haven't been a part of that until just now.

Now that being said, I would not be surprised if the game is mediocre at best. If it gets even decent reviews, I'll probably pick it up.

Shoulda been $50.

Yeah I just put in 30 mins on the demo… it's quite cool (performance pro) shame it doesn't really have any DualShock rumble or haptics much that I could feel and don't think I missed anything in the menus.. the combat isn't a patch on FFXVI from initial impressions but didn't seem to be a tutorial and went through the adventure part of the demo and didn't really get what I was supposed to do .. died a load in a dimension. Thing as hadn't worked out the combat, so left that and carried on in the adventure world.. seems pretty nifty to zoom around.. watching a playthrough for the start from YouTube to see if maybe I'd get into it better if played the actual game…

Still tempted, and will check, but the lack of DualShock ps5 rumble/haltics/vibration felt very flat after playing a load of Stella blade recently

Hmm, I just finished the demo on my Pro. The graphics aren't very good - looks like a mid-tier last gen UE4 game but with lots of particle, weapon and combat effects. The combat feels pretty good and it's very flashy. Everything else though is low budget and mediocre, though there was a song that sounded nice.

It's hard to say how good the full game will be. It'll depend a lot on how combat progresses and evolves throughout the game. I think it's safe to say that the story, characters and writing will be rubbish. Level design is simple and boring in the demo but maybe it's better in other areas of the full game.

Between Tides of Annihilation and this game, this game always looked less appealing to me. I'll try the demo though.
Same feeling, Tides of Annihilation has amazing potential.

Having said that, it was revealed just recently. LSA has almost like 10 years since Yang Bing showed his skills and got some support from Sony.

If you told me Platinum developed this I would've believed it. It has that same low budget feel and level design with fast gameplay and evasion mechanics.

Its 69 in Europe, which is far too much. I'll go for Shinobi and will likely pick up LSA once its dropped.

There is a tutorial, its the battle simulation.

It explains some things you might've not realized like being able to perfect block attacks with blue aura. Or the R2 combo ender when Kaser flashes. There are also 3 Arena powers with L2 + face buttons.

One thing I don't like about the combat are the sound effects from hits. They are lame.
