Dark Souls III [Import OT] Kindle the fire, one last time

Dark Souls 2 is better than 1 though. =)
Better at making you feel depressed I guess, which you could call a success if that's what they're going for. But while Dark Souls gave off a bleak vibe to depress you, Dark Souls II just depresses you with its wasted potential and garbage game status.

I'm in the catacombs or whatever

suddenly
something like 30 skeletons ambushed me out of nowhere, yes literally 30.

what the fuck

edit- lol how the fuck do I kill the boss there

re invasions
so is that forest area in the part with the water and crab things a big invasion zone? I got invaded like 3 times in 5 minutes. Killed all those fools.

Just go Pyromancer then. It's typically been more damaging than Sorcery, at the cost of range; but it still reaches farther than most weapons

Is Pyromancy based on DEX or is it INT? Can't remember which stat it scaled off in DS1. I think I'm afraid to put any levels into INT because I don't want to gimp myself early game.

I picked cleric but I'm trying to play it like a standard sword and shield character. Not having a lot of luck. Should I just start over as something else?

When will I find a decent dex weapon?

Iframes on rolls in this game feel really generous compared to the last games. I also really miss the regain mechanic from BB. By the time I get to the boss I have taken many smaller hits and have to waste estus.

20h in, feels like I haven't scratched the surface

with all the loopholes allowing people to play the game who are outside of Japan I wonder if From Software will just unlock the game for everyone earlier then April 12th...any chance?

Yeah it's related to a
covenant. Similar to the bell covenant in dark souls 2. If someone walks in you can be summon to defend that area.

So pleased I found sunbros early. And by chance lol.
cursed greatwood nearly down. Seems more straightforward now. It'd just a case of biding your time and wailing on his groin when opportunity arises; )

Probably not. It's Bamco that makes the call, and it'd piss off retailers somethin' fierce.

Bah. If I can list off why I like DS1 better than BB:

-Better world design (connectivity and sense of mystery to finding inaccessible areas)
-Better NPCs (Bloodborne didn't even have NPCs for trade, just those "messengers")
-Better discovery (Too few items in Bloodborne made discovery less encouraging)

Anyone else felt the same?

I hope I'm not just tired of the series, but having skipped DS2, I am pretty excited to play something like DS1 again.

Very disappointed about the world design. Dark Souls 1 seems like it won't be topped in that case, and I am actually very surprised that they would move away from something so very special.

Dark Souls hid a lot of its linearity behind unbalanced world design. You could go quite a few directions early, especially with the master key, but progress was halted in many places because of the lord vessel and some areas out right hidden behind a seemingly tough boss for early levels
unless you found a way to cheese them like Ceasless D.

But you always had to go through several non optional bosses even if you could bypass others. And some classes and armor sets are out right hid behind locked doors like advanced pyromancy.

why would it piss off retailers?...the same people that planned on buying on April 12th will just buy the game earlier...the Souls games aren't Grand Theft Auto or Fallout which get a lot of hype and advertising...it's still a niche series of hard core fans (although it's become more mainstream with Dark Souls 2)

Anyone else get the same vibe as me when I say this game feels the proper sequel to Dark Souls 1? Dark Souls 2 just didn't feel good to play for me, but Dark Souls 3 is a joy and the enemy design and general aesthetics are so much better.

Because they have contracts with retailers. Retailers plan around receiving X shipment on Y day and making shelf space, having proper advertising, etc. They probably also have other contracts along the supply chain with production, shipping, distribution, etc. All stuff that's sorted out months in advance. Changing all of that would cost money and probably isn't worth it to them.

Enjoying the PVE very much, the game feels really well designed (DS1/Bloodborne level)

However I fucking hate the PVP in this game with all the lag rollback invulnerables and lagstabs. There was nothing I could punish on their whiffs or even trades, my attacks just go through their body and they would roll a second later and not take any damage.

Also tried to score backstabs, only to get my self stuck in the backstab motion while they fucking roll out of it. The PVP is broken for me :(

To clarify, I'm not getting any problems cooping with my friends, there doesnt seem to be lags, but the laggy invaders really ruins the PVP experience.

This sword has a fucking great moveset

I forget where I got it, but google translate says something along the lines of "wolf sword" but honestly google translate is really unreliable

is this a
black knight sword
?

Asking again since it got lost in the shuffle, any word on the soft caps?

Anyone have an opinion on enemy variety? Weapon variety? Is the variety satisfactory?

All insane. There are more unique monsters this time around than in any other Souls game period. The variety and quality of some of these things is incredible. Towards the mid-late game you'll be going "What the hell is that thing?!" every two seconds. It's even better than Bloodborne in that regard.

I'm close to the end. This might end up being the best Souls game.

Screenshot is a bit fuzzy so I can't read the middle kanji well, but I think it says
Wolf knight greatsword
.

Weird thing about the Xbox version: achievements aren't popping. I'm getting them, they're just not popping up as a notification on my screen when they happen.

I think that's the latest version of(Dark Souls 1 spoilers)
Artorias's, one of Gwyn's four elite nights,
Sword.

I think it's called
Wolf Knight's Sword
in the English version.
I didn't make it but the 'Wolf Knight' was corrupted by the Abyss so I think it's Artorias' Greatsword. Not sure though.

Do you have your matchmaking set to local only? If you don't, you'll be invading Japanese people for the most part. Actually, how does that work? Does the game know that you're actually in the US, or does "local" = Japan for the Japanese version of the game?

Anyway, I've spent about 5 hours PvPing so far and while it's a little laggy due to invading mostly Japanese, I've had a ton of fun with it. I was up until 4am this morning invading
the flooded forest
.

As for game length, I was thinking that I was probably ~halfway through due to seeing some comments about it being short, but apparently I'm not even 1/3 through the game. I saw where Peeve had to stop, and that's about where I am now but he did go a bit further into one particular area. I've done ~13 hours of PvE so far, so I'm looking at somewhere between 35-45 hours for completion, which is about 10 hours longer than my first Bloodborne playthrough. Note that I'm extremely thorough when it comes to exploring and backtracking. No roadblocks so far.

It wasn't based off of any stat in Dark Souls. Higher levels of DEX affected casting speed. but it wasn't Pryomancy exclusive. In Dark Souls 2 it scaled off of INT and Faith (pick one or the other), which it does in this game as well.

They would have to be, since there's no way to actually make them better through stats. Also, the regain mechanic to me has always just been the replacement of blocking with a shield. If you block, you aren't taking damage, so you don't need to regain it. You can't use a shield in Bloodborne, and are bound to get hit, so you need a way to recover besides consumables. One is preventative, the other is reactive.

the boss that was in the network test, Dancer of the Boreal Valley, doesn't appear for me. I still have the npc instead of the boss in the room.
what do I need to do?

Well, well. Check this thing out (Taken from the Shosuko's Twitch stream. who managed to complete the game):

Considering this and the fact Miyazaki himself confirmed there is no clear development unit structure in FROM, I hope this puts the silly A-team/B-team thing to an end and everyone finally stop bashing Tanimura.
