This is something I don't understand. A bank shouldn't act like this. A call to the customer for confirmation is not that expensive.
Yeah, that sounds horrible.

I've heard from co-workers who were contacted about potentially fraudulent transactions by their bank, but I've never heard of any bank acting that drastically without confirmation.

Yeah, I don't understand those policies whatsoever. My bank (well, credit union), sent me a text message to my phone the second I was charged to ask me if I had made the purchase.

Sorry to hear that...strange that your bank nuked your account without at least an email or phone call.

Still, HTC situation is just beyond justifiable. There's something really wrong with the way they handle payments; so many banks cancelling is not normal for such a company. No wonder they're going down on the phone market.

Pretty sure this isn't a problem with HTC but with Digital River. I mean HTC should definitely still get the blame for hiring them out but yeah, I remember everyone nearly melting down when they heard that Digital River was going to be handling transactions and stuff.

Wonder if they will use them for Vive 2? lol

I know they're not directy handling it, but they're still responsible. I'm buying from them, not Digital River.

And they're handling it like amateurs.

I still don't fully understand how it is Digital River's (or HTC's) fault if a bank rejects a payment. The subsequent handling? Absolutely. But not the initial problem.

Then again, I don't know much about banking!

Lots of people have reported (from different banks) that Digital River have tried to charge the account without billing address at which point the banks trigger the fraud alert at a higher than normal rate - they then try again very shortly after with the billing address, but the card has already been blocked at that point.

Which begs the question, why not just try with the billing address first? That's if this is all accurate - I also know very little about financial transactions.

I think it's more the cancellation notices, and the oddball queue handling with randomly allowing people in at earlier (supposed) ship dates that has people the most frustrated. Not the initial decline. That's all on the bank/card issuer's end.

Not surpised I think, after I don't think I have been through without getting a bank's fraud alert for Digital River payment which I was trying to get some official MS digital at work such as Windows, office etc..
MS was their clients. Dunno about now, my last order with them was Office 2010.

This cancellations are issued automatically. It's the first time I got a cancellation in years of heavy shopping online. Therefore, it's Digital River's and HTC's fault.

I just checked with my banks SMS and they also sent me a 'are these legit purchases?' Message when I bought my SP4 which was also digital river. Difference then was I could reply instantly so it went through

Durante / if it was one bank I could understand. But it's multiple different banks so surely you can see the possibility that the common element in those issues is DR?

If you actually follow their link for support...there's nothing.

Hopefully though they'll hold true to what stated here.

Proof of the pudding etc. They tried to charge me late Thursday night which I would expect would get me a vive on Tuesday/Wednesday. They redid my order this afternoon so let's see when they can get me one now.

I see on reddit a lot of posts from people who got their orders recreated and being charged shortly after, so maybe it will be solved decently in the end.

I was charged this morning (saturday)...no wonder no one called from my bank (and couldn't check my phone either..:).

I've pestered them on chat support and by email, now with their blog post linked. Hopefully something will come out of this.

Yeah I was trying to minimize the situation. ;)

Heh, yeah quite surprise DR still going on with the same problem.
I think maybe DR is common place to use the stolen CCs because many clients use their service for the software regeneration key email. And that software keys can be resold for real money back.

Do we know how many Vive preorder payments were affected? Internet can give you a slanted viewpoint, and seems it has been common but in truth it only affected a small % of the total consumers?

So what exactly do we tell our banks to make an exemption for? Who exactly is the charge going to be coming from? Digital River? HTC? How does this work? Do they have a database with these companies in them so that they know the spelling isn't wrong or something?

They recreated mine and I got the text for the charge while I was still on the call.

Man, I am glad to see that your situation has been cleared up lol.

So I ordered yesterday using the F5 method of getting an April date.

Right after that I got the first order confirmation:

Today (a few hours ago) I got another one:

And my order details look like this:

The HTC order page just says "In Process".

Any indication that the payment has went through, or did the problems start after this point?
I can see a hold for the full amount on my card, but it's a debit card and it takes a while to transfer to the statement anyway.

.

Best thing would be to have a way to confirm in real time; I tried asking my bank for an exemption but they couldn't do it since it's automated. They ask you, at best.

US or EU?

What did they say to you?

I hope you picked Paypal this time.

Actually no. I figured my bank was warned and they said it'd be ok this time and I didnt want to risk PayPal refusing it.

I am literally going to stay up tonight until 1-2 until I see if the payment went through, just in case I need to react to an sms

There is a poll on the Vive reddit which has 12% of the answers encountering some type of issue. Of course, for all types of reasons (no access control, self-selection on part of the participants, etc.) that may be worse than nothing.

Payment is only processed when the order ships. I've had these same mails and status since February.

US. Called in around 1:30 EST, told them what was going on. Made it very clear that it needed to be updated, that my card information was out of date and that no amount of charge attempts would work. He then let me give him my CC info (not my debit card info), and partway through the call I got the text notification from my CC for the $800.

how long did it take you to get the april ship date to come up?

Two days (using an automated refresher with an alert when it saw April), first day I didn't get it even once but on the second I saw it three times.

I saw it also today even without refreshing, just wandered to the pre-order page and it said April for quite a while.

From this reddit thread of conversations with the HTC vive team:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comments/4d2a4l/full_details_from_the_htc_vive_support_team_on_cc/

As ever, stuff on the internet should be taken with a pinch of salt:
She confirmed that they are NO LONGER SHIPPING IN LARGE WAVES, but using smaller batches more regularly so people don't have to wait longer than necessary (even though all new orders will be 'April Part 2' in reality this will not be shipped as one large single wave)
Estimated delivery time for new orders (for those who had bank problems) is from the 10th April - so a delay of 5 days or so
People who book through the website now and get and happen to get an April shipping date are in for a nasty surprise - those orders are going to be bumped to May, only orders flagged by the Vive team will ship early and jump the queue

Guys the Goat OT name has already been given by someone totally not me who managed to integrate Aperture Science with the Matrix.

Initially was was so hyped to get my spare room VR ready when my card got charged but since its still pending and all these talks about cancellations has taken the wind out of my sails. I spoke with my bank and they said I was good to go. The htc site marks my order as a 'boxed shipment' WHAT DOES THAT MEAN!?! Where is my tracking number! Argh. I haven't been this anxious about a release since Halo 2.
