The moment it releases. Paradox never puts anything up for preorder. Probably to maximize Steam chart placement as all the day 1 people purchase it at the same time.

I'm from the future and can confirm that we're about to get a full blown demo released this coming weekend. Also, they will announce an additional Hearts of Iron 4 delay.

Today, Paradox Interactive announced that Hearts of Iron 4 will not be releasing before Christmas. Staff member Dan 'Podcat' Lind went on record saying "I always felt we tried to go a bridge too far".

Watching some of these streams, I am surprised just how much they are still willing to tweak and adjust in the system mechanics this close to release. The beginning of one of the Blorg videos had the borders completely reshift due to it being a more recent version of the game that calculated them differently. Looking at this positively I guess it does mean that the game is stronger overall for being more finely tuned, although on the negative side it does partly explain why Paradox games are infamous for being a little buggy at release. Hopefully any oddness in Stellaris at release is minimal and patched out quickly.

Nova edition seems like the sweet spot at $50. $20 more on top of that for the eBook and and behind the scenes book seems like a bit much.
