Haptic feedback is almost as important as roomscale. SelfieTennis makes it so that you can literally feel the swings of the racket. Not the contact with the ball. The ACT of swinging. Its amazing. One of the most immersive experiences I've had so far.
Good god.

I want a Skiing game, where you put a mask and move with both controllers inclinations.

My transaction is still just pending on my card. I'm wondering if I'll get a shipping notice as soon as it posts. Has your payment posted?

It's in "reserved" status in the bank. I don't know what that means.. Worst case scenario is that it means that the amount is frozen in both ends, the transaction probably didn't reach deadline for some kind of manual approval friday because of a business hours thingy..

If so then good luck for the Vive to get here by tuesday.. not going to happen. Probably thursday then.. /Naive

Most banking payments have 2 basic phases:
- authorization. The seller requests £800 and sends all your details. The bank responds with an authorization code and reduces your "available" balance by £800.
- payment. The seller sends the authorization code, and the payment of the previously requested amount occurs (kindof).

"Reserved" (or basically any other terminology) refers to the bit between them. DR are allowed to take the money from your account, but they haven't done that yet. Legally, they're only supposed to take the payment when the product is shipped - so everything "seems correct".

Yeah same thing here, reserved for the past two days, probably going to be charged when they ship. If they ship. I'm hoping this week, but not getting my hopes up too much. Would be a shame if they didn't. Next week Tuesday national television drops by to do a prime time item on the VR installation we created. Would've been nice if we actually had some premium headsets to show off instead of the DK2 stuff, but oh well.

It'll all start moving tomorrow for everyone who's had money taken/reserved etc, as it is it'll arrive on the 6th, a day after launch with 2 day shipping.

Hmmm just bought some nice headphones but it just occurred to me that maybe I should have gone wireless? Anyone have any thoughts? I've never used wireless headphones before, might there be some issues with it when using VR? How's the sound quality at the ~$100 range?

I'm in IL. Mine is going to ship Monday and arrive at my local facility. Tuesday its going to be out for delivery.
How dare you say I'll have to wait until the 6th, you monster.

Found ya on Reddit! ;)

Exactly. All this positive thinking will make it happen. It's like a 3 hour drive from plainfield indiana.

Are there any plans to sell it on Amazon?
I've been thinking about a Sims VR tabletop with those amazing controllera, it HAS go happen.

It's pronounced like "revive", not that French stuff!
(still getting used to it, bleh)

HTC Vive |OT| one clean room guaranteed with purchase
I was aghast when i heard it being pronounced. Aghast.

I'm sitting this round out for financial reasons, but good luck everyone & enjoy the wait / resolution!

So I ordered my Vive 6 minutes after preorders went live. I haven't been charged yet. The last email I got was "we are preparing your order" on the 28th. Since then, nothing. My order status page still only shows my invoice from preorder day.

Do I panic now, or should I wait until tomorrow?

Panic when everyone else but you gets shipping confirmation. so far only a handful have received a shipping link. You're fine. That said if you want to call HTC and make sure you're fine, don't hesitate to do so.

Exactly the same here; 6 minutes, 28th.
Though the money has been reserved, but nothing else. You could check which batch you are:

I'm going to postpone freaking out until Wednesday.

Damn I just had a thought:

How long before the first Zumba classes are available in VR?

Damn it, i keep coming up with ways to make other people money. I need to found a studio.

Some of my students are working on VR sports prototypes,
boxing away monsters etc.
Though I feel you're going to be pretty hot and bothered wearing a headset and you also don't want the foam to become drenched in sweat.

I wouldn't really want to do long excercises with a visor on tbh, kinect works fine under that aspect imo

But imagine being on a treadmill connected to the vive, and being able to walk/jog through places like venice, the alps, california beach, space, etc.

So you are telling me that now i need to fit a treadmill in my bedroom as well? damn you!

The idea sounds nice, impractical as fuck for me tho

I'd totally do that with my stationary bike. It can connect to my ipad for shitty google street view 'rides' on courses you set up, so VR would be 1000x better.

Excercise VR (outside of Yoga) is unpractical before size is reduced to swimming goggles and they're all wireless.
As is they would heat up and accumuluate sweat etc.

The screws that come with lighthouse mounts, are they intended to support in drywall alone or do they require being screwed into a stud? I'm trying to figure out with I want to do. My space isn't huge but should be adequate (3.5m by 2.5m).

I can't imagine they'd go straight into drywall, but you might be ok screwing in some of those drywall plugs that you can then screw into

these kinds of things

Thanks, I might need to go that way or something similar. I have lath and plaster walls so it's a little trickier since the plaster is just so thick. If the screws are long enough or I can find longer screws that fit and I can reach the lath it should be fine.

Or wait and see how these work out for people:

High intensity exercise while sweating in a vr headset and a cable behind you? You will definitely get rich!

That thing is overkill for the weight. The smaller plastic ones would be fine. I had to pull some of them out a wall recently and it left big holes.

I look at that guy's hair and imagine pouring a few ounces of sweat out of the headset.
At least the foam part is very easy to take off. Hopefully it is also possible to wash it, and hopefully they start selling packs of replacements (also useful if you want to share or demonstrate the HMD).

You are creating a table tennis game. If you do that right, it's high intensity exercise :P

The Node guys use these, https://vrcover.com/shop/

I ordered the waterproof faux leather one a while ago. They said that they had confirmation from HTC that if it fit the Vive Pre it will fit the Vive CV1.

I also didn't even think about putting the sensor up my walls, i remember seeing a video where the guy just put'em on his desktop and everything worked like a charm still

I must be the only person that thinks those are the ugliest thing out there.

Probably a good idea - I find leather-like covers for earpieces on phone headsets are a lot easier to keep clean over time than foam ones.

Ordered two, thanks for the link.

Looks really nice too:

Yea was hoping to find something that is not neon green color. :(

Wow these are really nice! I am guessing the pre model will fit in the final version of vive just fine right? Haven't checked if the dimensions are any different.

They're not sensors sensors. This isn't the Rift. They're laser light emitters that have no connection to the PC, and virtually every video I've seen has either had them on the walls, ceiling, or a tripod type setup. I'm not sure how you haven't managed to see them on the walls until now...

They need to be placed in opposing or near opposing orientation on opposite corners of the play zone. Height wise, they're ideally above your height as that reduces the chance of their LOS being broken (they need to communicate) and also reduces tracking occlusion. If they can't be placed in a way to have good unbroken LOS, then you'll probably need to run a cable between them. (Timing sync signal can bounce off white walls, but I wouldn't rely on that being possible until testing in your play area confirms it.)

I think it was this one

Can't watch it in full atm, even putting one on my desk and one behind me on the other side of the room should still work i think?

The tracking arc is about 120 degrees. Putting them in opposing corners gives full room coverage. You might wind up with blind spots in other setups.

Possible blind spots and potential syncing issues. Desk placement is going to guarantee the LOS between the two will be broken by the body in room scale.

Additionally, the bounds tracking assumes the lighthouses are fixed between sessions. Anything on the desk is liable to move, however slightly. You really want those things fixed or at least somewhere they'll never accidentally be nudged. There's a reason they give wall mounts with the kit and the manual doesn't even begin to suggest placing them on a desk.
manual said:
It is recommended to mount the base stations on a high shelf, tripod, or to a ceiling or wall.
Avoid using unstable mounting accessories or surfaces that are prone to vibration.
