Dark Souls 3 PC performance thread

Game's been running pretty good for me so far. I get occasional stutter, which might be auto-save related based on what other people are saying.

My biggest issue so far is an annoying audio glitch that happens more or less constantly. Any time I stand still, the ambient audio gets louder. Then it cuts down to zero when I move or open a menu, etc. Pretty strange.

i5 4690k 3.5ghz
R9 390 8g
8gb ram

40-50 FPS in first area, absolutely no difference between low or max settings.
Is that normal? I guess not.

Game keeps crashing for me due to a not enough memory error. I tried other games on Steam and they all run fine. Does anybody else have this problem?

Played quite a bit already..So far not even a single issue performance wise, no crashes at all and no audio issues. I can't be this lucky based on what I'm reading around.

I did and it was solved by increasing my virtual memory allocation to minimum 2048 and maximum 4093. I don't know why it's 4093 and not 4096 but I just did what the post told me.

Yeah I was a bit disappointed at just how bad it is running, though at least it has been crash free. Parts of the beginning area ran at 60, but the majority a wildly hitchy, fluctuating 15-40fps. Auto-detect set everything to high, which is laughable given how poorly it performs. I'll muck around with it a little more after work today, see if I can eek out better performance.

But I'm determined now to grab a new Skylake PC. Even if I just pair it with a 380 to tide me over to the newer GPUs.

I tried playing again at lunch for about 30 min. I had my computer in sleep mode from last night when I was getting 60fps consistently. I tried using my steam controller and I was getting 30 fps with a lot of studder. I would exit the game a start over, same issue. I tried switching to Xbox controller still the same issue. I finally restarted my computer and used the Xbox controller and I was back to 60fps smooth as silk. I getting about 70% on each of my cards with the default crossfire profile.

I will try one card in a bit.

My 390 has been hard crashing my PC recently. As soon as it hits around 85c it just dies. Have spoken to MSI about an RMA. In the meantime just picked up a 390x and I'll send it back when my 390 is back.

Such a shame I was really enjoying the 30 odd minutes I managed to play.

using a 7950 w/ a i5 4670 3.4 ghz on 1080p. Seems to run fine at medium setting/low everything else. Not quite 60 fps at all times, so if anybody got any further tweaks. I'd appreciate it

Weird issue.

I'm sometimes seing small colored pixels/dots on the screen. They're mostly green, but sometimes blue. Not typical GPU artifacting either, it looks almost like a particle effect that's completely misplaced.
Maybe not typical GPU artifacts, but it still sounds like GPU artifacts more than anything else.

So is this buggy as fuck or what? Still deciding where to get it.
It worked well for a 5 hour session for me and the 2 friends I play with just now. You can apparently get unlucky and get crashes, but it's still not clear what exactly the cause is.

Started it up and played for 6 hours straight, no problems, silky smooth aside from 0.1sec stutter when saving (pretty rare, so i guess not every time). Default Herald attire.

Fresh Win10 x64 install
GTX 980 364.72
2500K locked @ 4.5
8GB
Game on SSD

Didn't touch the graphics options at all, think it set them on High

i7 6700
GTX 970
16gb RAM

Have been working flawlessly and haven't encountered any crashes or hiccups apart from the minor stutter during saving. It's good thou since its my first game so when I die its the stutter's fault..

Gtx670 (2gb), 8 gig ram, i5 3570K. I'm super pleased with performance so far! Everything on high (except lighting on low) and I'm getting 45-50fps average, with occasional dips.

I'm not experiencing the save stuttering, no audio issues, no issues of any kind really! I did change the lighting from low to high, and the game crashed maybe 2 minutes later heh. Changed it back, no issues since.

I'm so happy I went with PC over console for this game!

i5 4670k
GTX 970

Using Steam Controller
It all works great. Game has been perfect running with no crashes in 5 hours of play with max settings. It's truly amazing to see this engine at 60 fps. If only we could have Bloodborne. Looks so much better than DS1 and DS2 to me but I'm still early so not sure how all the areas compare to the other games.

Has anyone using a ds4 with a bluetooth adapter had issues with the controller becoming non-responsive ? I am about 4.5 hours in and the controller has stopped responding on 3 occasions.
Each time it happened I closed the game and restarted it and the issue was fixed.
This makes me think it may be the game and not the bluetooth adapter but I am not sure.
The bluetooth adapter is a Broadcom BCM20702.

OKAY. This sounds ridiculous and it's a wall of text, but bare with me. If you're using an Xbox controller and are getting stuttering and lag, try this. I tried to put it in as layman's terms as possible.

Go into your Device Manager and scroll to the bottom. Update your Xbox 360 Controller drivers, and click "Browse my computer for driver software." On the next screen, click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer." You should see three options of "Xbox 360 Controller for Windows Version:" Click on the bottom one (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows Version: 2.1.0.1394 [8/13/2009]) and click Next. If you get a "This Operation Requires an Interactive Window Station" error, keep reading. Otherwise, reboot your computer and you're good.

If you got that error, you'll need to make sure you're signed in as an administrator, and go to your File Explorer. Navigate to "C:\Windows\System32" and right click on the folder called 'drivers', then click 'Properties'. In the Properties window, go to the 'Security' tab and click 'Advanced'. Where it says "Owner", click 'Change' and in the big text box, type your user name (your account name, e.g. mine's Duncan) and click the "Check Names" box. Then click OK. Check the box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects" and then click OK. Back in the Properties window, click "Edit..." and in the new window that popped up, click "Add...". Type your user name in the box again, click "Check Names", then click OK. Find your name in the 'Permissions' window, under "Group or user names:" and click on it. In the "Permissions for (your user name)" box, check the "Full Control" box and click OK. Click OK again. Now repeat this process for the folder called 'DriverStore'. Once that's finally finished, go back and go into your Device Manager and try again. It should work this time. If it doesn't, reboot and try updating the drivers again. If it still doesn't work, then let me know and I'll try to help you.

So, long story short, Dark Souls 3 doesn't like the latest Xbox 360 Controller for Windows drivers, and makes the game unplayable if they're active. So for some reason, the ones from 2009 are fine. You can't make this shit up, and it makes literally no god damn sense, but it really does fix it.

What's the cpu and gpu usage? Are the drivers updated? Check the temps as well, your cpu or gpu might be throttling.

darksoulsiii_2016_04_y0jkz.png

I updated the drivers and the performance is still the same no matter what settings I use.

Running pretty good here with an i7 4770, 16GB RAM, R9 270 (2GB VRAM), and an SSD (waiting at least until Pascal/Polaris are out to even consider getting a new GPU). No crashes or anything, the only issue I've had is the ocassional small stutter when it autosaves. I'm using the high preset and the average FPS is in the low 40s, with it varying from 35-50 (I tried lower settings, but the best I could do is get the average up to the high 40s, and I like shadows and SSAO too much to just turn them off). Normally when I play a game where I can't reach 60 FPS I'll cap it to 30, but I gave leaving it uncapped a shot, and for whatever reason it doesn't bother me in this game.

Running fairly smooth on 660 ti after drivers. Playing on a mix of low-high settings at 1080. Seems to be staying around 50fps most of the time. Only issues are: I had two crashes at the
second undead settlement
bonfire.
Firelink
gives me the worst framerate out of any area so far. Not really sure what's going on there.

I really hope something happens to help out performance though, patch or mod. It's a pretty game, but I still don't feel like this should be as resource intensive as it is.

970 gtx sli heavy oced
i7 4790k @4.6 ghz
32 gb ram
playing at 3200x1800 smooth 60 fps, but sometimes there are some drops that goes back up to 60 fps real quick but it's really annoying, i tried it with 1440p and 1080p as well and i still get these minor drops as well.

Played for about 40 minutes yesterday, no issue, now the game won't even boot for me anymore. This is distressing...

Win 10
AMD FX 8350
AMD Radeon R9 290

Sucks so many people are having problems. The only problem I've noticed on my machine is very very short (like half a second) pauses when there's data being saved and it's not all the time. I've played 13+ hours so far.

Performance is at 60 FPS all the time max settings (Motionblur off) at 1440p with a 980 Ti and an i7 6700.
I still think the game's underperforming a bit though going by the utilisation of the hardware resources.
The low FOV makes this unplayable. I wonder why they changed it so drastically (since DS2 i.e.)?

I noticed this too when I started playing but I must have gotten used to it now.

Man the first few areas were so good. No dropped frames. Then this area right before
Vordt
I was dropping frames like crazy. Doesn't matter if I am on low or high either, drops in the same spots.

I have a GTX 770 which I know isn't super strong, but still. Not being able to get solid 60fps with no drops on low with this card seems kinda crazy. Is there anything I can do?

Oh so that's the problem I have. Just tried playing with kb and mouse and game runs fine. I'll try this tomorrow.

I know it''s different on WIndows 10 though as you can no longer select driver versions from the device manager for whatever reason.
edit: seems like reinstalling the drivers fixed this so nvm.

Running on i5-4460 and gtx 760, I'm getting 50 to 60fps with everything on low to medium and textures on high. Encountering some really weird framerate drops and stutters though

So is this buggy as fuck or what? Still deciding where to get it. Is DS4 working correctly yet?

I've put in ~9 hours and have experienced 0 crashes or other issues with no tweaks done on my side. I've played with DS4 (wired and using DS4Windows) and my wired 360 pad (showing as HID-compliant game controller in Device Manager) and all has been flawless, except for dips whilst saving. Otherwise, I'm running Ultra @ 1920x1080@60 FPS.

i5-4690k @ 3.5
Win 10 Pro
16GB DDR
970 GTX (364.72)
SSD

It's the best launch experience I've had with a Souls game, and it's better than a lot of other PC games are, even after they get quite a few patches.

Seems like some people have no problems at all and others have issues ranging from bugs like having the character frozen in the character creator or missing floor textures to having crashes or constant stutter.

Many people complains about issues so I guess that there is definitively something wrong and they will need to patch the issues. Anyway even with those issues I would still go for the PC version. Fixes always find a way, officially or not.

No hard complains, runs great, no crashes or d/c. At boss 3 ATM.

Only 2 bad things; a single 980ti cant handle 4k at 60, if I try the frame rate is very erratic.
Some times when saving it freeze but a quarter of a sec. Thats it.

Running at a constant 60fps after updating my drivers and using the optimal settings (seems to be a mix it high and max) on my 970/2500k combo.

Only annoyance is the hitching while saving, grabbing items, etc.

Very solid performance for a souls game, imo. 60fps, you have been missed.

Don't think so, I got 60fps on high except no DOF and low blur. Yours should be similar.

I5-4690
290X
16GB RAM
850 EVO.

Is the 980ti able to do 4k @60 fps in modern detailed games? (I really don't know, would be surprised if it is able)

The Division (playing with settings), Company of Heroes 2, Dota 2, CS, Spintires.

Those are the game I play the most and they all go to 60.

You can, I'm on Windows 10. Glad it worked for you though. :)

Are the crashes an Nvidia thing or both?

For people having abnormal performance issues I would suggest uninstalling drivers, booting safe mode and using DDU(Display Driver Uninstaller) especially with AMD cards. I think it was suggested when the crimson drivers came out. It can't hurt at any rate.

FX 8320 R9 380 4gb here. After the game crashing to a black screen forcing me to hard reset the computer some dozen times, i uninstalled the latest Crimsom drivers, and rolled back to the last Catalyst driver thera was, 15.11. Been playing for 4 hours straight with no issues (Except the lower framerate because of outdated drivers).

Just throwing this out here in case someone was crashing like crazy like me.

It's on my list of things to try this afternoon. Thanks for the reminder.

Outside of the auto-save stutter, the game had run flawless until just now. All of the sudden the camera went crazy and spun around my character at high speed. Ended up getting killed because of it.
