Salt and Sanctuary |OT| Salt for the Soul

How stingy should I be with Stone Idols? I assume there aren't any infinite sources of them (e.g. drops from respawning enemies). Any suggestions for how to use them? I'm finding it pretty hard to make decisions since I never know whether a Sanctuary is in a central location or not.

Doesn't really matter, you can portal to any Sanctuary even if it doesn't have a Guide Idol in it if you do so from a Guide, so really you just need one and a stash of horns to travel all over the place, I usually just use them as I find them. Blacksmith, Alchemist, Guide, Merchant is my favourite setup so you can pretty much do everything all in the one place.

The one you should be stingy with is the guide one, since the guides allow you to fast travel to any location, you can always get to the various other sellers if you play your cards right. That said, there's a lot of guide items out there. Generally if an area is large enough (I can tell it'll take an hour or so to get through) I used one.

Just make sure if you use a bunch of them, that you also use a scout for fast travel.

Beat 5 bosses on my first or second try last night: is it me or has the game just got a lot easier after
the Third Lamb
?

some bosses are like that then you get a reality check from others. There are two in particular that are coming your way which should be tons of fun.

Haha, that's music to my ears and personally reassuring, thank you: look forward to them!

For me the game was a cake walk after
Disemboweled Husk
, I killed the next 7 of 8 bosses in one try and the rest were under 3 tries, even the last boss was only 5 tries. That was as strength, my dex build has been somewhat harder especially in the beginning but once again I'm killing bosses very quickly. The build balance and boss difficulty progression is definitely the biggest issue with the game IMO.

My second run through is getting close to be doing done, I just killed
The Witch of the Lake
after about 50 tries of one shot, RNG bullshit! Ahem. I also killed
Murdiella Mal
for the first time as I missed her on my first playthrough. I'm probably done with the game after this run, but 40+ hours of enjoyment for £15 was a bargain, I MAY do a magic build in the future if the devs knock out some meaningful patches.

I feel stupid for asking if magic was viable, it's broken beyond repair lol. I didn't even obtain the top tier spells and I wrecked most of the bosses on my second playthrough. Got my Platinum too. Knowing the layout and the mechanics more definitely improved my opinion on some of the platforming sections. Bosses have some RNG issues unfortunately still.

The game is far from perfect but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I might even replay it a third time in a couple of months and try a hunter/thief or a cleric.

Got to the Tree of Men last night and it ruined me. Most of the Hall of Red Cages was fine, but this bastard wrecked me in seconds as soon as I got in there. May have to rework my tactics. I'm struggling against almost every boss on NG+; I wonder whether it would be better to go back through the game from the beginning using my Cleric I used to defeat The Unspeakable Deep.

You were not kidding, LOL. Last night I quickly found
the Witch of the Lake
and well, needless to say, it took me several tries to finally take her down: well, I'm glad I was wrong in thinking the game became way too easy, she's probably even my favourite boss yet.

That's what I ended up doing. But with a mage and I got all the way to the final boss on ng+ as Strength and that was a struggle the last boss is twice as hard as the others. Window to attack is tiny.

And that's me done, second playthrough finished and all optional bosses killed including The Unspeakable Deep. Overall my dex playthrough was much harder than my strength, certain bosses that I killed in one or two tries took 10+, with a couple taking ridiculous amounts of tries (20 - 30). The last boss went down on the 3rd try, though. Just FYI my first run was 20 hours, my second 15 hours.

I really enjoyed the game and I highly recommend it to anyone reading this who's still on the fence.

13 hours into the game and I still can't get the hang of platforming, there seems to be a big issue with grabbing ledges, at least for me. I can't be the only one?

Definitely died to shit like this a few times.

My friend and I played the game for about seven hours and killed maybe eight or nine bosses until we realized there is a fast travel mechanic in the game ...
At least that helped us to memorize the layout of the world.

Also the game reminds me more of Symphony of the Night than Dark Souls.

I usually pick human race for my RPG characters, but I think my favorite origin is the black demon/orc race, especially with green eyes.

Created a mage character and the one think I've noticed almost immediately is that I run out of stamina super fast. Especially when I'm swinging around a Kureimoa. And it's extra bad when I find myself at almost 30% stamina in a bossfight @_@

You can unlock energy potions that recovers stamina on the skill tree. There's also a ring that increase the used stamina for spells for 70% of your total stamina.

Ah so that's what those potion nodes are. Yeah I got the ring already.

My early game Tree of Skills goals (Up to Castle of Storms)

- Channeler Class 3 to wield "Channeler's Rod" (Already got Saltless Ashes)
- Swordfighter Class 3 to wield "Black Widow" single hand (Already got Queen of Smiles ear)
- Heavy Armor Class 2 at least
- More Stamina from everywhere

Wow, the witch of the lake was insanely hard. The difficult spike with her was intense (probably lost 20 times after one shotting the previous 4-5 bosses).

Just platted this and I am Saltborn. Hardest trophies were finding all the npc quests and knowing to exhaust conversation options with them and the alternative
dominion
ending trophy.

Congrats! I want to plat this since I need only a couple more trophies, but Enter the Gungeon stole my heart and Dark Souls 3 comes out next week. Someday...

So I think I'm at the final boss. Once you beat the game does it automatically jump you to NG+, or can you still backtrack until you are ready to finish?

You can use a bell or a calling horn to retreat and explore, but if you do uh, the action(s) after the boss, it takes you to NG+.

This, use the bell or calling horn. I was fucking pissed being instantly put into NG+ so I didn't get to do the optional bosses, got them on my second playthrough, though.

Did it fix the super jump glitch?

They've said they're keeping that in.

Oh wow, finding out that the Lantern Charm uses a weapon charm slot means I could just attached it onto my Black Widow and I don't have to rush to get to Class 3 to use it single hand with a torch!

Now I can focus on getting to Class 3 Channeler to get the.... Channeler Rod. Does enough know which line of materials it needs to upgrade? Wiki doesn't state.

That's exactly what I did with my mage too haha. As for the channeler's rod, I think it uses the Drowned path but I can't remember for sure.

I got really lucky with the Saltless in the pumpkin patch, not only did I get their ash in one run, but I also gotten the Drowned Locket x3 relatively quickly so now I'm rocking a Black Widow IV in Castle of Storms @_@

If the Channeler Rod uses Drowned as well I guess I'll have to farm a bit more.

Out of curiosity, what is your ring set up?

Holy shit I was just doing some exploring before finishing the game, and came across another new area!
Mal's FLoating Castle.
This game never ends lol.

What all carries over/doesn't carry over to NG+? There are some weapons I would like to craft,
looking at you Trinity
, but I don't want to have to farm salt/gold to craft them all right now. I just bankrupted myself buying armors at the Nomad Merchant...

Edit: Nvm found the info in the wiki
Edit 2: Holy shit, how am I supposed to afford
The Overlord's
set?!

Oh, I might be confusing it with the Black Widow then, 'cause I remembered having to upgrade something with the Drowned Tome. In that case it's probably the Charred path.

My rings are usually; Bandage Ring (permanently on every character lol), Magic Up (until I reach the diminishing returns in stats, that is), the one that reduces focus cost (forgot the name) and usually Fire and Sky (to avoid elemental imbalance). Sometimes I might swap them out for situational rings like fire resist boosts or whatnot.

Well, turns out that
the Witch of the Lake
was seemingly the exception, not the rule: took down
Carsejaw and Unskinned+Architect
in a few tries last night. Can't help feeling the game became way too easy in its second half, here's hoping at least final boss is going to be challenging enough.

I chose Mage, and if you're playing one of those get ready for a
real easy last half of the game. Last boss was hard for me, though, after steamrolling everything else

Nope, I'm playing as a Hunter, but let's hope that that turns out to be the case for my class, too.

Haven't had much time for gaming recently, but I think I've run out of steam on this and might step away for a while. I've played about 30 hours and I've enjoyed the crap out of it. but I'm away for the next couple of weeks and I've got a big backlog to play, so I'll probably concentrate on something else when I get back.

I think final bosses have become a let down in the video game industry (with exceptions of course). This game's final boss was NOT a let down. I thought it was in the top 2-3 most fun bosses in the game and the difficulty was just right.

I thought he was a little too easy, I was hoping for a two-stage boss fight - he just kind of angrily walks after you, like the Sodden Knight 2.0.

Obviously they were going for a Gwyn parallel here, but...

Most of the bosses are too easy, I'd say only 4 or 5 are challenging the rest just fall over in a try or two.

He was the third hardest boss for me...

Thanks! Yeah, I was fully into this game since launch (taking a break for the FFXV demo). Also I kind of have a problem when it comes to specific games and getting the plat.

He was the hardest for me. I think the Kraeken Wyrm might have killed me more often the first time but that's it. He's far more aggressive than Sodden Knight with longer combos, he has attacks where he rushes across the screen real fast (+ that annoying grab attack) and of course the magic missiles.

Was playing dex, btw. Killed Witch in 1 attempt. *shrugs*

So uh...

I guess I saw that coop progression bug just now. I was playing as a sellsword in my boyfriend's world and we got pretty far. Then in my own world I decided to catch up and maybe pick up the Black Pearls I wouldn't get as a sellsword, but... not only do they seemingly turn into pouches of salt in my own world anyway, I didn't get the key from beating the Alchemist so I can't progress into Sunken Keep in my own world. Weirdly enough I did get the key from the Sodden Knight, so go figure.

Maybe he can gift me the key as a host somehow... and this is what this patch note is referring to?

I just beat the game. Loved it from start to finish, well done James and Michelle!

I chose the Dominion ending don't h8

Just beat it and chose the same ending. While I had a few gripes about the game, I thought it was fantastic overall. Really impressive coming from a team of two people.

I went with a strength build and focused on Greatswords and Greathammers and most bosses went down quite quickly.

I'm ready for Dark Souls 3 on Tuesday!

13 hours into the game and I still can't get the hang of platforming, there seems to be a big issue with grabbing ledges, at least for me. I can't be the only one?

I've got this figured out. You have to plant your character's face/chin on the ledge you want to grab. If you hit with your feet, like in your video, he won't grab the ledge.

It's a little nitpicky about collision detection but it seems to work everytime now as long as I aim the chin at the ledge.

Also, bottom part of the Temple of Dust is kicking my butt. One room with three saltless in a very small area is just nasty. Between the grab attack and the volleys of projectiles I'm getting my face melted.

Same here, blindly chose the path on the right, but as soon as ending credits started rolling I regretted not going down instead: going by the trophies description, I only missed that boss down there, so I'd say that
The Nameless God
was a bit of let-down: attack patterns were easy to learn and avoid, and she totally missed a second phase, imho.
Pretty solid and fun game, though, totally enjoyed my time with it, I give it a 8.5/10, but it would have been a 9/10 wasn't the translation so ugly and didn't it become too easy in its second half: if DkS III wasn't just around the corner, I'd totally start my NG+.

also platted the game a few days ago. i missed one conversation with the
scarecrow
and had to do another run from the start. took about 5 hours. not too bad. had some trouble with the last boss but overall i had so much fun with this game. really impressive for a 2-(wo)man team.

Dark Souls 3 collector's edition is already waiting for me at home... can't wait.
