He's extremely annoying.

My room is already small enough (2.3x1.9m)
I don't want to make it even smaller.
I would recommend wall mounting.
Secure, firm and not prone to wrong moves.
You may have to resign yourself to a standing/sitting VR experience, as that sounds awfully small for "roomscale". Luckily the Vive seems to handle those experiences just as well as it does bigger spaces.
Thank you sir. Ehh that's not looking good for my room :/1.5m x 2m I think for minimum room scale - so about 5ft x 6.5ft

Today i reserved two of those:I live with my parents so wall mounting is already out of the question for me. Isnt there some 3M product thats used for sticking heavier objects to walls?
You can clench it between floor and ceiling, so it's a great way to temporary and fast build up a virtual playground.
Can't help you, but that's a sweet room! Will this work? They would be 5.5m apart.

From what I've seen it looks cool but I couldn't stand more than a few seconds of the video. Why does he keep yelling?

Damn, you're right about that!
So I did this email thing and got a response:
Re: ShippingQuestion - ArrivalDate -
There isn't a shipping date?
Fair enough. Too bad I didn't preorder it sooner.Product Name: VIVE Kit - April Shipment - Switzerland - Part 1
So yeah, your shipping date is just "May"...
You know what I am seeing here initially is the back to basic gameplay that we had in arcades in the early eighties for alot of this room scale stuff. Which to start off will be great. I am sure as the tech matures we will get more complex stuff but this back to basics is actually refreshing.
The real question is when does tron come out? =p

Opposite side of that coin is that developers will not have enough incentive to explore VR space beyond the back to basics if the install base is too small and will not warrant a return on their investment. This is the most likely scenario imo.

Thanks! I live in Switzerland. The room looks a little bit different now. New PC and other stuff. That's a beautiful room you have there.
Where do you live? I don't see that kind of style here in the Midwest.
Yeah, I'm also one of the people who have a hard time watching "Let's Plays", but the Node guys are alright.
FYI I received a response from HTC. They said that my order will definitely ship in April.

What are you guys getting for lighthouse stands? I don't want to mount on walls so looking into stand solutions.
Got an Amazon link?
Would love an Amazon link if you got it.
Also I watched the funahus guys do vr pictionary with tilt brush and a vive pre from the looks of it. Still looks like a blast!

I'm interested in finding a way to buy these in the US as well, if anyone finds anything.Did a reverse image search and found this, no Amazon.com link though:

How high up do the lighthouses need to be? Can I just place them on top of my tower speaker and my rear channel speaker across from one another, or do they have to be very high?
6.5 feet
Some guy on YouTube did a bunch of different heights and found out as long as they see you there isn't much difference. There shouldn't be any occlusion as long as they see the headsetHow high up do the lighthouses need to be? Do they have to be on the same height? In my setup 1 lighthouse would be sitting on 2m and the other on 2.2m.
Nice. Putting this on my wishlist for later.I picked up some cheap tripods with the ball swivel adapter so I can angle them in any direction.

Very easy to set up. I think max height is something like 9ft although I'd be a little concerned with vibration/shaking of the tripod at that height.
Good for you! Looks like you lucked out with a glitch in their ordering system.![]()
So not worth trying it out? Refreshing since 3 minutes.Whoa. I checked the pre-order page and it looks like its back to may shipments, definitely got lucky. SCORE!

You are being far too conservative, the lighthouse FoV is 120° horizontally and vertically. (Like this)
And no, as far as I understand the principle (and I hope I do, I spent a lot of time reading about them) they don't need to face each other directly.
Question about the Lighthouses for anyone who has set them up or knows about them....Do they have to be pointed directly at each other in order to sync properly, or can they be at different angles as long as they can sort of see each other? I have a space I'm planning on using for roomscale, but I'd also like to be able to use the Vive on my desk for seated/cockpit games, which is slightly off to the side of this VR area.
Here's a rough approximation of what I'd like to do:
![]()
X is where I would sit at my desk. Any issues with this setup in syncing or tracking, or should I be golden? Both of the lighthouses will be mounted high, ~7ft high on the walls. Tried to be conservative with the FOV of the lighthouses, but I've heard that they spread a pretty wide beam.
It doesn't really, his illustration uses too small FoV angles for the lighthouses. They don't have to face each other directly, but his setup leaves a corner of the play area tracked by only one lighthouse.
They don't have to face each other directly, but his setup leaves a corner of the play area tracked by only one lighthouse. That's a no-go. Either the lighthouse needs to be angled to not hit the desk, or the play area has to be shrunk or flipped 90 degrees. Also, the desk area is tracked from behind. That's not going to be useful with the Vive if he plans on using it facing the monitor.
Edit: Actually might catch the edges of the headset's sensors at the desk at any rotation, but it's closer to theoretical maximums than I'd want for an ideal placement.
Looks like 120 degrees to me being used in that image. At least if my paper method is holding up here at work lol.It doesn't really, his illustration uses too small FoV angles for the lighthouses.
Is there any reason the lower lighthouse can't just be placed in the lower corner of the room where the desk is?I'll readily admit that it's not an ideal setup, just trying to figure out if I can kill two birds with one stone. Otherwise I'll just have to sit on my couch for all my seated VR experiences, which will work, but won't be as ideal for HOTAS/Wheel cockpit games for me.
And if Durante's 120° FOV for the lighthouses is correct (I'm sure it is), that would only leave a tiny corner of that space to only 1 lighthouse, so I'm not too worried.
