Did people who get the cancellation email ever get a pending charge from HTC? I have a pending $880 charge from HTC.
Yea, it's funny how people were calling shit on Oculus. My Oculus has been delayed to due to whatever reasons and I received an order cancellation from HTC even though they only made 1 attempt to charge my card.
So my mom never was really much for video games, but back in the 80's she used to adore this:

It was a light gun game for the Sega Master System that was very similar to Lethal Enforcers. She was actually great at it, we had two light guns for the SMS and she'd play with one in each hand. She was the first person in the family to beat the game, and it was the only game she'd actually get out and play on her own.
Now, she's actually interested in VR today (my dad is slowly putting together dual rigs for her and him at his house over the next several months so they can watch VR content together) but mainly the passive stuff. The moment you put a controller in her hand, it becomes too complex for her.
I'm having a BBQ in a few weekends to let a bunch of friends and family try out the new headsets, I can't wait to let her try Space Pirate Trainer. Surely that will blow her mind.
That's a really endearing story. Also, how are you still just a Junior?
OK so HTC just rang and did a remote login session to take me to a unique URL, where I bought another vive which apparantly puts me back where I was in the queue - although he was vague, saying 'first batch' and 'during april'.
The only worrying thing is that the payment wasn't done immediately, so I'm going to have to do that overnight thing. I might actually stay up late tonight just in case..
Regarding that, I still wonder if Valve are planning to sell these (or a future version) at some point.I just got a fully licensed version of Altium at home, this is a pretty simple design so I might create a PCB layout for it to get used to the program and upload it for others to manufacture if they want. Maybe even sell a few if people are interested.
I just realized something, while looking at the extremely high-speed tracking gif again which was posted a while back.
Where is VR table tennis?
It seems like the quintessential room-scale VR sport experience. A ~3m by 3m area should be sufficient to get a pretty good (albeit casual) game on if it only needs to represent ~1m of the table and 2m back from that.
I love you for that I was thinking the same thing

We are making one. Stay tuned!![]()
Did they call you back to do it, or do it while you were on the phone?
Who are "we"? How are you implementing ball/racket physics? We are making one. Stay tuned!![]()
I've only seen UK support do this remote login/replace order approach.
They called me back. I called them this morning around 11am. They took my number and said they'd contact the Vive support team who would call back within 3 hours.
Although from reddit it seems the US is doing things differently, I've only seen UK support do this remote login/replace order approach.
apparantly they are using a one-time URL which allows them to jump the queue? from what I saw the unique part was just a number at the end, and they could have easily given me that over the phone.
Thats really dubious, why on earth would they even need to do that anyway?

Can I beta test? My qualifications are a Vive (soon), a CS PhD and being pretty good at table tennis
When it's in processing HTC can take the money whenever they want.Okay looks like I'll be getting pushed back to wave 2 as well. My stupid fuckking bank still hasn't processed the payment after 48 hours. It's just sitting as pending. I called them yesterday and they said it'd be processed by midnight last night. No luck. Now it'll be Monday. So stupid.
I took an intro to electronics class. I actually really enjoyed it. I recommend it.If you look around, you can find kits that teach you how to make audio amplifiers and things of that sort, usually in the size and shape of an altoids tin can. They usually are books that intend to teach you how to solder, but they serve as a nice basis for the extreme fundamentals of EE - how to read and build a circuit, basic components, etc.
Will definitely let you know when it's ready for testing. We are working on the prototype now while we wait for our vives to arrive. It should be ready to test in a month or so.

Are you in the Midwest? I think we're getting shipped Monday. Don't sweat it.
I'm not seeing the VR aspect at all here. This could just as well be a basic monitor based RTS. If anything, the constant maneuvering around space without any fixed frame of reference makes me think it'd be better on a monitor. They're going to have to show how they're integrating this into VR for me to have any real enthusiasm for this.
I don't know if a space RTS benefits too much from VR, but a tabletop "grounded" strategy game would sure be nice in VR.
I think a space one would be awesome if the game took place on a simulated holographic map. Like you'd see the floor of the room/space ship you're in but the game takes place on a 3D holographic map that you can walk around.
Yes, but that would be practically tabletop.
why not both? give me tabletop rts that I can zoom into and be surrounded by?

I don't see it yet either but the fact that I'm getting a space RTS is enough for me to be excited. I can imagine walking around the battles themselves and moving individual units, yes yes I can.
Think Homeworld or Sins of a Solar Empire but instead of panning around with the camera, I can be in and around the ships in battle. I can reach out and grab a ship and do something with it.
That's a vision I can get behind. YMMV, of course.
You're not going to be walking around the battle at those scales. Shrink it down far enough that the big ships fit in a play area, and the small ships are going to be impossible to target accurately - at least without the equivalent of VR tweezers. So now you're going to need to figure out how to zoom in and out and pan/rotate around without making the user subject to nausea. Then there's figuring out the UI/HUD for the lower resolution screens, and a multitude of other details.developer said:The larger ships are like a few metres and fighters a few centimeters. Looks really neat at that scale.

I just really want Black and White 3 with Vive controllers.
That would be a killer app.
Rest in peace Lionhead.
Yes. Zoom in for the battles. Or in the space stations. Or planets. Or cities.
I wonder how well something like pinch to zoom would work for this. Imagine panning with your movement and head and zooming in and out using both hands. Streatch your arms out and "grab" with both hands and then bring them together to zoom out and the opposite to zoom in, while being able to pan with your head and movement by walking at the same time.
Im in the first wave, my payment was taken on thursday, it shipped same day, then my bank froze the account out of suspicion of fraud on friday night, cancelled my card and issued a charge back on that transaction. So now my order is likely to be stopped in customs and returned to HTC im assuming and i cant reprocess the payment until i receive my new card and activate it. Now it looks likely that ill lose my pre order and wont be able to reorder until between 5-10 working days from Monday when my account gets reactivated.
Devastated.
