Dark Souls 3 PC performance thread

I5-4690k, GTX 970 here. Running at 1080p, I'm usually hitting 60 fps on high settings, no huge jitters or crashing so far. The only glitch I've seen is that during character creation my character model would suddenly freeze, and I wouldn't be able to change the camera angle or view any more changes. I backed out to the start menu and it reset it just fine, but it was weird. I'm playing on Windows 7 with a DS4 using DS4Windows, so far no major issues with that either.

Would my rig (i7-4790K and GTX970) be able to handle 60fps 1080p on Max settings, or would I be better off leaving it on the default High settings?

4790k, 8gb RAM, 980 Ti @1440p w/ max settings and getting 60fps always unless it's doing that weird saving stutter.

Same rig and I've had no issues running at Max. There are occasional fps dips when the game auto-saves but most people seem to be experiencing that.

Cashing non stop every time I run up to this bonfire. Display driver stops working. Went and downloaded newest drivers but it's doing the same thing...

Running driver 361.75 on a 980ti.

The rest of my specs are a i52500k @4.5ghz, 8GB RAM and Windows 10.

Butter smooth 60fps (Max settings) with minor stutters at save points and when I pick up random items (doesn't do it for all). No issues here in terms of crashing at the bonfires, etc.

Loving it! I played through to the Firelink Shrine and just a little past that point.

290X...I've had stuttering...I thought it was when some of the item popups came up when looting...could be the saving

2 hours in and that save stutter already got on my nerves.

Good Lord. Still updating. Have to be up @ 5am to teach. My students are going to wonder why I'm so cranky. Dark Souls is the only lesson today, kids.

in case someone else has the same setup as I do, its 60fps @ 1080p everything at ultra

i5-3570k @4.2ghz
gtx 780 dcu2 OC
8gb ram

the only moment I have seen the game fps dip is when I quit a merchant menu.

A little disappointed this game doesn't run better.

I can run 1440p30 locked MGSV at max settings, but not this :(

Can get close but some areas just dives the performance. Having fun though back on 1080p :)

For whatever reason I can't play the game at all with a controller. I've tried XBONE (using native drivers) and DS4 (using DS4Windows) and whenever I move the analog the FPS tanks.

It plays at a fairly steady 60fps if I use mouse and keyboard though, which I'm slowly getting used to. They did a good job with the MKB controls in this release.

Hm, my i7 with a GTX 970 runs this game on low with 80°C.

I've read that temperature is fine (?), but I am surprised at how the game can't keep 60 fps with higher settings.

Has anyone tried using the DS4 without DS4Windows? Does it have native support?

I know a lot of people seem to always have DS4Windows on without checking to see if it works without it.

Thought I'd upload the first boss, so spoilers obviously. You can see Fraps is almost always at 60fps, and that's while recording at 1080p/60fps with OBS. I couldn't be happier with the performance, they just need to fix the save/freeze issue and the crash issue (which I haven't experienced but people are going crazy about it in the reviews).

Which i7 at what speed? My 970 is running at 60fps on high/max while recording, you shouldn't have an issue with the game at 1080p.

Has anyone found a way to lock at 30fps that doesn't make the game look like it's skipping frames?

it's really weird. I think it might be an engine bug.

i7 2600 (3.4 GHZ), 8GB RAM, 980 Ti, Windows 10 and on an SSD,

For the most part it runs at a constant 60 FPS (on 1440p), but I've noticed it hitch up and freeze for a second here and there. I notice it when I enter a new area. Sometimes the hitches last 2-3 seconds. Tried going from Max settings to High but am still receiving the random hitches.

Gah, very disappointed in the performance :( ... to be absolutely clear I'm not meeting their minimum spec. I have my trusty i5-3570K and 16GB of RAM, so okay there. But I have a 560Ti, not a 750Ti. The cards are really not that much difference performance wise, and normally I do not have any problems. I'm not crazy and expecting miracles, I went in expecting 720p everything set low/off. I have 1GB VRAM vs 2GB, so I have the textures set to "low". I figure this should be "ok" because at 1080p high quality textures the game is set to use 1.6GB VRAM.

That's what I'm running, but it's very poor. The starting area right at spawn (I assume due to the fog?) was 12-14 fps. So bad it kicked me out of the game to disable online mode.

Afterwards, the steam FPS counter says 22-30 which is what I was expecting, but I can't believe the game is actually playing at that rate. Everything I do feels like my character is pushing through mud. I managed to beat the first boss, but I wouldn't say it was pretty.

I know the 560Ti has got to go, but I'm waiting for Pascal, I can't afford to buy two video cards this year simply due to one game. I was expecting it to be slow, but not terrible, not after I played through all of Witcher 3 in 720p and most other details on (high textures) at 50+ fps.

A bit of extra tweaking to the graphicsconfig.xml file, and now that I'm running in glorious 816x510 my poor 560Ti can manage 45-50 fps, 60fps in some select few places. It still takes huge dives down to 16-18 in certain areas. every single other thing set to low, of course ;)

If you ever wondered what Dark Souls 3 may have looked like if it was released as a 360 game, feast your eyes!

i'm playing with 50-60fps on 720p but often i get massive fps drops to around 30, mainly on Firelink Shrine. Crashed a couple times as well.

This card is close to mine in terms of performance, I can't even get close to this FPS in 720p, it must be the extra VRAM doing it? :(

Getting 60fps at 1080p, max settings and motion blur off.

GTX 970
i5 6600k
16GB ddr4 ram at 2,4Ghz

No crashes in the tutorial area, but the hitches (drops to 40s) when looting corpses or when the game saves, are noticable.

I have an i7 2600 and 970 and my temps are in the 50's while playing at a mix of high and max 1080p.

Try restarting your computer, that's one thing I had to do to get steam overlay to work and it runs smoother. Though that could have been because I just updated drivers as well.

Game hasn't crashed since setting lighting to low (and playing windowed but I don't know if that has an effect).

The 30fps cap seems to hold on my 2GB 760 (VRAM usage is bumping right up on 1900MB though, in 1080p) but there are occasional lag spikes. Sometimes when I turn the camera it'll go down to 20fps for a second. If it matters the game is installed on an SSD on Windows 10.

One question: why don't PC developers indicate some kind of recommended amount of VRAM for each texture setting? As I understand it resolution and texture quality are the two main things dependent on VRAM. I think Rockstar PC games indicate how much VRAM you're using up right in the settings screen, and Shadow of Mordoer has some kind of "6GB of VRAM recommended for max textures" warning.

If anyone has figured out a good balance to achieve 60 on a 2GB 760 it would be great to know how you did it. I'm not holding my breath though. Christ Pascal can't get here soon enough.

I already posted it in the Pre-load thread, but got no answer. Does anyone know if my PC will be able to run it? :/

Is the PS4/X1 version an option? I doubt 1GB VRAM would be sufficent for low settings even at 1440x900.

I have a GTX 480/i7 870 (2.93 GHz) and it's practically unplayable, unfortunately. Comparing our specs...it seems you'll suffer the same fate. (I got virtually the same performance no matter how low I put my settings.)

i5 6600K (not overclocked yet)
MSI R9 390
16 GB DDR4 2400MHZ

Windows 10

I set it to max but turned off motion blur and turned shadows down to high. Running great on 1440p. Seems like it's maintaining 60fps for the most part. A few rare dips to 55-58. Had a moment where it dropped to 45 for a second, not sure what that was. I haven't checked temperature on anything yet.

This is just going through the very beginning and that first boss. If that's even a boss at all. It has a health bar so I'll call it a boss. I've read that this game has its own "Blighttown" at some point so we'll see how that goes. No crash at the bonfire or anywhere else yet. Wired 360 controller working perfectly,

First truly new game I've tried since I got this PC and I'm impressed.

trying to get my DS4 to work on PC

pls assist ;_;

i can offer a little help maybe. get the ds4windows, plug in controller with usb, download 360 controller drivers from microsoft if u dont have, start it up, tick the hide ds4 (third tab) before u start steam. mines worked well until this game, i had to delete some controllers like wii mote from control panel. idk if thats what did it but its working well now.

Yeah, I have a PS4. I can get it, but PC version is cheaper and free online, so I kinda prefer it even if I can't run it at max setting. :/

I played TW3 on PC, albeit at very low setting.

Got a 970 an 4790k setup here and it's cooking the crap out of my system as well. Gpu and cpu.

Excellent game runs decently enough on my old rig at high settings:
2500k @ 4.0, 16gb ram, gtx 680.
Only real problem I am coming across is the game will crash if I die... No idea why. Runs fine then I die get back to the bonfire and crash. Makes me extremely paranoid not to die now.

Core i7 3770K @ 4.4 GHz
16 GB DDR3 Ram
2x GTX 670 2GBs

With the SLI profile I have everything set to the highest setting save for Textures. I have that set to High and I'm getting a pretty consistent 60fps so far. I'm only at the High Wall of Lothric though.

Man, I have to say this game is beyond beautiful. Screenshots and videos just don't do this game justice. The geometry, the art direction, the lighting...beautiful! My jaw dropped when I first walked through the doors at the High Wall bonfire. Also, having the game run at 60fps takes the experience from awesome to breathtaking.

Edit: I do get some temporary framerate judder/lower fps when I arise from teleporting to a different bonfire. I also get slight slowdown when moving right after reading a message. These slowdowns are minor and for the most part temporary. I assume the bonfire teleport slowdown is due to textures loading in.

Only issue I've had is r1 attack not working, restarting the game fixed it. Flawless otherwise, no stutter, locked 60, no crashes yet 5 or so bonfires in.

1440p maxed, forced 60hz refresh, forced off vsync, 364.72 nvidia driver, ssd install.

Your card is even a bit worse than my 560Ti and I have to make a lot of sacrifices to run the game. 816x510 for a stable (40+) framerate, everything set to "off" and if can't be off it is "low". It's very far removed from a pretty game, but at least I can play it considering I just spend $70 CAD. It is really the 1GB of VRAM I think that kills it, because people with comparable systems to mine but a 750Ti instead of 560Ti (almost the same card but 2GB vs 1GB VRAM) are getting much better framerates in 720p, with details. To be fair, 750Ti is the minimum for the game, and I'm below that. I can run in 720p everything low, but I don't break 30fps and there are plenty of times where I am sub-20fps.

Ffs!

No Steam cloud saves on this game....... god dammit.

Wanted to continue playing on my laptop, but my save from my desktop didn't get moved over god damn lol.

I guess I'll have to look for a way to do it manually for now, that sucks.

I don't know how you can bear it. I've been spoiled by how good DS2 looked and ran on PC.
