Dark Souls 3 Pre-Load on Steam is online

Awww yeah straight to SSD.

Apparently the loading times are pretty quick to begin with, so I don't know if it would benefit that much from SSD. I'd just put it in a regular HDD.

Unless you only have an SSD or if you have plenty of room left, in that case I said nothing.

Yeah, I'll install it on HDD, SSD is too fast for me. Need some time to breathe after I die.

Apologies if i missed something, but according to the Steam page it says this unlocks on April 11 in 3 days and 4 hours - so If I'm reading this correctly (and if this is accurate), we actually get to play this Monday night at 7PM EST?? NA Steam store btw...

Yes, global release.

6 PM Eastern...yes, you can play it Monday

How is that? This doesn't make sense to me. Part of the point of pre-loading is to avoid trying to download on day 1 when millions of others are too.

Steam uses an amazing content delivery network. With my gigabit connection I was able to download Fallout 4 in ~5-6 minutes. Dark Souls 3 will take even less time than that, and if I wait until after its released I won't have to wait for it to unencrypt/unpack/whatever.

If it's a big game I know I'll be playing a lot of I always try to install it on my SSD. The noises my HDD makes are too annoying when you're loading stuff often.

Durante tested this in his article.

Load times are a topic I almost forgot to mention, simply because they are so minuscule. On an SSD, I measured load times between 1.5 and 3 seconds on death or when warping between bonfires. Even on an old-school mechanical HDD, the game does not leave you waiting for long, with load times between 4 and 8 seconds depending on the area. If you want to read item descriptions, plan on doing so in the menu!

I feel like that difference is worthwhile. It transitions from "short load times" to "not even recognized" levels of speed.

Downloading to my PC as we speak. How hyped am I, GAF? So hype! The only content I've seen of the game is the announcement trailer and I'm ready to jump into these games like I always do.

anyone know what time the game unlocks?...the Amazon page says 3:00 AM EST on April 12th but the GameStop page says April 11th at 7:00 PM EST

It's downloading slowly, but it's downloading.

Btw, did anyone find a better deal than 68€ for the digital deluxe edition? Too late for me now anyway, but I'm curious.

First time I bought from Gamesplanet.com got my key literally the moment it went up for pre-load. Good stuff.

Yes. First time preordering something there and I was really surprised how fast they delivered the key. Cheaper than GMG too. Payed under 40€ for the regular edition.

I preordered the physical copy for £25 from thegamecollection (steam key included in it obviously, so great deal)

Got an email two days ago saying they can no longer supply the physical copy...so instead, I'll be sent a steam key via email on Monday for no extra charge, and I also get 10% off my next order with them

Very happy with that actually

Just mailed CDKeys when they will send out the keys, I hope sooner because of the now started pre-load stuff on Steam. I wait for their response.

It'll be on or slightly before release date.

"This product is a Pre-Order, it will be available here on or slightly before the release date of 12th April 2016."

Yeah, I've read that too, slightly before release could be on the 11th April at 8 pm or something. Need a little bit of clarification of that.

Holy shit. I just took a chance with Gamesplanet, never having heard of them before, and I literally got my key in less than a minute after purchasing the game from them (for the same as what I had paid for it at GMG).

That is what I meant, Gamesplanet is already sending out keys, so I'm curious when CDKeys will sent out theirs.

I mailed CDKeys a while ago too, here's their response:

Hi,

Thanks for your email.

Pre-order keys are normally delivered 24-48 hours before the official release date. Moreover, we'll send notifications via email once the product keys are available.

Kind Regards,

Jacqui B

Does Gameplanet have a US storefront? I was going to buy from GMG, but the 20% off voucher doesn't work on the deluxe version.

Edit: Nvm, checked the FAQ.

Can I buy from outside of Europe at Gamesplanet?

Yes, you can order our products from wherever you are in the world. The Internet has no borders for Games(planet).
If you want to know if a game has any region restrictions, you can find that out in the box with the orange border on the game's page. If there is no box, there are no restrictions. But feel free to ask us anyway - we can confirm region restrictions for each game at our website.

This game is region locked and can't be activated from Japan & North Korea.

The GMG voucher is only good on the Standard Version...not the Deluxe

GamesPlanet doesn't have a US site but if you're paying with PayPal it converts the price to USD when you're paying

Pretty good prices.

  • USD $36.46 - Dark Souls 3 Standard
  • USD $54.70 - Dark Souls 3 Deluxe

Apples and oranges, really. CD Keys has to wait for its physical copies to arrive whereas Gamesplanet receives its keys directly from Scamco.
