HTC Vive is $799, ships early April 2016

So the pre-order page originally said the headset would ship in may, it now says new pre-orders will ship in APRIL. BOOM. There goes my 900 USD directly deposited into HTC/Valve's account. Looks like HTC's connections with manufacturers in Asia helped with ramping up production.

VERY interesting. You should fill up that order tracking form and find out what the rep tells you.

I went to find my order email, finally found it in the trash and somehow I managed to lose/permanently delete it when I told the IOS app to move it back to the inbox and now I can't log in to check my status. I am in the May group but haven't received an email. I won't worry unless units start showing up for May eta people.

Thanks. I'll oscillate between feeling better and feeling worried for both of us. But I think if this is the case it's no big deal.

If you are using Gmail or some email client that separates types of emails, look in your Promotions tab or something. It didn't show up in the main part of my Gmail. I was freaked out too!

Good advice, mine ended up in spam, and then in promotions after marking it as not spam.

Are you one of those types that mindlessly deletes email because you think its all junk? I am and I've deleted plenty of important emails accidentally. Might want to check your trash too. :)

I actually don't delete anything. I wonder if it's regional? I'm in Illinois and I know that DR has a warehouse somewhere around here. I dunno.

I have a feeling these are going out to everyone who ordered. Even if it's not shipping.
I can't see myself getting one soon if I ordered just a couple of days ago.

Yeah I think mine is going to be shipped near the end of april and not the first or second week like the folks who ordered well in advance.

Try again
Those don't look like the preorder area I see. Rather those look like the confirmation email, and that isn't dynamic so I don't know how you're getting that result.

This is what I see for a new preorder:

And this is what I see when looking up my order using the link from the processing email (that's working for me now).

Still saying May in both cases.

here is the pre-order page now. My guess is that the factories in China were able to move up their production timeline to meet demand. Again I don't think your messaging is going to change, you'll probably get an update stating that your order will be shipped sooner rather than later. Perhaps one of us is seeing an incorrect/cached version of the pre-order page? I looked at the pre-order page yesterday as well and it showed May so it definitely changed over night.

Good point about caching. That page doesn't include anything user specific, so it could be cached. Damn, if that's the case, it's looking more and more like we'll see a mass shipment of all orders. Still not going to get too excited until I see the charge on my card.

Found it!

The US version is here,

https://store.digitalriver.com/store/htcus/en_US/contact/ThemeID.38736100#bottomForm

Though they seem to be slower with the US version.

Follow these instructions:
  • Fill your order number only (mandatory) (It's not necessary to put your e-mail)
  • Choose "Shipping Question"
  • Choose "When will my order arrives ?"
  • Submit
  • Check your mails. You will receive a mail named *Re: ShippingQuestion - ArrivalDate - *
  • If not, check your paypal e-mail and spam/junks folder

They might take a day or two to respond, but at least we'll know if it's consistent

So is every getting charged $60 for tax?

$72.54 for me. Because California...

The us store appears to just be sending out the same response to everyone about not knowing when the order will ship, unlike the Europe side which are telling people what wave they are in.

Not for me. They specifically said first wave. But that was a few days ago.

done

? First wave is day 1. So, you'll get it the week of the 5th, most likely.

It's the second wavers that have heard everything from the week after the 5th to mid-April to late April.

Ahh, I didn't realize we knew they were starting shipping the first week. I thought it was just "April", which is a little wide open.

I don't think that's correct, is it? You should pay just the Irish VAT. Doesn't Swizerland have treaties with EU that make sure the double charging of VAT is avoided?

Can't we get back the EU VAT?

Well, I called HTC's support and couldn't give me a straight answer. They said they would call back but never did (this was 2+ weeks ago).

The thing is that the 899€ price tag is "opaque" as everybody pays the same even though they don't have the same VAT. Because of this opacity, we're pretty much guaranteed to have to pay additional customs fees.

Here's some more info from another Swiss customer: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/48fml9/non_eu_countries_get_to_pay_vat_without/

I don't like what I read. First Oculus VR fucked up with me and now I have to decide if I even want to keep my Vive preorder.

These companies were different once.

This is depressing, and right now I feel like HTC is trying to fuck me in the ass.

In Norway we have 25% VAT.. The price for my Vive and Rift orders will be 600 fucking dollars more than if I buy it in the store later this year.. Why on earth haven't they sorted this out earlier and been more clear about it.
