I am hype for my Vive to come in. Kind of. The hype has died down because I'm still on my GTX 770. I need Pascal

This is great! But.. (theBlu):

Is this correct..? Pretty steep requirements, and the minimum and the recommended are exactly the same..

Edit: Wait, for some reason I was reading 980 ti, so with some overclocking on my MSI 970 and my 3770k I'll be in the ballbark.

The new gen GPUs can't come quickly enough..

So my mom never was really much for video games, but back in the 80's she used to adore this:

It was a light gun game for the Sega Master System that was very similar to Lethal Enforcers. She was actually great at it, we had two light guns for the SMS and she'd play with one in each hand. She was the first person in the family to beat the game, and it was the only game she'd actually get out and play on her own.

Now, she's actually interested in VR today (my dad is slowly putting together dual rigs for her and him at his house over the next several months so they can watch VR content together) but mainly the passive stuff. The moment you put a controller in her hand, it becomes too complex for her.

I'm having a BBQ in a few weekends to let a bunch of friends and family try out the new headsets, I can't wait to let her try Space Pirate Trainer. Surely that will blow her mind.

Those specs are a shame. I was really looking forward to getting this. The whale demo was amazing and I wanted it to be one of the main demos I used to introduce friends and family to VR. I'd pretty much need a new computer just to run it.

ffs. So this morning I wake up to an email sent at 1:42am saying there was a problem with payment. I didn't get a warning from the bank, and I spoke to them yesterday so they said it should go through fine. My only thought is that HTC didn't actually retry, they just sent this email out to anybody that had a problem yesterday.

So now I have to contact them so they can retry - but if they'd retried last night it would have worked. now I've probably lost two days??

Also they say 'hey you can change to paypal if you want'. But how? The order details don't have any edit buttons or change payments. And of course their online chat isn't responding and they don't give us crazy Europeans a phone number to call.

For what it is worth, there is a post on Reddit from one of the other folks who also got this cancellation notice, and says that the rep on the phone told him changing payment to PayPal would essentially be creating a new order and lose his place in orders.

Kind of have to take anything from there with a grain of salt but I'd probably try to contact them yourself before trying to change over to PayPal (assuming you find a way to even do so).

Can't see anywhere to do that, and I'm not risking it for the same reason you mentioned - also there is a chance paypal would flag it.

Just annoying that you burn 24 hours waiting for an update because they come at 1-2am UK time. And I contacted both bank and HTC yesterday so they could have retried then.

sigh.

EDIT: WTF they just sent me a cancellation email!!

Yeah. On the plus side, given how widespread the issue seems to be, you'd like to think HTC will work more intently on getting it sorted quickly. Money talks.

How annoying! Can they get it back?

Aw man, im sorry to hear this. I don't see how both companies could screw things up so badly when it comes to customer service. I'm an entry level web developer and even I know how to make a web app that allows a user to update their information.

That said, it'd be crazy if they didn't make an effort to make it right. If you and others ended up at the back of the line because of this they wouldn't hear the end of it for months.

For all of you receiving cancellation e-mails: Did you first receive a warning e-mail prior from HTC? (contact bank etc...)

yes.

seemed like a generic message to contact your bank before they retried the payment. This was about 24hrs after the initial failed attempt.

I'd already called my bank earlier that day so they were ready for any retry. Then the cancellation came.

With these cancellations, maybe they tried again to charge it and the bank fucked it up again?

My bank confirmed Digital River didn't retry the payment so I have no idea where the cancellation came from. At this stage - as so many got it - I can only hope it is some admin screw up and they'll have to deal with everyone one by one. Which will take ages and probably slow shipments down

I'm on HTC chat right now, girl seems she has no clue.

EDIT: they confirm only thing I can do is re-order.

Fuck this shit.

Like every day recently I started today off by checking for new emails from HTC. I didn't get any, but reading this thread that may be lucky. I'm increasingly relieved that I ordered with Paypal.

My money has been taken and their customer service has replied to me and confirmed I'm getting mine on the 5th, but as far as automated communication goes HTC has been silent to me. No email telling me they took my money, no shipment emails, to tracking emails, nothing. Luckily, they are willing to respond if you prod them and leave signs of their activity.

Durante the Wise. xD

Let's add that to your tag.

Anyway I'm pissed. I got in in the first batch, and now if I re-order who knows when I'll be getting mine. And my bank may refuse again.

Seriously... that's so messed up. How could HTC be so unprepared for launch? How have their previous consumer electronic launches gone?

That shitty thing is that it's fucking VR and the Vive is amazing. I typically wouldn't want to support a company with such terrible customer support, but VR man.

Has anyone been called by Digital River Ireland for some reason (without contacting their support before)? I got a call just now and thought it was a spam call as the number was foreign so didn't answer, but it was a DR number.

Going by the posts on reddit, HTC can send you a specific link which put you still in April delivery. And use paypal to make sure you don't go through this again.

I'm happy that I used paypal for my order, the only downside being that I have no idea what's happening to my order.

Okay looks like I'll be getting pushed back to wave 2 as well. My stupid fuckking bank still hasn't processed the payment after 48 hours. It's just sitting as pending. I called them yesterday and they said it'd be processed by midnight last night. No luck. Now it'll be Monday. So stupid.

Rang HTC (twice), got through to what I thought was the Vive support team after being on hold for an hour, to be told that they will contact the actual vive team with my details and someone will call me back in the next 3 hours to help

I'd love for someone to just call me, take my card details over the phone and process it right there and then, and confirm its all done. I don't trust it going back into the machinery.

apparently lots of people are getting cancellations - I would imagine HTC is not going to let potentially hundreds of orders be cancelled. hang in there guys, you'll keep your place in line.

For all of you receiving cancellation e-mails: Did you first receive a warning e-mail prior from HTC? (contact bank etc...)
I received no warning. The last mail I got was (in pretty terrible German) yesterday that my order was being processed (Es ist in der Mache!).

I went to bed last night thinking the rest of the declined card people might be getting a cancellation. I was in the group (canada) that got this email yesterday and we already surmised it was an automated process after about 34 hours.

Sorry to hear you guys got your orders cancelled too. Hopefully htc figures this shit out. The ball's in their court at this point.

Do people who get the April date when ordering actually get put ahead in the queue of earlier preorders that say May?

Have anyone gotten their order to a "shipped" status by doing this?

I asked this same thing earlier (no one answered)

Mentioned if they get to cut the line WITHOUT cancelations being the cause, that would suck ass for people like you and me.

In my case my bank sent me a text at midnight asking me to authorise the money transfer so it could be done again. I sent emails, talked on online chat and recieved a phonecall that I missed. From that I was under the impression they were just going to try charging again and everything would be fine.

This morning I get the cancellation email and HTC Vive support are unreachable. Currently HTC mobile/tablet support are taking numbers and raising tickets in the system to have Vive support call people back up to 6pm today (UK) and on Monday.

He said everything would be fine but I'm pretty dubious from what I've read on reddit, best case April wave 2, worst case back of the queue with new preorder. Most likely something in-between I guess.

Lack of clear communication is the real problem here. No wonder their support systems are down.

Before this entire thing I didn't even know that many banks would refuse "unusual" transactions outright -- I mean obviously I knew they would for truly suspicious one, but not when they come from a well established company.

That really sucks for everyone affected, the wait is bad enough as is.

Any chance you could explain this in layman terms?
No. My only electrical engineering background is a single lecture I attended at university, some tinkering in my childhood and a fascination with certain youtube channels.

I just think it's very cool how open they are about what is arguably their biggest competitive advantage.

I realized last night I shouldn't try for April delivery. I have a business trip this month so my credit limit wouldn't be high enough to take the vive charge with that going on. Oh well.

There is no layman's terms for this. It's the circuit schematics for their sensors. It's instructions for building your own if you know electrical engineering.

That's all I needed, thanks. Also, if that's considered instructions then electrical engineering is magic to me!

And I look forward to putting custom sensors on all manner of things.

It is read almost like a source code. You can use your fingers to simulate current and physically trace what the circuit does. The components are labeled using standardized EE symbols, and different components correspond to logic gates found in boolean algebra. XOR, NOT, AND, etc.

EE is pretty much the physical application of boolean algebra. I wish I had a firmer grasp of EE, but I only have a hobbyist understanding. I can build a half adder and simple components like that, but this is beyond me.

Vive is showing April for pre-orders in the UK right now. If anyone wants to grab one fast.

Given what is going on right now, I have to imagine a lot of those cancellations are going to get put back in their proper place in line. If not there will be a riot with how many there are. Can't hurt I guess if you don't have an order currently but I would probably expect to get bumped back out to May once that all gets sorted.
