Almost willing to bet that Ice Climbers will be in Smash NX. Let's speculate

Brand new content is pretty much guaranteed. Hear me out.

In the worst possible scenario where we only have Smash Wii U with all the DLC included, well, that means the seven DLC newcomers would now be part of the base game. As such, they don't have the excuse of being DLC characters to lack custom moves, or their own Challenges and Events. Those would be added at least.

Now, this is Sakurai we're talking about. As IntelliHeath and others have pointed out in the past, the man has ran a marathon's worth of extra miles. I don't see him stopping now. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Street Fighter and Final Fantasy (VII) saw more representation in the form of music and trophies to be on par with the other third parties.

The main purpose of putting Smash on the NX would be to entice those who skipped the Wii U, buuuut by the end of 2015, 4.61 million had bought the Wii U version, and you can't tell me Nintendo wouldn't love as many of those sales as possible to double-dip. Doing the barest minimum isn't going to achieve any excitement with those who already own this gen's installment.

Thus, new content to entice newcomers and veterans alike. It plays perfectly to Sakurai's philosophies, Nintendo's interest and the players' wishes. Mark my words, this ain't gonna be no mere port.

Kalos Pokémon League will have an additional form called Nomega Form.

In this form no mega Pokémon will appear in the background.

Luckily none appeared to begin with so it wasn't hard to implement this option.

You're one of GAF's brightest treasures.

Another thing I miss is the post-battle "awards", stuff like Pratfaller, Twinkle Toes, KO Master, Switzerland and all that

My thought was that a contract was made early on before they could get to the point to make an NX version.

I wouldn't doubt not seeing Cloud for instance, because the contract was only for DLC or something dumb like that.

You might be right about that but I have a lingering feeling about the contracts (or license agreements) with 3 DLC characters might have some kind of future version in their clause. I don't know why. Also they probably spoke to Capcom (Ryu) and SEGA (Bayonetta) again about Mega Man and Sonic being in Smash Bros, and also they are teaming up with Namco-Bandai again for Smash NX. Also Square-Enix and Nintendo are on friendly good term right now so it's plausible that we wouldn't see any cuts.

I really hope all 6 third party characters are going to be back in Smash NX.

If they did port Smash 4, I wonder if they would port the contents of both versions. Having all the stages from both could be a selling point.

Doubt it would happen, since they were probably all made for the 3DS and they would have to be entirely remade with new assets for NX.

Hence why I think they'll do some rather than all.

Probably the most likely "bone" they could throw.

Anyone that wants Ice Climbers back can be friends with me. I LOVE Smash 4 and while Olimar has become my new main, I'd really love my first true main back. DO IT.

The Bonus Points? I loved those to death. If I had it my way, not only those would have stuck in the series, but they would have expanded upon them, with the inclusion of character-specific Bonus Points. Stuff only X or Y character could do and the game would recognize and acknowledge that you did.

Aaaah, if only. Game is already incredible as it is, but what I wouldn't give for those to come back.

It's going to be a straight Wii U port with all the DLC. Anything beyond that is wishful thinking.
Ice Climbers suck anyway. Good riddance.

I still taunt at the point of a KO to get those 500 Fighter Stance points.

Smash NX should bring back the mode where you win based on score.

Sound like someone got whooped by Ice Climbers pretty bad. ;)

If they do add more characters I think I speak for almost everyone by saying: NO MORE FIRE EMBLEM CHARACTERS.

I think Sakurai felt same on that stance because he was unsure about Corrin's inclusion due to numbers of representatives. Corrin was great addition since the move set is super fun to play with.

Exactly. Sakurai always push himself to the limit when it come down to the franchises he beloved.

As I already repeated, Expect for the WORST BUT HOPE FOR THE BEST. I wouldn't be disappointed if we actually get 1:1 straight port but I'm not sure if I would pick up the game because most of my friends are planning to stick with Wii U if it's in case.

HAHAHA at anyone expecting the NX version not to have new characters. Nintendo consistently amazes me with their stupidity, but there's absolutely no way they don't push out the new version with at least one new character. Bookmark me

At least for a good while. My problem isn't so much the amount of characters but that they're all sword users. Not one straight magic, axe, or spear wielder. The next FE addition needs to be different than what we have now, which makes me think Lyn has even less of a chance from stepping up from Assist Trophy.

Intel's already pointed this out, but we shouldn't be so sure on whether we're getting new characters or not.

Sakurai is very unpredictable. We all thought we'd get Wolf and Inklings as the last DLC characters and yet he proved us wrong. Nobody saw Cloud coming. I just think it's too early to be certain on things. We could get new characters, we could not, we'll just have to wait and see. I think it's good to be neutral or 50/50 on it.

That's really the problem with all the FE characters. But they aren't going to put a character that isn't a lead/lord in. So that limits their options tremendously. There's Hector, who is from an old game now and would be a weird addition. And then Ephraim and Micaiah, and nobody cares about those two at all (well, Micaiah might be cared about in the sense that she is actively disliked). Not to mention they are also "outdated."

The next FE lord needs to be a non-sword user by default, then maybe Fire Emblem in Smash can be more than Blue Haired Swordsmen + Roy.

Nintendo has a lot of 2016 games to catch up on. I'm curious to see if the NX version will acknowledge them. After all, the base game patched in stuff from 2015 games (Mario Maker stage, trophies from FE Fates and Splatoon) and despite its lengthy development had plenty of 2014 games repped at launch.

Star Fox Zero, New Zelda, and Pokemon Sun and Moon are practically begging to be represented in some form, though I'm keeping my expectations in check and thinking a stage from Zelda and then Poke Ball and music/trophies from the others are the most there'll be. Though if there is a brand-new character, Pokemon seems like a logical first choice... after Inklings of course.

This is a really easy way to set yourself up for disappointment. How many fighting games have had ports with exclusive DLC? The PS4 port of USF4 had DLC afterwards, but even then, it was also available on other consoles.

Repeat recipient of a chain grab+blizzard/pummel combo probably

Nintendo probably isn't really concerned about them because from their perspective it's a party game. And extra content is a good way to make people care about the port.

I'm excessively pessimistic, but porting Smash with no extra content would be pointless. Especially if "Smash 4 NX" is the NX's only Smash game (which I think is likely, but most seem to disagree).

I think a lot of people have the impression that in a best-case scenario, this will be less "port" and more "Smash 4.5", and that a good chunk of the new content (if not all) will be right there at launch. Like how Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX on PSP had four exclusive characters.

Plus the Wii U and 3DS will be dead by the time NX is out and we already know development has wrapped on them Smash-wise, so it won't really sting that much.

I wouldn't say Nintendo, but more so Sakurai. Nintendo has sponsored Evo and even had the Smash Invitationals prior to release.

Oh, that's definitely what it is. I just like to dream the lesser known characters from older games have a chance. They really should bring some more of them into the roster to expose people to them and their respective games. A dream, I know.

There have been plenty of fighting game ports with exclusive characters prior to DLC. Guile in Alpha 3, Ingrid and some others in Alpha 3 MAX, Justice and Kliff in some versions of Guilty Gear XX, etc.

Smash (Sakurai) clearly plays by its own rules regardless of what other fighting games do, though.

You can extend this to Nintendo as a whole :P

Hell, there's even another Namco fighting game, Soulcalibur II, that had an exclusive character depending on which console you got it for, and Soulcalibur IV did something similar (either Darth Vader or Yoda is on disc, and the other is DLC).

Fighting games have always thrown in exclusive content to sweeten the deal on rereleases and ports (especially arcade to console ports, but even on console-to-console ones too). In fact I'd argue that strengthens why this likely won't be just a straight port. Nintendo knows how the characters generate the most excitement, attention, and thus sales out of any aspect of Smash. Just look at how each reveal trailer for 4 got millions of hits, and generates thousands of news articles and shared links. The data is there.

But yeah, as Heath says, hope for the best, brace for the worst.

Don't expect Snake to somehow make it in though. Despite David Hayter nailing his old-school voice in the recent Ford commercial Konami will still ignore Smash.

Corrin and Robin are pretty unique though, despite using swords.

Ephraim or Hector would be awesome though, but sadly highly unlikely. We need a proper Fire Emblem Soul Calibur to get those guys to shine.

I'm not expecting much. Port of smash 4 with DLC and some minor stuff.
Would make Smash 4 NX easy to skip for me.

Of course. The main thing that sells another Smash is more characters.
So. If they want people to double dip. They might add more.

Ice Climbers and Splatoon inklings seem the most obvious inclusions.
and the most wanted for me.

You know what character I think they should add? Iwata! He could create random pixelated video-game bits to shoot, and game consoles to throw.

What about Anna? She's in all of the games as tutorial/menu lady. And she's a playable character in Awakening, right (haven't played 13/14 yet)?

Nah, I never liked the idea of having real life people like Iwata or Reggie playable in Smash (outside of Mii Fighters of course). Dunno, I don't want to beat up a realistic looking Iwata, especially since, you know....

FTFY

If in the event a port happens.

The most realistic scenario is a direct port of Smash U and nothing else.
Less realistic but still possible is a hybrid of Smash U and 3DS content with some new stages and modes added. Using Wii U as the basis for songs and 8-player.
Least realistic is the above scenario alongside new characters and DLC support.

I dunno, IS better announce another FE soon if you want there to be more characters!

Original joke do not steal.

I'm so ready to get excited to play a port on a new Nintendo console! I just know the graphics will look identical and frame-rate unchanged! So KEEEN!!!!

I have a feeling the development team has already been disbanded and that the game will remain untouched so that the WiiU and NX can have the same online communities.

but I'll probably rebuy it even if they only ported the 3DS stages to the WiiU version.
