National Enquirer: Ted Cruz Has Had at Least 5 Extramarital Affairs

Libel is illegal in America. No publication can print whatever they want. Trump friends and the NE are willing to lose millions in court? Especially since Cruz is running for President. The damages would be through the roof.

And that's all Cruz really has to do. Sue. Which I have a feeling he won't.
I already answered this.

He can't sue because it's phrased in such a way so as to avoid libel. If you read the actual text, they don't even specifically claim that he has been unfaithful, they are just "reporting" that there are rumors to that effect. They never even state directly that they are claiming that he has done anything. Look at the actual language.

The romps that could destroy his presidential campaign!

Presidential candidate Ted Cruz is trying to survive an explosive “dirt file” on the finger-wagging conservative senator!

And the new issue of The National ENQUIRER — on newsstands now — reveals how the reports say the staunch Republican is hiding FIVE different mistresses!

“Private detectives are digging into at least five affairs Ted Cruz supposedly had,” claimed a Washington insider.

“The leaked details are an attempt to destroy what’s left of his White House campaign!”
There's no there there. I hesitate to even write in this thread because I get the sense that this is just being perpetuated by Trumpers at this point, but the posts in this thread have been so terrible that I wanted to weigh in.

Apparently there is a video showing women leaving the hotel Cruz lives in (he lives in a hotel while the senate is in session), but that is the extent of it.

WTF is Radio970 an how do I listen to it? Wouldn't want to miss the end of Cruz's campaign if its happening.

Edit: Found it.

Edit 2: Well that was fucking nothing. He pretty much said "If it was really false then Cruz would sue immediately. So it has to be true" and a couple other arguments like that. I also think he said something to the extent of someone gave Cruz a BJ in a closet at the Republican State Convention. :/

I dont understand why people are excited about this garbage. Trump is basically using his friends in tabloid media in order to attack Cruz with unsubstantiated rumours. Not only is this extremely suspect as a campaign strategy, it is also very harmful to Cruz's family.

If this works, do you think similar tricks will not be used in the general election? It is shaneful and weird that these Trump minions are apparently willing to do anything to get him elected.

I guess you missed out on the part where the claims originally came from Marco Rubio's camp. They even have video evidence (but nothing concrete).

I'm still somewhat skeptical about whether an affair happened or not, but this lady is really fucking weird.

At the very least, I learned that Ted lived 1,500 miles away from his wife for seven years.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/sf/national/2016/01/29/deciderscruz/

But in the earliest days of their marriage, they weren’t always together. At a time when Ted Cruz felt unsatisfied with his track in Washington, he made a decision to take a high-profile job in Austin — as Texas’s solicitor general — that provided a testing ground for his conservative arguments but also forced him to move 1,500 miles from Heidi, who continued working at the Treasury Department in Washington.

The job ultimately helped to launch Ted Cruz’s political career. It also nearly backfired: He and Heidi weathered several years of strained, long-distance commuting. And when Heidi finally moved to Texas, the strain only grew. She fell into a depression, what Cruz calls the couple’s “difficult chapter.”

This also explains his wife's depression.

that supposed note slipped in the purse holds a direct quote of a 2004 urban dictionary entry on sapiosexuality.

http://www.urbandictionary.com/author.php?author=Mr+M.+Ister

Funny you should bring up urban dictionary. I saw someone posted on the Twitter feed as well which is what Amanda Carpenter used on the CNN video: "Categorically false!"

http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Categorically+False&utm_source=search-action

“What’s out there is tabloid trash,” Carpenter said. “If someone wants to comment on it, they can talk to my lawyer. It is categorically false, and you should be ashamed of spreading this kind of smut. Donald Trump supporters should be held to account for it. I will not be intimidated.”

https://www.rawstory.com/2016/03/wa...g-her-as-one-of-ted-cruzs-alleged-mistresses/

So yeah those 3 extra are probably fake at this point, but with the prior posts, probably doesn't matter.

I remember a daily show segment on something related to this on how fox news got around this by just saying "sources say" followed by whatever batshit crazy thing they wanted and they could just avoid issues of slander.

Actually one of the standards for libel is "willful disregard of the truth" which even this language transgresses.

There's EASILY enough to build a case against. It's his suit to file if he wants to. It's never open and shut but they opened themselves to legal action and must be confident in more than semantic judo.

I actually kind of don't believe he had five affairs. There isn't really much evidence or "coincidences" showing him with all these women.

I think he only had one. With Carpenter. The high number just being bait to try and draw more attention to it. If more proof was ever found he had a single affair, it wouldn't really matter if he didn't have the other 4, it would validate the story. The picture of her wearing his jacket was evidence enough for me. Her Twitter posts make it clear she's madly in love with him as well.

? I mean, there might be enough for the case to not be dismissed outright, but I can't imagine that it would get very far. I mean, look at what the enquirer actually wrote:

They reported that claims and rumors exist and that private detectives are investigating the topic. Those are statements that can't be refuted. They didn't get close to actually accusing him of anything.

I'm saying you can quite easily prove a "willful disregard for the truth" versus proving a nakedly false allegation. Judges do not like lawyers peeing on their leg and claiming rain and juries even less so.

I don't know what you're basing your confidence on. Libel cases are notoriously hard to win, which is why so few of them are brought. Here's a good (but old) article on why so few libel cases are brought and how hard it is to win them:

Unlike Gawker, the National Enquirer has actual competent lawyers on their staff. They know exactly how to work around a libel lawsuit that makes one impossible for a plaintiff to win satisfactory.

Where's the confirmation that it was Cruz's jacket?

There's none.

But the tattoo, though... Like, if they're not having an affair, the only possible explanation is that they're just very good friends, which is 100% possible. They happened to be hanging out, Ted got this crazy idea about temporary tattoos, they got them and nothing else happened. Again, possible. But probable? I dunno.

...Or, as she was a senior official in his office at that time, they decided to get temporary tattoos for April Fool's Day so he could be a jokester on Fox News.

No, the only possible explanations are not 1) They're having an affair or 2) they're just very good friends. Someone on the internet is actually making and selling them, that would be like saying they had to be having an affair or good friends if they both mentioned liking the new Meat Loaf album.

For example...

They could be co-workers sharing a joke.

this tattoo thing is the height of reaching.

How do we know they didn't buy 100 sets of two and gave them out to a lot of the campaign staffers?

Not in the US. Libel is extremely difficult to prove over here due to the first amendment.

Well, I guess the thinking is, they were together before he went on the air there, and he couldn't wear his jacket because he was going to show off his tattoo on the show so he maybe left it with her? Very convenient, but who knows.

Not sure if it has been brought up yet, but the image with 3 more people was made by a twitter fellow named Leon. He specializes in stuff like this

I didn't mean it was easy - just that the standard is broader and looser than "watertight" semantic judo.
Uh...

The quotes from those women... It reminds me of this from a boston globe article:

As they were entering their second year in law school, Melissa Hart agreed to give Cruz a ride from New York, where Cruz was at the end of the summer, back to Cambridge. She didn’t know him well, but he sought her out after she had been given a prestigious award for first-year students.

“We hadn’t left Manhattan before he asked my IQ,” Hart said. “When I told him I didn’t know, he asked, ‘Well, what’s your SAT score? That’s closely coordinated with your IQ.’ ”

“It went from, ‘Nice guy,’ ” she said, “to ‘uh-oh.’ ”

Not trying be ignorant, but where's the evidence they were together before he went on air, let alone that it was Cruz's jacket? I mean, with Spitzer, Hart, Foley, Edwards, McAllister, Weiner, Ensign, etc... there were receipts and shit. With Craig, there was an undercover cop that caught him red-handed. With this... as much as I would like to see Cruz go down... there's just rumors and "oh, that jacket is too boxy for a girl."

She called him " Daddy Cruz" and is deleting all her provocative tweets....
So? I guess if half the internet was taking everything I ever said out of context (see her re-tweet of a Salon post,) I'd probably delete anything that might fuel the fire too. Show me a butt-grab or kiss that they thought was off-camera. Show me a hotel check-in as Mr. and Mrs. Tom Canada. Don't show me a boxy Chico's jacket and inappropriate-in-hindsight nickname.

She called him " Daddy Cruz" and is deleting all her provocative tweets....

I have no idea if she actually slept with Cruz but I don't think looking at old tweets is a great way to judge her guilt. Even if she didn't do what she's accused of doing it would make sense to get rid of some of those tweets.
