Slain - A homage to gory hack-&-slash games of the 80's & 90's (Out now on PS4)

Steam now says "coming soon" instead of march 24th

It's available now, for me.

EDIT: Listed in the store as 12.99€, but as 11,69€ when added to the cart. I assume that the store simply haven't finished updating the CDN .. and now it's listed as on sale in the store. That was quick.

Great. Just great. So glad I pre-ordered. Can I cancel it now if the dev is reading this? Sorry, you don't get to delay, delay, delay and then delay it again on Steam.

That awkward moment when your sodium levels reach critical at the same second the game is officially available on Steam.

I'm looking forward to impressions of the Steam version - hope it doesn't have the issues the GoG one did.

That awkward moment when I'm on the Humble website, I see that I purchased the fucking game, and there's still no fucking key or option to download the fucking game that I fucking pre-ordered. Then you hear reports of it bugging out when the dev delayed the release by almost two months to hammer out issues.

What a fucking disaster.

This is very metal. Just like Slain.

That awkward moment when you couldn't wait 5 minutes for them to upload the keys before going and ranting on the internet. :p

I still want a refund. I don't like the reports that it's buggy and I don't like being dicked around and waiting for a key to become available when I pre-ordered months in advance.

Requested GOG refund.

Bought steam version. Playing now will report back

Update: Some sounds are active now, but stuff like traps make no noise. Its weird. Also, there is a quit option in the menu this time.

ModBot be bugging and isn't replying with my raffle either, lol, no one wants to be Slain today. :(

I installed via Steam just fine and the combat was nice and responsive, but the interface was slightly sticky to say the least. You'll see.

ModBot broke when they enabled HTTPS, and it might not be working yet.

Its all still fucked. Even the steam release.

Hell, the splash screen is missing the splash graphic ROFL. Fucking hell man.

Tips: To duck you press down. Only blocks projectiles.

To decapitate, you press X twice then A. Goodluck ever timing it right.

The hell is up with the controls? X is the select button in menus, but in gameplay, it's for jumping and attacking at the same time? And why is there a delay when attacking? Why is moving with the arrow keys so slow?

I really hope they resolve these problems soon.

I'm...used to the game now.

Using the steam controller set to gamepad, no issues. The combat is just clunky.

Beat the first world. Second world is HOLY SHIT!

This sounds like a double input issue, as that's not the correct controls.

Only messed around but probably going to try rebind the dodge and cast. Dodge on LB is unintuitive, feels like it should be on LT.

I wonder if it's because I'm playing with a DS4 using DS4Windows. I haven't had any issues like this before, though.

It most likely is, I was actually going to ask if you were using a DS4 but IIRC they fixed the double input issues. In the options are you set to exclusive mode?

When that happens it thinks you have both an Xinput and Dinput controller at the same time and produces loads of weird combos.

Any Kickstarter backers here to help clarify something for me? I received my Steam code via email earlier today. Just installed it, all good there. The email also mentioned that an Xbox One code would be sent in May/June... problem is, I didn't actually back for an XB1 code, and I don't recall the developer ever contacting me about my platform choice. Did anyone else get an email, survey, etc. sent to them that allowed them to choose their platform?

To summarize, I backed Slain! early in its campaign, when XB1 was the only platform announced. They eventually revealed PS4/Vita support, and the Kickstarter was updated to say that any tier marked "Xbox One" would be considered "any console" once you pledged, and that backers would be sent a survey after release to select their platform of choice. This was noted in update #10, as well as the main campaign page.

I bumped my pledge up to $50 to get both a PC and PS4 version of the game, plus the other perks, and now I'm wondering if I somehow missed out on their survey. I searched my email but didn't find any contact from the dev or distributor about it, scanned the campaign and every update with no luck, and checked my pledge and saw no survey was ever sent.

I'd read through the comments/ask about it on Slain's KS page, but it's a hot mess there now. I plan on emailing the dev/pub about this, of course, and I assume it's an easy fix, but I'd kind of like to know if my account somehow slipped through the cracks or if they just never bothered to send surveys out.

I just realized how long this post has become for such a simple question, and how much time I spent trying to find out if they ever sent a survey or not. Fuck. Should just go play the game.

Edit: Well I just ctrl+f'd the Kickstarter comments for "survey" and see some angry people asking the same thing. Also,I totally forgot about the digital art book, the "exclusive" blood sword code, and some other stuff that was supposed to be given to certain backers.

Hopefully this wall of text helps some other poor confused soul who could have had their answer in mere seconds if they didn't skip over Kickstarter comments

Oh boo you can't change controls like I wanted, saw the input tab and assumed I could, it's only like movement that appears to be bindable.

Played it for 15 minutes on steam. No delays for me. Controls were responsive. Fighting could be better explained. I found dodge and the missile by accident. I died a couple of times in the cellar/tomb in the first level due to my inability to dodge. I don't like to dodge with the shoulder buttons. B would be better. The (hard?) slash on B sucks anyway. I will try again tomorrow. I got some Ghouls n Ghosts vibes. Maybe not that elegant and spectacular, but it seems nice.

Yeah I solved it. There was an error when I first connected the controller, and now it seems to be working fine.

...And the game still doesn't feel that good. There's still a delay whenever you're attacking, which contributes towards making the combat feel clunky as hell. And the lack of sound is also really offputting.

The slash on B is the decapitate button, it's meant to be used when enemies are in a sort of downed state, and you regain mana from it. It can be tough to tell when it's a good time to use it though.

so its level based then?

That doesn't sound very promising. =/

But thank you for posting your impressions.
I think I'll wait a bit before picking this up.

Its like the old arcade game Magic Sword, mixed with ghouls and ghosts, and Altered Beasts. The game is very straight forward and doesn't really explain...anything. Once I got to the second level, it clicked; I'm having fun now.

Slain is hard as fuck though. You can't spam sword attacks, gotta time swings and distance.

I gotta say this isn't the mind-blowingly amazing thing I've been excited for, so far. Hopefully these issues get ironed out, won't be able to play again til Saturday so it's possible... right? :/

I think he's working now.
DAS MACHINE IS SENTIENT ONCE MORE!

Slain Steam Key -- MB-CFC1CADC8FEDD5C2 - Taken by derExperte

Just played for 30 mins. Got to a checkpoint because I wanted to take a break. Loaded up, and it started me from the beginning of the game. Ugh

In some room with floaty things around a key, a few of them come down and I kill them but the rest don't come down far enough to hit.

Also not a fan of every indie game having a grunge rock soundtrack but it is what it is.

I've been meaning to try the game ever since I saw the first screens, however the first impressions are concerning and I'm not going to play a game only for the art if the gameplay's bad.

I await more deep impressions. GAF don't fail me.

I'm probably going to pass. Got sick of that little "feature" in Volgarr, and this game doesn't sound nearly as polished.

Watching Slasher's stream, yea I think this is a pass for now.

The art is amazing, but the level design seems pretty weak.
