Dark Souls 3 PC performance thread

Locked 60fps but there does seem to be some stuttering whilst saving, and this is on an SSD so I'm not sure why.

Currently trying to figure out the best possible configuration for my Steam Controller. Having mouselook, all movement commands (run, roll, attack) on the triggers and paddles whilst keeping the familiar Souls layout is godlike.

Just in starting area. So far, pretty much 60 fps @ 4K with disable DoF, Blur and AA running on 5930K @ 4.4GHz + SLI Titans X using latest Nvidia drivers. Xbox one Elite controller works just fine.

Since I am running Gsync, I don't see a way to disable Vsync. Is it possible?

Try to force it off from the Nvidia drivers.

Game played already again with close to 60FPS (followed Durante's article to get it working) but when I killed an enemy and he dropped an item the fps went down to 13FPS and stayed there again. Suddenly.

The performance is all over the place but it is my PC's fault. The question is how can I fix it?

i5-2500k @ 3,3GHz

WIN 10

Running well here 1440p on a 980ti / 6700k, as it should be. I did seem to experience the weird stutter at high refresh rates Durante mentioned in his article, but changed my refresh to 60 and it seems to have stopped.

I'm a little disappointed the "loading grey fog" in Firelink Shrine appears to occur even on a SSD.

i5 2500K @ 4.2 GHz
GTX 670 SLI (2 GB VRAM)
8 GB RAM
Windows 10 Pro (Up to date)
Game installed on a Samsung 840 Evo SSD
Using driver version 361.72

Running at 1920x1080, V-sync on in the NVCP, framerate capped at 60 (using RTSS), all other settings on High.

The game runs poorly, with constant stutters regardless of V-sync or framerate settings. Is it because of my VRAM limitations or something else? I've made sure my PC is free of the usual issues (overheating, etc.).

You will definitely have VRAM issues playing on high.

Just tried the shield trick and no luck, game just boots me!

Also if you're running poorly and are changing settings to find no difference, i'm pretty sure it's been said you have to restart for them to take effect.

Buttery smooth except for this crashing when walking away from the bonfire. I was able to fight the first boss once.

Running great at 1440p, 60fps but I do get the strange drop now and again. Overall it seems fantastic so far.

OK. Seems like setting Lighting to LOW fixes the crash? I can stand around the bonfire on max settings with my shield out as long as Lighting is Low.

Running well here on a gtx 970/ 3770k @ 1080/60.

There is some weird hitching when I pick up an item or read a message tho. Like just for a fraction of a second the game stutters.

2500K @ 4.5 GHz
16 GB RAM
780 GTX 3GB

Runs great (when working) at a locked 1080P60 with all High settings, at least in the first area up to the very first bonfire. Unfortunately got hit with that bonfire bug that Giant Bomb and others encountered 3 weeks ago.

So far have CTD once, and the second attempt was a hard driver crash that required a system restart. Not a great start. Guess it is time to start trouble-shooting to see if all these weird "fixes" in the steam forums will work or not. Can't believe they didn't fix this issue yet.

Glad I decided to wait a few days, I seem to be reading a lot of people have some degree of issues. I can't recall DS2 launching this poorly as well, did it?

How is the performance for other i5 4670K + R9 280X users?

I can't be the only one who can't download the 100MB update right?
It works for 2 seconds and drops to 0kBps. Tried changing the data centre multiple times but same thing.

It happens to me too. Maybe something to do with the servers?

It's probably the OST.

I don't think DS2 had any issues with launch. And I can't remember any for DS1 (apart from it not being a good PC port without Durante's help).

What is the deal with all these fucking bonfire crashes. Almost every time.

I can confirm, via CyborgMatt's tip that turning lighting to low fixes the issue. At least on my rig it does. Still fucking lame but at least the game is running now.

It could use an upgrade obviously, but I figured this game might at least work? Apparently not, performance is abysmal. But it's abysmal to the point that something seems wrong. The game is running at about 3 FPS regardless of settings. Tried it windowed, on the latest drivers, nothing changes.

1 hour impressions: Runs fine on my 970. It's very pretty. Smooth 60fps, although it has hitched a few times (see below).
Game kinda hitches every now and then? It seems pretty random.

...Yeah; it's happened to me occasionally, off and on. Seems to be related to saving because I've only seen it when the "now saving" bonfire appears in the corner. Also, since I'm online, I wonder if it happens while offline?

Definitely my headset causing the framerate to drop to 5.

Got some others on the Steam forum to test it too. Clashing with some USB drivers/devices.

As I have no idea why it would do such a thing I'm off to bed.

lots of crashes on my end.

gtx 770 2gb, i5 4670k, 8gb ram.

the game runs great, mostly at 60fps on high but i'm getting random crashes.

All settings maxed and getting a locked 60fps with no dips so far. Great experience so far.

It won't let me go into Online Mode with these settings at everything maxed due to its internal detection. Not sure why that's there, but not a deal breaker for me yet.

Is anyone else getting a fog wall when trying to leave firelink shrine?

It's loading the area. Only place this happens.

Reposting here; anyone getting a weird graphical glitch with their armor. Really takes you out of the game. Everything else runs fine except this.

Playing the tutorial with an i5-2500k not OC'd and a newly installed GTX680 (gift from a friend) with 8GB RAM.

The game was running fine at the beginning (apart from the opening cutscene after character creation which kicked me due to low FPS) with about 40-50FPS but the moment I changed any setting it went to about 10FPS and stayed there every since regardless of what I do. I then get kicked with a message saying framerate too low for online play. Any tips?

I have a 430W PSU and had to buy a Molex->6 pin adapter to get the 680 working. Any idea how I can see if it gets not enough power?

Interesting, will try that too.

EDIT: Doesn't change a thing for me.

Seem to have found my issue analysing the performance with Afterburner and Rivertuner. It seems that the core clock for my graphics card will not increase to its max on occasion. So the GPU is on 99% load but with too low a core clock. Using MSI to set the clock manually fixes it. This seems to be a driver issue though I guess. Better to revert to old Nvidia drivers then.

770 2gb, 8gb ram, i5 4670k

Playing as Knight, no crashes in about an hour of play.

Turned a few settings down (though I don't know if I needed to) - High/Mediums everywhere. 58-60 fps pretty steady except new areas maybe 50. If I read a message or interact with an object and then walk away the game stutters everytime. Weird. Overall very happy with perform so far.

Forgot to mention, my performance with my 970 is based on old drivers (358.87).

Ah, bummer. That's no good.

Thanks for testing it, in any case!
I keep getting Crash to Desktop on boot. I just see a white screen before it stops responding
Weird.

When I first launched the game it sat on a white screen for an uncomfortably long time, then went to a black screen for an equally uncomfortable period, and then loaded into the normal "NAMDAI" title screen sequence and game loaded OK. I really thought it was going to crash or error out before that.

I've been getting that a lot lately, is it confirmed to be recent NVIDIA drivers? Whenever I see my gpu clock at 600ish and not move, then I know I have to reboot. ;/

Tried lowering the lighting to Low, but the game still crashes every time I kill one of the two enemies guarding the Homeward Bone shortly after the first boss.

The game crashed twice at the first bonfire and once after I opened the giant door post-first boss. Had to de-equip everything to get past the latter.

I've tried several different things, from no shield to shield, no armor to armor, to lowering some settings, etc. Still crashes at that one spot.

I was able to get to Firelink and rest there and talk to everyone, but as soon as I double-back and try to kill those two dudes guarding the Homeward Bone, it crashes. :(

What sucks is the game is running fine otherwise with my i5-3570K overclocked to 4.5GHz and my Radeon 7950.
