Dark Souls III [Import OT] Kindle the fire, one last time

Is it normal to not be able to light the bonfire that appears when you defeat
Watchers of Faron?

can someone point me in the direction of the
cathedral of the deep
?

I thought that area should come first,
arrived at the snowy town and there's a fog gate I can't pass

the swamp with the 3
braziers
is the most evil shit ever devised by any game. it took me hours to figure out and successfully navigate, dying over and over to all manner of bullshit. I've literally never been so aggravated by a game. I wanted to snap the controller in two.

the first time through blighttown as a newb feels like oral sex compared to this swamp. it's seriously evil.

now I'm at a
giant skeleton head
boss and I can't get him and I can't seem to summon white phantoms to help either. :(

NPC question/spoiler

has anyone seen patches yet? the wiki says he appears at the top of the firelink shrine tower after you've collected the firekeeper soul but he's definitely not there for me

Go down the path you came from after going all to way up in the tower.

anecdotally in the brief time I played it on XB1 I thought it "felt" better somehow... again, it could easily be my imagination, but I am one of the relatively few people who has it on both consoles and that was honestly how I felt after playing a short time on each

PS4 version feels heavily jerky/stilted similar to Bloodborne but often worse (IMO). XB1 didn't feel quite as bad to me, again, based on the early areas.

this post excites my penis

can't wait to get rekt

looks like I messed up erina's questline
by having her teach dark stuff, she disappeared after I bought everything and I found her body and a pissed eygon near the gundir bonfire , sucks because I really wanted his armor and I imagine you get it from completing that questline

Anyone kind enough to upload a video showing all the options for character creation? It's the only thing that i don't mind being spoiled.
Yeah,i love character creators.

my miracle woman asks for a divine tome. any idea at all where to get this? plleaasee? I need more miracles

also where/how do I turn in sunlight medals?

I'd never been as angry at a video game, I'm sure that's going to be fun for you

Caved and did the region trick on Xbox One. Yup, definitely a Souls game. Dat menu theme!

Doesn't look quite as good as Bloodborne but it's still gorgeous. The art direction is amazing. I can tell this game is going to consume my life for the next couple of months.

Damn son, how easily one could have avoided 4 hours of frustration if you could have only read one weapons item description. People are gonna be so mad they did it the hard way.

I'm actually glad I won't be getting this until April, it seems like there's a lotta technical stuff they need to fix. That aside, how are people finding the game so far?

So what are people impressions on the game so far, and how is it compared to the other games?

I am ~5 hours in. I started deprived, am playing offline and have not power leveled or grinded for materials or anything like that, which I think colors my experience significantly because I see other folks saying it's easy; I've platinum'ed or 1000/1000'ed every SoulsBorne game and this is giving me a very good challenge. I've died about 30 times so far. (I'm keeping track by saving video of each death. Wish I had a mic to record my laughter when I fail...)

So far the level design feels the most like Demon's Souls except writ large at the scale of Bloodborne's Forbidden Woods or larger. Mechanically it feels most like Dark Souls 1 but with a lot of the better ideas from 2 (durability restores at bonfires, three items per hand, the way encumberance works, being able to run away while locked on…)

The confidence is back. Dark Souls 2 has all sorts of ideas built in that get undermined by the inclusion of items that negate them (anticurse headgear, cheap to repair sacrifice rings, and most of all high density of bonfires.) So far, this feels super sure of itself and willing to set up what seem like impossible challenges right out of the gate, allowing the player to figure out how they actually aren't quite as brutal as they initially seem. There may be mechanics like the aforementioned that get similarly undermined but I'm not far enough in to know if that carries over.

There's some mechanical overlap with Bloodborne and it's clearly the same graphics engine but I haven't noticed any real asset re-use; a couple things where the same idea exists in both games but implemented differently... One creature in particular feels like a riff on a similar idea but it also has its roots in a Dark Souls 2 enemy.

The scale of the third boss fight took my breath away. It's in one of the trailers so I'd heard a description of it before but seeing it in action was awesome. On my second try, I got it down to a single hit left with no flasks left and it killed me... It's still kicking my ass now.

I haven't dug into the item wiki yet to figure out what some stuff does and I'm hella sketchy on where the story is going (though it's easy enough for me to follow the voice acting.)

So I have no idea how it's all going to play out nor how it'll sit with me long term but at first impression I am very pleased.

Have people gotten hold of a pike yet? Where can I find it?

It was an enemy drop for me. Spoilers for the area after the third boss:
One of those rake holding corpses from the swamp area dropped it, I think. Either them or the tree trunk holding ones.

So what are people impressions on the game so far, and how is it compared to the other games?

I've played all the Soulsborne games and this is so far my favorite. Online seems accessible, good build diversity from the get go, among other things. It's possible that Bloodborne will beat it, though. It depends on how well it holds up.

For the Japanese version, is there a way to map run / activate to the american scheme of circle / x, or am i stuck with this scheme?

If you are on the PS4, under the Accessibility options of the OS there is a button remap option. In-game prompts will remain the same, however. Also, its a system-wide remap.

Is anyone playing a Faith build? All I'm seeing on Twitch are the same old Knight turtlers. I want to see some lightning spears! :(

I am, but I've yet to find any decent spells. I still just use heal. I don't know how to turn in sunlight medals and I don't know how to get the divine tome for the miracle vendor and I keep asking and no one can tell me

I'm rolling a Dex/Faith build on my main character. The problem is, offensive miracles are
hard to come by, at least at the start. I haven't found any
. The first miracle vendor
is accessible after the second boss fight and only sells healing miracles.

As for the Lightning miracles (covenant spoilers),
I at least found the Sunbros. Hopefully they can provide the zzzzap.

Me neither, I can't find where to offer them. As for the divine tome, there are at least two. Here is a YT video of the first one(?)'s location (the last item the player picks up): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DiQ2pWOT4dw

You can purchase the tome from Yuria of Londor.

Enjoying it immensely. It's kicking my ass big time. It's very similar to bloodborne but honestly I like this game more. Runs pretty well with occasional hiccups here and there. Don't know if I like it more than demons souls or dark souls 1, but I definitely like it more than bloodborne and dark souls 2.

because resolution and frame rate aren't huge? FailFish

As of right now Digital Foundry hasn't given a metric on frame rate differences if any. So if you know of somewhere else that has legit frame rate data comparing Xbox and PS4 for DS3, then by all means share it.

And 900p to 1080p is a difference, but you'd have to be a koolaid drinking console warrior to call it "huge".

Listen to Digital Foundry in their article on DS3 on XOne:
Digital Foundry said:
The upscale from 900p doesn't dampen the experience to any tangible degree

Does that sound "huge"?

No. No it does not.

thank you

ALSO can anyone please tell me what the $20,000 key does? the one from the npc in firelink? I bought it thinking it might be to the katana dude's door but it wasn't!

Go to the other side...you can drop off near the top of firelink.

No problem, glad to help fellow unkindled. As for the key:
it apparently opens the door at the top of Firelink Shrine. From the entrance, take the right stairs and then exit from the right and keep going up the stairs
. There, you will apparently find
the crow which will trade shiny things.
. I can't confirm as I have not bought the key.
