Almost willing to bet that Ice Climbers will be in Smash NX. Let's speculate

Uhh, a bit of a general statement. While granted, Smash 4 is a solid game, it's still generally considered to be below Melee within the FGC (especially from the standpoint of a spectator). Smash 4 typically gains more entrants at FGC tournaments because Melee has pretty much boiled down to the main Gods of Melee at majors. Though at Smash-specific majors, Melee seems to get more players.

I don't think Melee has anything to do with it.

It's a game that's hardly more than a year old and it's already got a healthy community around it, competitive and non-competitive. FGC isn't the only group that's playing Smash 4 regularly.

The FGC is not Smash's primary demographic. It's safe to say that Smash 4 is well-liked by a majority of the people who own it.

Also this. It's penetrated the casual market pretty well in my experience, and rightfully so.

Smash 4 will have legs, if you ask me. That's semi-threatening to some Melee fans but I don't think it should be.

Naaah, but I do think adding the Balloon Fighter could accomplish the same purpose of honoring him without any of the downsides.

That's kind of weird. Iwata programmed the port of Balloon Fight not design the character or even work on the original arcade game. An Iwata mii or special Kirby costume make more sense.

Could be that Ice Climbers are in it but there is also another contender.

There is a rumor that Smash Bros. for NX gonna feature a character from Ubisofts The Division.

I'm not entirely sure what a "Melee mode" would entail. Please enlighten me.

Whether or not one agrees with the need for such a mode, I think it's pretty obvious what is implied. Basically, do to Smash 4 what Project M did to Brawl. Again, I want to be clear that I'm not stating that I expect this from Smash NX or that it would make the game better, just that the request isn't difficult to understand.

My expectations are low. Rumors are that they want it to be cross-compatible with Wii U online, which I'm sure for them means to make the game a carbon copy of the Wii U version. I'll be happy if there's a shred of new content other than an updated controls menu.

Releasing the NX with Smash seems like an easy way to build an audience for their console, if they do it, I only want them to add the Wonderful 101, the whole team like the pikmin/pkm trainer...

They were all but completed but removed at the last second because of the 3DS, weren't they? I'm betting the NX version will have them along with all dlc and 3DS stages along with Wii U stages. And then the game will become a service and they'll keep adding dlc over it for a few years until smash 5.

I can't really see Sakurai would chained himself to to Smash for next few years after being working on Smash Bros ever since 2012. I can imagine that he would move on to next project after Smash NX get released.

The FGC is not Smash's primary demographic. It's safe to say that Smash 4 is well-liked by a majority of the people who own it.

That's major point and it's only demographic that Sakurai actually care about. Aka Quiet voices as he called it.

It would be like Smash Bros Melee battle engine with current roster.

Why I kept clicking the button when I meant to copied and pasted the comment and edit in my post. I'm really sorry! ;_;

There is no such a rumor about it because I haven't really hear anything about it. You probably thinking about Mario Maker and Splatoon. Smash Bros 3DS and Wii U already have bad cross-compatible so I can't' really see the situation would get better. It's possible that we could port our custom stages, and use our Amiibo to transfer our custom mii fighters and characters' custom movesets to Smash Bros NX.

Releasing the NX with Smash seems like an easy way to build an audience for their console, if they do it, I only want them to add the Wonderful 101, the whole team like the pikmin/pkm trainer...

I do think Wonderful 101 actually have a good chance this time. If Sakurai want to include more characters with uniqueness movesets then Wonderful 101 is the perfect character(s).

I wouldn't be shocked if it's pretty barebones, but I'm sort of inclined to think it'll be more than just a Game of the Year-esque package/remaster if this is expected to be a noteworthy launch title. Even the earliest speculated NX launch date would have this game launching 2 years out from the 3DS/Wii U versions of Smash 4. That seems kind of late for a Game of the Year edition to be noteworthy and kind of early for there to be legit demand for a remaster. There's need in my mind for more new content just because the alternatives are kind of venturing into "what's the point?" territory. I mean, it'd be fine to fill holes in the lineup post-launch especially if backwards compatibility is gone, but if Smash 4 NX is supposed to be a noteworthy launch title I feel like it can't just be a GotY edition remaster.

Of course, this is speculation based off of speculation so it's not like I'd be willing to wager money on any sort of predictions.

By all means I think new content is pretty necessary as well, I just have zero faith in Nintendo to surprise me :P

It'll also mean that they've been putting on a pretty big act lately about ending new Smash 4 content/Smash Directs/etc (which yes they can get away with because it will technically be a new game). It sounded like they wanted to put a bow on it and move on.

I think a straight Wii U port will sell on the name alone. That and Sakurai has said many times they're done making DLC and I doubt he's willing to jump in and make more unless Nintendo has a big paycheck for him.

IMO it's too early to bet on this, Smash U's NX port could be anything from a straight port to having new modes and certain aspects of the game redesigned.

It would be like Smash Bros Melee battle engine with current roster.

And what does the Melee engine change? I've been playing Super Smash Bros since the Nintendo 64 and things seem more or less than same, though 64 is a bit slower than all the games that have followed it.

Same here. I have no faith in Nintendo but I do have good faith in Sakurai so I hope that my faith isn't misplaced tho. Sakurai is very proud developer so I don't think he would be happy with the result if he's going to leave it as straight port for other 5-6 years, along with the fact that he really dislike characters being cuts so I think it's his best bet to include Ice Climbers and maybe more.

Yeah, you have a good point for their rolling credit where they provided the numbers of contents. I wonder if they are trying to emphasize that the supports for 3DS and Wii U are over? I know it's very situational to interpret but who knows.

As bolded, Yeah, I agreed with you. Also Splatoon is a hottest Nintendo franchise that aren't in Smash Bros so I can't really see them to not include Inkling this time. I might be wrong on that.

SmashGAF love speculations. I'm going to say it on the record, I'm going to be happy to be over with Smash Speculation once Smash NX is out. I don't think we will get any DLC for Smash NX so we wouldn't have anymore Smash speculation for 5-6 years until new console come out.

I don't disagree with you on that because not everyone owned Wii U and 3DS. But I personally think it would be a dumb move to not add new contents because they really need those 10M buyers to double dip for new versions.

You're correct on that. It's early to bet on anything but it's fun to speculate to see what is going to happens with upcoming version. It could be anything.

It's hard for me to explains in words. It's faster and heavier which allows us to play with better motivation in almost everything. Its kinda perfect for specific fan bases for hardcore players. Take a look at Brawl; it is slower and floaty which hardcore players dislikes.

Needs more real life athletes for mainstream attention. Lebron joins the competition. Tony Stewart drives over the competition.

Also squid boy and girl and calimari.

Did the lack of new content hurt say Ultra Street Fighter IV when it got ported? I know it had launch issues but that game, like Smash 4, was so content packed as is that it didn't feel like it needed anymore. Not to mention GOTY editions which is running on the same principle don't add anything at all besides putting in all the existing DLC. I don't expect Smash 4 to be that big of a deal at launch. It's existence means that it's a popular game getting ported for not a whole lot of money to squeeze out a few sales. There's going to be Smash 5. They might as well save their ideas for that.

I can't say for sure what the goals of Smash NX would be. But the difference here to me is that Ultra Street Fighter IV:

1.) Wasn't a launch title and therefore isn't there to drive sales of new hardware.

and

2.) Was primarily there just to bridge the gap between IV and V. V was less than a year away when Ultra IV got ported to the PS4.

So the goals make sense. I'm not sure if the NX will be backwards compatible, but as we know the PS4 is not backwards compatible with the PS3. So I understand the appeal of a low-risk port to PS4. Play Ultra on your PS4 while you wait for the new game to release.

But if Smash NX is a launch title, I think it carries with it slightly different strategic implications seeing as how it would be a launch game from a platform holder. It's not there to squeeze a little more mileage out of the previous game while people wait for Smash 5. It's there to drive sales of new hardware. And I don't think there's as compelling a case for it if it's more or less the same game people have been playing for 2+ years with updated visuals. I feel like you need more content in order to pitch this as the definitive version of a game that makes the hardware purchase worthwhile.

Now if backwards compatibility is gone with the NX and Smash 5 gets announced, the comparison to the PS4 version of USF4 would make sense to me as a game that's just intended to fill a gap and keep interest alive for the next version.

My thoughts as well. I don't think they'd bother porting it unless they thought they could get the users to switch to the new game. It wouldn't seem very "Nintendo" to just slap together a quick Smash port for the launch of a platform they need to be very successful.

I don't know the total sales for USF4 PS4. And Steve and Breadbug already covered me.

What if Smash NX is Smash 5? We don't really have much information to go with. It's all harmless speculations. It's like 13 months between n64 and Melee which is really huge changes between two games. So I'm saying anything is possible!

Then Smash NX will have to have some major gameplay changes.

I apologize for the double-post, but I'd like to point out that despite 10k's rumors falling flat on its face, we still have other sources pointing towards a Smash 4 port happening. Same for Zelda, Super Mario Maker, & Splatoon.

Some dreams are just too big for this world.

Or in this case, too small.

Fand pls! I still think they have a shot.

That's if it actually happens then it should have some changes. I'm fine with anything other than my own expectation which is 1:1 straight port.

I don't really rely on anyone's rumors but Toto. It sucks to see the thread ended up like it did.

Maybe when Wonder Red is in Smash, people will start looking into The Wonderful 101. The people who buy it accidentally because they and hit the wrong button in the eShop should be enough to double the game's sales.

Don't do that to yourself, man.

What makes anyone believe that the NX will even sell well at launch? If it's only Nintendo fans who buy it how many of them are willing to double dip on what is essentially the exact same game -_- If people didn't buy a Wii U for smash I doubt they will buy a NX for smash.

The Wii U failed despite its software, not because of it. Are you saying that Smash 4 isn't a good game?

I'm sure they'll have ice climbers in a NX smash. If it's just a port of smash 4 then I'm not so sure.
Two non-10k sources, one of them being Emily Rogers, have mentioned that Smash 4 will receive a port. And given the recentcy of Smash 4's completion, a Complete Edition port makes sense.

I think Emily Rogers and other source probably piggy-riding on Toto's leak/rumor. I still think they just assume that it's a port, just like rest of us did and probably know NOTHING about Smash Port.

Probably. Sakurai always reviews previous consoles' games or franchises to decide what characters to get in. Wonderful 101 being Wii U title, so it's possible that Sakurai might feel that those character would bring unique move set into Smash Bros.

Don't do that to yourself, man.

I wish they did, but I don't think so :[

Man, Look at bunch of Jokers! Former Wonderful 101 believers wouldn't rise up and start to believe in them again.

You don't seem to understand why the system failed.

Anyways, I think its very likely Ice Climbers will be in. Sakurai had created them for the Wii U version if I recall.

I don't think Nintendo are as relevant as they used to be..... The reality is that people don't want to pay for a Nintendo console any more. Outside of the Wii, Nintendo home consoles have been progressively selling less and less each generation. I don't think re-releasing a game that is barely 2 years old will suddenly catapult them into relevance. Be realistic...

And what does the Melee engine change? I've been playing Super Smash Bros since the Nintendo 64 and things seem more or less than same, though 64 is a bit slower than all the games that have followed it.

A number of things were changed after Melee, in part because Sakurai didn't really like that people played Smash as a fighting game/competitively.

Melee has the tightest movement in the series, from the way dashing works, to the overall "heaviness" of the characters, to the momentum you maintain while jumping.

It's more combo friendly due to higher hitstun than later entries (but not as much as 64), L canceling to reduce landing lag (also not as much as 64's Z cancel), and the aforementioned tighter movement.

The air dodge also functions entirely differently which impacts a lot. The single use, directional air dodge is a big commitment as a defensive move, can be used for things like recovery mixups when very close to the stage, and of course is what allows wavedashing to exist. And that opens the doors for some techniques and spacing options that would otherwise not be possible.

There are other differences if you just factor in Smash 4's changes too, like off stage play changing a lot due to the differences in how ledges work, the spammable air dodge, and generally lower weight.

I never said it would.

YES. All of my yes.

I'm willing to bet this as well. I bet they were truly scrapped because of 8-player smash as well.

NX version is the perfect type to show off "power" that can run Icies on this version.

Sorry about Double Post.

You need to sacrifice something to get Snake in Smash Bros NX. Like Resident Evil and Dino Crisis. :P

The cycle would repeat again during Smash NX. The Desire for Snake is unstoppable.

Derp, I'm sorry for misinterpreting your post. My bad! Well, I don't really care about Rayman because I haven't play any of his new games yet but I felt it's suspicious that they have trophies in Smash Bros for Wii U so it's possible they might have a chance for next game. The rumor came from very reliable source so he said that they said no to Rayman as playable character for Smash 4 if I remember it correctly.

With Sakurai's comment about wanting Geno in Smash Bros made me feel like that I should add Geno to the list because Square-Enix and Nintendo are getting chummy lately.

Why not Tingle? He can be our top tier joke character, and it would make every zelda fans happy sine they always ask for newcomer. :P

If we actually get new characters then I want to chime in and say that we don't have to worry about characters getting cut is potentially best thing about Smash NX Hype Train. It's really nerve-wrecking and annoying to discuss about which characters getting cut or not. If we actually got new contents, I hope that SAkurai would come out and tell us that everyone from Smash 4 wouldn't get cut to just make it easier for all of us.

I gotta get something first before I sacrifice anything

I actually think Tingle would be pretty neat if they had him represent his own line of games like Wario and Yoshi. In the actual Zelda games he's nothing but a minor (if reoccuring) NPC but obviously in his own games he's the main star.

If Nintendo did anything with Tingle's line of games again I wouldn't mind him joining Smash.

I meant, you could sacrifice Resident Evil 7 and Dino Crisis Reboot now so it will never happens ever just for Snake? :P

Yeah, Tingle and Rupeeland right? I never had a chance to play those games but do you think he could have a decent move set coming from those franchise?

So Isaac will be in it too, right?

as an AT ;_;

EDIT: I've given up all hope for Ridley, so I've moved on to smaller and better opportunities.

I know I'm not the target audience for this game since I already have it for Wii U but I'd double dip for the Smash 4 NX if they add a significant amount of content. 1 or two new characters, All DLC and maybe some new stages would be enough for me.

He's talking about the probability of Ice Climbers in the port as opposed of a brand new Smash game, not the existence of the port itself.

Ah, didn't see that the 10k stuff was verified bullshit.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=200837462&postcount=508

CALLED IT. The tiering system of leaks never made a goddamn lick of sense, and every supposed leak was way too obvious to be real. And the gimmick didn't make any sense for nintendo at all.

Anyway! I could definitely see IC coming back for an NX port. I think they will want to make a splash to get smash players to migrate over to Wii U, so I expect them to offer at least one newcomer as well. I think an inkling/squid kid would make a lot of sense, and it's likely not something they felt that they could have done justice with on the 3DS.

My heart wants Wonder Red though.
