Would someone kindly flip a coin for me to decide the gamma setting for my AOC G2460PG? Gamma1 is too blown out, and Gamma3 is too dark (Gamma2 is the more blown out than Gamma1). I am agonizing over this decision!

Just got the HP deal with the 980Ti.
I need a monitor.
Narrowed it down to a Acer Predator G-Sync 1980 or aNon G-Sync ASUS IPS 2560.
What does GAF say???
I am leaning towards higher resolution myself, but if I can be convinced the G-Sync is the better purchase, feel free.
And if people can answer in the next hour so I can order in time to have it arrive on Monday that would be ideal.
Believe me I would love to but that is half the price of the computer I purchased itself. Wife is already not super happy I am looking at $400+ monitors. So it has to be one of the ones I posted or something similar in price. Believe me, I would love this one. Just can't do it.Why not both?
I've got this one, and it's amazing on both levels. Both G-sync and 1440p are noticeable bumps.. having them together? Awesome.
Okay I am going to go with a G-Sync it looks like.
I have narrowed it down to 2 Acer's.
The Acer Predator XB241H for $386
or
The Acer XB240H for $445
Not going to lie, I like the look of the second one, the XB240H better.
However if what I am reading correctly, the first one, the 241H, is the latest revision of the monitor? It is also less expensive. So if it is the better revision of this model, I suppose I can live with this ugly ass feet LOL
Damn. You are not making this easy.Dude...
If you're gonna go with a TN panel, you might as well get the Dell 27" S2716DG - Currently $490 (was $600 when I bought it in Dec)
It's a 27" 2560x1440 144hz G-Sync monitor. I returned my Asus PG279Q for this when it first came out. I don't care that it's a TN panel since I bought it for gaming, and it looks incredible. If you can afford to pay a little bit more, go with the Dell.
edit: i should note that this monitor doesn't have speakers, so take that into consideration before you purchase. other than that, it's great.
Damn. You are not making this easy.
Would you believe me if I told you I just think 27" is too big?
I know, I know, no such thing, but this is a very traditional on a desk setup I am rocking, and my current (older) monitor is a 27" one, and perhaps it is the older technology and/or perhaps it is just the technology with the 1080p resolution, but I feel like it is too big in size and I am losing out on seeing the whole picture because it is too big. So I feel like 24" is the sweet spot.
But I can easily be told I am dead wrong and the extra 3 inches are worth it and it will look better than my current monitor because it is a higher resolution.
Other thing to note. I saw this monitor earlier and dismissed it as I did not think it was a G-Sync monitor since it does not mention it in the description itself. But looking over the specs I see it indeed is.
Damn. This could be the winner. It may very well be worth the extra bit of anger my wife will have for spending this much LOL
Or there is always Option B.
I live with my current monitor and wait for something to go on a good sale. Although I get the feeling this Dell is not going to get much better anytime soon.
Yup. I actually ran the numbers on the new monitor versus the old one, and pixel density was about the same between them, but with a bigger screen! Plus it lets me sit at a comfortable distance and not feel like I'm too far away to see things.Personally I think 27" is too big for a 1080p monitor but if you want 1440p 27" is the sweet spot!
Think I am going to pull the trigger on the Dell. Very close. This may seem like a silly question but I have to ask. What type of FPS can I expect on that Dell with a 980Ti at native resolution?
Also does GSync rely on one's PSU at all? Reason I ask is my new PC is the HP one people may have seen the thread for and it only came with. 500W PSU. Clearly it is suffice enough for the computer itself but I just want to verify that somehow the PSU does not come into play when utilizing GSync itself. Logic tells me it should not but I just want to be sure.
I am going to check the responses to my questions first thing when I wake up tomorrow and as long as I read I can get at least 60 FPS at native resolution (2560) and the PSU will be fine I am going to pick up the Dell even though my wife is going to not be happy at all. It really does just seem like the best bang for the buck and TN is fine with me. This PC is 110% meant for gaming so response time and input lag does trump all.
TIA and also thanks for the previous replies.

Why not both?

Damn, I didn't know that Dell had 144hz/g-sync. Why is it like 200 bucks less than the swift rog? That seems like a really good deal, just wish it didn't have what looks like a heavy matte coating.
AFAIK it's a TN panel ... which is terrible once you have experienced IPS![]()
I'm waiting until 144hz, G-Sync, IPS, WQHD and 27"+ will cost 400€. Then I'll jump in. Right now it's still too expensive.
You hook it up with a display port cable of course, the 980Ti obviously comes with those ports, besides GSync works only that way afaik.I just upgraded my computer and have a 980ti and am starting to look into these 1440p 144hz gsync monitors.
There's this one:
Acer Predator XB271HU bmiprz 27-inch WQHD (2560 x 1440) NVIDIA G-Sync Widescreen Display
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0173PEX20/?tag=neogaf0e-20
Expensive for sure. It also says that 144hz is via Display Port only? Is that true? How do I hook this up using my 980ti? Sorry I'm a little bit of a newb.
This monitor may be overkill (well meaning it's expensive haha). What's a comparable cheaper monitor that will offer nearly the same image beauty and have 1440p, 144hz and gsync?
Thanks for any help!

You can get Dell s2716DG for <500$

but it's TN not IPS - still I have it and it's nice screen for gaming.
Based on the research I have done none of them do then I realized even if they did I doubt they would have a capable gaming PC hooked up as well so it appears we are flying blind. What brick and mortar stores carry these monitors? I haven't needed a gaming monitor before and from what I see, there's nowhere to actually get a look at these locally. I live blocks from a tiger direct and they don't even have these to look at.

So to make sure I have a firm grasp on G Sync what it does is eliminate screen tearing c9mpletely no matter what the fps as long as the fps does not exceed the refresh rate of the monitor. So there is no longer the need for V Sync?
It also of course minimizes input lag as well.
Is that correct? If so I'm on board as I hate screen tearing with a passion.
Perfect. I seriously hate tearing more than anything so I tend to always put on VSync which is capping me at 60 since my monitor is a bit older. If I can eliminate screen tearing AND get higher frames plus make the jump to 2560x1440, well that all sounds damn appealing to me.Correct, with an asterisk. As long as your frame rate does not go above the monitor's refresh rate, you will see no tearing. As soon as it goes above, tearing will be present just like before, so you will either need to use vsync or cap your frame rate so that you never exceed maximum refresh. My monitor is 144Hz, and I've found that limiting frame rates in RTSS to 135 allows for butter smooth gameplay, ensures I never go over 144 fps, and allows me to keep vsync off universally (input lag is virtually non-existent).
Enjoy paying taxes bruhI just realized that my local Microcenter has all these popular G-Sync monitors in stock.

Only could find these locally at my city's Micro CenterWhat brick and mortar stores carry these monitors? I wouldn't buy one from there, but I like that I can go to a store and see something this expensive for myself and see how they are and if they are to my liking.

If you're going to get one of the IPS 1440 screens, it's probably worth paying a bit extra to be able to handle returns/exchanges easily.
I initially rolled my eyes at your response, but it turns out you were actually right! I had been using settings from here since I got the monitor, but using settings found on this site, I was able to use gamma 2 with accurate colour settings that don't appear blown out. Everything looks perfect. I am officially 100% satisfied with my AOC G2460PG!
See the quote above yours, Nesmaster. I have the same specs as you and the same monitor as Iced (it's a 1080p 144hz TN panel G-Sync) and it's done me well so far (about a year now). It's also one of the cheaper end ones as it's not 27", 1440p, or IPS.In the market for a new monitor with Gsync since I mostly game on my computer, but I'm not sure where I should be looking based on my current specs. Preferably looking on Amazon since I have a $100 GC I've saved since Christmas for this. Any suggestions is much appreciated!

And this was supposed to be an 8bit panel. Also it's a TN panel. And a TN panel at 27" simply looks bad, because you will get very noticable color differences even when sitting right in front of it. The only way I can see someone being happy with this display is if he/she never had an IPS/VA display. There is a reason why this one is so cheap. I have an Acer XB271HU right now, and while there is IPS glow in very dark scenes, it doesn't bother me nearly as much.
Sounds like the good news for me is I never owned an IPS/VA display (for Windows at least), so perhaps I can live with the monitor I just ordered.Gemüsepizza;201244890 said:I had the Dell S2716DG. And I just have to say I am not sure how much you are used to spending on monitors but $500 is not cheap to me. In fact I would say it is downright expensive. So spending $750+ on a monitor when my PC itself was only $1500 is just not an option. I have never, and will never, spend more on a monitor than I spent on my GPU. Just not going to happen. I already feel ridiculous spending $500 truth be told.
Since I am stepping up from a 5 year old ViewSonic 27" 1980 monitor 60hz monitor, I have a funny feeling I am really going to appreciate this Dell. It has GSync, It is 2140 resolution. From my current monitor to it, it is an obvious step up in a few key areas.
So yeah, I think it is going to be just fine for me. But we will see. Perhaps I will notice how awful it is, which is one of the reasons I did order from Amazon, they are very good with the returns.
