Apple isn't the first company in the world to use an "S" branding for a premium model of something. Japan has used it for numerous electronics in the past. It would only be suable if Sony suddenly called it the iPlayStation .
Apple would still sue.

Good point.....
Very interested with how everything is going to play out now with a leveled mind :l. This will be a tough thing to announce as people are already pissed off with the announcement. Hell, I was quite bitter for a two weeks over this XD!
If they nail the messaging and the price is right (with upgrade plans for OG owners), it should turn out okay.
I think the PS4k name is perfect if they market it more for 4k media.Those of you bringing up nomenclature confusion raise a good point. PS Vita all but failed and a lot of it has to do with the name of the machine. I don't know if PS4K is a good name after all, a PS4-S might be a better candidate seeing as how well the S monicker has worked for Apple in the past.
PS4K is a new console, not a peripheral device. This is a first and not comparable to anything they have done before.
Thing is. They haven't really announced anything yet.
Yup PS4K is just more catchy and makes sense.I think the PS4k name is perfect if they market it more for 4k media.

Hopefully they never do. I like what we have now, thank you.![]()
People who had even the tiniest bit of interest would have known what the Wii U is. People weren't interested to begin with and the name didn't change that.
I am always surprised how people think the average buyer of consoles is a complete idiot who can't do a simple google search.
People need to chill. This is just this gens version of the the slim.
One SKU. No way Sony continues to make ps4.
They have to find a way. They cannot afford any confusion with PSVR coming out.There's no way they come out with an upgraded PS4 for $350.

I think people are just worried, Sony has not got a good track record of supporting their hardwares and peripherals over the past few years.
PS Move
Vita
Vita TV
Playstation camera
Wonderbook
Now we're going to have PS4k and PSVR coming during the same period of time. What will happen to the original PS4? Will Sony support the PS4, PS4k or PSVR more or less?

Prove me wrongNo, it isn't.
I think what I mentioned in the other thread was Sony figuring a way to let developers use the base specs of the PS4 while using the increased gruff of the new model. This has to be 100% seamless to the end user or otherwise, Sony is screwed.Yeah, they definitely seem to be in a tight spot if PS4K launches this year. Maybe the best case would be to cut the price of the PS4, and move PS4K to holiday 2017? PS4, PS4k and PSVR all in the same holiday doesn't sound good imo.
Prove yourself right.Prove me wrong![]()
I give it 2019 at the latest, 2018 more likely. If last gen was an anomaly then why release a PS4K right at/around the release of a VR device instead of using the extra year or so for a PS5, that can sell to a greater net of enthusiasts who won't be so tapped out by not one but two not-exactly-cheap gaming hardware devices?So, 2022 or later?
I really don't believe so. If this PS4K is not real, or never comes out, PS5 will most likely launch in 2020, not later.
You say that, but gamers seem to be the ones doing as much to immolate that draw these days, since they seem less and less impressed with what devs can eke out of hardware later in a generation and more often just seem to wish they had moved the game to next-gen hardware so it had a better framerate.One of the biggest issues feels like they are immolating a huge draw of the console space for no reason at all(IE years of knowing developers will target a single box to draw out the power for years)
This is what XB1 owners have had to deal with since the start and I've seen many get annoyed at the constant mocking from PS4 owners how their version is better and annoyance if effects, resolution, framerate is inferior in the XB1 version of a game. Some have eventually jumped ship and bought a PS4 to get to be "king of the hill" so to speak.Just because you have less under the box, doesn't mean you cant enjoy what you already have.
-Sony has special discount announced at E3; PS4K and PS VR bundle for 599$ (200$ less then both together) to make OG PS4 owners a bit better about the situation
That's my point actually. At this stage. With what we know, my positive outlook is just as valid as all the negatives.Prove yourself right.

BULL!
Look at last gen right at the end. amazing looking games were coming out that people thought were impossible to pull off.

PS move had a ton of support and wonderbook and the camera was part of that.I think people are just worried, Sony has not got a good track record of supporting their hardwares and peripherals over the past few years.

Updated:
Pros
• Backwards and forwards compatibility;
• No more restarting OS from scratch;
• Less risk with introducing new (costly) tech;
• Less chance of PS2/3 situations for devs having to learn alien tech;
• Closer to the bleeding edge (for those that want it);
• Consumer choice regarding how much to spend;
• No/less need for remasters.
Cons
• Faster transitions.
• Exclusives on PS4K due to not being possible on PS4.
You could look at the start of this gen and see the outcry from people saying these machines were weak, and they are.
-PS4 and PS4K Share core game library and the only difference is that PS4K has 'Enhanced' Mode that increases makes Frame Rates more stable and ups the resolution
If this is going to be the case, then I will sell my PS4 and never touch console again until the end of its life when I'm sure no higher SKU will be released, then I might buy one. Not everyone have the luxury to buy multiple console.
Some will argue that the OG PS4 will play just fine, but when I buy console, I expect a same performance until the end of its life just like all of its predecessor. That being said, I'm cool with this idea if they have trade-in program.
This is coming from someone who have every Sony consoles except Vita.
By who though? PC crowd? yes
the many randoms I play with online? Nope.
GAF? You know it since people seem to never be happy on here about anything. Will call a game awesome and great and then 1-2 years later say it was bad really.

Thought impossible to pull off on decrepit 10 year old hardware. Game graphics on PC were blowing that stuff away.BULL!

Well no, not really. Your point wasn't simply "people need to chill". It was "it's gonna be a slim". Which makes it not as valid.That's my point actually. At this stage. With what we know, my positive outlook is just as valid as all the negatives.
You can say 'no it's not' but your answer is only as valid as mine without anything concrete to back it up.
So my point stands. People need to chill.
what does a more powerful ps4 coming out do with the performance of yours?

Console lives last 5-7 years. That's the way it's been since the beginning of consoles. Why fuck with that?
The thing is the PS4 is not even 3 years old lol.
I disagree. I think this move breaks consumer trust completely.

Remaster? Lol, no. A PS4K patch making single player mode run 60fps? Yeah, that'd be nice.Maybe we can get Uncharted 4 remaster on PS4.5.
I didn't realize 4k TVs were selling like that.
Still people complaining about visuals and/or performance regardless of being overly negative or wishy washy.
I can't credit or discredit what you hear with "many randoms" online. I can't point you to a search here (e.g. Witcher 3) and show many people complaining about it from a tech point of view.
