2015-16 TV Cancellations: The Beast, having been fed, asks waiter for his bill.

Here's a breakdown of the scene depicted:
- The scene starts with the patient refusing to give the doctor her seat in first class. For some reason, she just goes back and sits in coach rather than wait for the flight attendants to help resolve the seat situation
- Once in coach, the show goes with the predictable "kid kicking the back of the character's seat" cliche.
- The very same person who stole her seat has medical problems, and the flight attendants ask if there's a doctor on board. She tries to get out of helping for comic relief ???
- Then she goes up. The guy's body is laid out just inside first class with the curtain open for everyone to see ???
- After making a snarky remark about stealing her seat (this is why it is important that she didn't get her seat back), she immediately diagnoses that the he's got pneumothoreax (the show doesn't say this because it avoids medical terminology in general). Either way, the important thing is that she's gotta do an emergency operation on him in the plane.
- The pilot comes out, confused at whatever is going on (I guess the flight attendants didn't clue him in???) and the main character announces "I'm a cardiothoracic surgeon". In case you couldn't pick up that the name refers to a heart and lung specialist, a character later on in the show explains to the audience that cardiothoracic surgeons are heart and lung specialists. We've hit new bottoms in focus-tested dialogue to explain things to dummies.
- She then begins to ask flight attendants for all the things she needs: the plane's medical emergency kit, a vodka neat (to sterilize her equipment, lol, joek); a "black card from the passengers in first class" (which she promptly breaks in two to make an incision into the person's chest); and a pen (to use to remove the fluid or whatever, I guess?)
- She does not wait for the plane's emergency medical kit. Wait, why did the flight attendants not get it as they were asking for a doctor??? Note that in the US plane emergency medical kits have syringes, needles, and scalpels necessary due to the need for emergency surgery, especially tracheotomies, so the entire sequence here was totally contrived.
- Again, with the curtain wide open, she cuts the patient open using the broken black card and then uses the pen to extract the fluid from his lung cavity. She asks for napkins to bandage the incision and stop bleeding ... napkins, really? Then she makes another wisecrack, only to realize that blood has shot all over her dress.
- Smash cut to her giving a speech after landing, dressed in the flight attendant's 60s retro miniskirt outfit lol because her outfit was covered in blood

Kudos to whoever had to write the score since the show relies on scoring for 100% of the pathos and tone.

I volunteer you to review the rest of the season for TV GAF's amusement~

Sorry to TV-Ratings GAF, it has been a crazy week at work since our new CEO is gonna finally visit HQ on Monday so all hands on deck.

Hopefully can get back into my race with Dan and joni soon!

Finished watching iZombie S1. Tip for fans: don't sell the show as 'Veronica Mars' with zombies 'cause that's just going to increase expectations that iZombie can't dream reaching. I see why the comparison is made but it starts and ends there.

It's a cute show that is quickly brought down by 'case of the week' mentality. The problem is the whole premise of the show doesn't make sense. OK, you're a doctor who gets infected and in order to get brains you switch to being a Medical Examiner at the morgue. That's fine. But please, why the heck are you eating the brains of *EVERY* body?! Most of the cases involve victims who haven't suffered any head injury. Why the heck are you drilling their skull open? And what, the family gets the body and they see the skull has been drilled for no reason and they say nothing? No question asked why the hell they opened their loved one's head when it had nothing to do with the cause of death?

It's completely a non-starter. Also the 'visions' are the most lazy piece of writing ever in the history of procedural shows. Every single vision Liv gets is paramount for the case and almost always provides the break. The writers can slip it in whenever they want depending on if if they want to delay proceedings or speed through it. It's just a matter of waiting for a stupid 'trigger' for Liv to have the vision that is always important and the hurdle is cleared.

There's also the issue that they never give a good reason why Liv keeps her situation secret or what's the big of letting the news about zombies in general reach the public.

At this point i might sample S2 thanks to the readheaded character they introduced in the last ep.

Questions about S2 that might get me to watch it, spoilers ahead:

1.
Is Liv really going to refuse to give blood to save her brother's life just so her 'condition' isn't revealed. Does she get off the hook somehow by someone else donating?
2.
Do they still try their hardest not to spread the knowledge of Zombies to the greater public? Will it still be a secret known only by those who know at the end of S1?

1.
Yes, she refuses and this makes her a pariah in her family.

2.
More people start to know about the zombies. General public no but there are more moving parts and people involved, much more than just Blaine delivering brains to clients.

It is indeed stupid she doesn't change
her brother
in a zombie. Oh wait, that sounds like something to avoid.
Also, zombies aren't popular. People like to kill zombies. It is like the ultimate politically correct power fantasy.

don't bring a knife to a gun-fight, HBO, i have thread title changing powers

I just remembered HBO also has the Westworld situation looming over them. They're in a really shitty position.

Don't worry they have tons of quality product:

- The Brink
- Lewis and Clark
- Westworld
- Vinyl

Edit: Oh, they un-renewed The Brink
Edit 2: Wait, whoops, Lewis and Clark didn't work out.
Edit 3: Oh, I see Westworld is having production trouble.

Well, at least they've got the popular and critically acclaimed Vinyl!

Surprising about Togetherness, it must have been dirt-cheap for them to make, and their stable isn't exactly strong right now.

Sarcasm? Never seen anyone speak kindly of The Brink.

about to finish House of Cards Season 2, liked the first better. Lets see if S3 is as bad as everyone says then

In other news, The Catch is not very good. First, it's a super Shonda show (pop music with a hint of soul used in montage, lots of wacky camera transition work, women writing on a board intensely, effortlessly stylish and good looking people demonstrating their sexual chemistry to one another). It mostly consists of very wealthy attractive people driving expensive cars around LA landmarks. I saw the LACMA, the Disney Concert Hall, Avenue of the Stars, and a few others before I had to turn my brain off.

The plot is simple: Mireille Enos (the Killing) is some sort of private investigator who specializes in antiquities or something??? and she has a big consulting firm or something... and she starts dating Peter Krause, who is some sort of international conman billionaire art thief or something. On the eve of their marriage, he runs off with all her stuff... now she wants REVENGE!!! on him!!! for breaking her heart!!! Penny from Lost is Krause's con-partner. Also Krause has some regrets... maybe he really does love Enos. It's a lot less interesting than it should be because the people depicted are comically rich and the stakes are ??? well, it's not even clear. I guess Krause took some client data from Enos' firm? Or something?

Camera-wise, they do sliding splitscreens and picture-in-pictures, but the most obnoxious thing is in the throw from commercial they do this double exposure thing where they show the establishing shot (invariable some skyscraper or other) superimposed on itself in kaleidoscope. It's like the glass frosting camera effect they use in Scandal all the time. Multiple scenes have Mireille Enos scribbling on a glass whiteboard, just like Viola Davis in the classroom scenes of How to Get Away with Murder. Dialogue exchanges are all skilled professionals talking in rapid-fire, making leaps of logic.

So far, so Shonda. Here's my beef. You've cast two extremely attractive leads. Mireille Enos (age 40) is stunning. Peter Krause (age 50) might be the hottest, kindest Dad on television. Both are dressed in designer clothes like #StyleIcon Olivia Pope. Unfortunately they insist on giving Enos pancake foundation to even out her skin and the most cartoonish raccoon eye makeup. In close-up shots her eyelashes take up a significant amount of the shot. It's absolutely distracting. Peter Krause has a bad dye job and in his first major scene in the show has really bad orange-brown tan foundation. It feels to me like ABC/Disney doesn't feel comfortable with old people who have wrinkles and lines on their faces lead a show.

The climactic scene involves Krause-as-superman being one twist ahead of the twists, just like Olivia's Dad in Scandal. Which is okay because the very next scene is an even more climactic scene where the totally not Huck character, who is a normal looking person who is actually a secret super-hacker, twists the twist back on itself and owns Krause!!! Wow, twist! But then the scene after that is even more climactic, where Peter Krause effortlessly breaks into Enos' apartment again to leave her a message! FINAL TWIST!!! "Alright... you wanna play? Let's play!" *smash cut to end title card*

I think if they deshondafied the production a bit, got out of the way of the affable leads, and established some stakes people might care about, we'd have something to work with.

I stopped watching that cringefest.

revisit it when you get married.

this Most Wanted shit is really happening lol. Who thought this was a good idea. And thats coming from a Agents of SHIELD and Bobbi/Hunter fan

Calling a show Most Wanted when the show it's spinning off from is getting fractional ratings is hilarious.

What are you doing, HBO?

Canceling a show that almost no one watches seems like a smart move to me.

Togetherness is decent but I can't see why anyone would be broken up by the fact that it's ending.

I was more disappointed that they went for predictable procedural instead of the awesome supernatural focus of the comic. So much more potential there, IMO

about to finish House of Cards Season 2, liked the first better. Lets see if S3 is as bad as everyone says then

I liked Season 3, maybe even more than the majority of Season 2 but I'm in the minority there. I really enjoy politics, so I've always kinda seen the show through a pulpy lens and never taken it that seriously. So the more ridiculous elements don't bother me very much. Acting is always solid, and it looks great. That never wavers. I think Season 3 was a setup season, so a lot of viewers didn't see the forward momentum they wanted in the main plot.

was Episodes cancelled by Showtime?

I read that Matt Le Blanc had a pilot on another network. Plus he signed up to do Top Gear as well. Think it's safe to say that Episodes won't be coming back for another season. Bit of a shame because I liked it quite a bit.

On the subject of episodes, are there any other good shows like it which blend real life personalities with fictional characters? Kind of like how Entourage and Curb did it?

What I would say about Season 2 of iZombie is that everything about the show just improves.

ultimately it's more of the same though. But the amount of plot they get through while still keeping the story of the week motive and all the character beats in Season 2 is pretty impressive.

In terms of the brain issue, in most post mortems the brain is removed and weighed.

Extras with Ricky Gervais.

There was that forgettable show last year with Josh Gad and Billy Crystal.

I can't remember if The Comeback had real people in it.

Canceling a show that almost no one watches seems like a smart move to me.

But when you're HBO and you're having colossal difficulties in getting any new show off the ground, is it smart to cancel one of the few shows you do have? On the other hand, the Duplass brothers do have a deal with HBO and they seem capable to churning out stuff quickly (not a knock against them btw), so maybe they already have something else in the works...

I can't remember if The Comeback had real people in it.

It did!

Finished House of Cards Season 2. As implausible as this all is, it sure is compelling. Frank is such a fucking dirtbag. Didnt expect him to
get the presidency so soon.
