Final Fantasy IX PC/Mobile |OT| How did the source code survive?

I'm having a strange issue with the game: sometimes when I boot it, Zidane runs in circles without actually pushing anything and with controller unplugged.
If I close the game and restart it, it works.

Oh, also a tip: to get the S rank treasure hunter you don't need to actually get all treasure chests in the world. You can check your score by talking to the thief in Daguerreo, but be aware if you are S rank he will run away, so play cards with him since he has very good airship cards.

squarealex the characters look way more seated in the environment with that filter. Never used sweet fx before but I might give it a go for that.

My main disappointment with the game so far is the lack of analog movement. Should be trivial to implement a toggle for full and partial tilt on the analog stick, instead of requiring players to hold a button.

Anyone have any recommendations between the pc version and the PS1 classic on Vita? I enjoyed playing FFVII on my vita for the first time a few years ago.

PC/Mobile version is better. Redone character models and a bunch of quality of life features like speed up, disable random battles and skip battle intro.

I never got it on the PS1 version, maybe I got like 91 or 92 max.

I never got the 10,000 gil on PS1 either. Not sure if it was possible or not lol.

i got 98 on EUR release.
but that was atfer like 20 tries.

It's a code thing. Modifying the battle FPS as well as changing the booster speed is just changing one byte...

T-Teach me senpai. also its possible to unlock FPS on World Map?

I'd just buy based on where you want to play. The image quality in this version is great, but there are a few menu and camera bugs which tarnish the experience. I'm very much someone who prefers the idea of a Grim Fandango remaster type experience which aims to be faithful to the original. I get a feeling very few, if any of the original creators had anything to do with this release.

It's not like the original is a difficult game to get into.

That sounds easy enough, I'll try to look into it when I have some time. No promises though, because I'm going to be pretty busy this week.

Thanks for the work so far :) and greatly appreciate the response.

If this helps: I've noticed that whenever an FMV where your in-game character model is overlayed on the movie file, the fast forward icon disappears and the movie plays at normal 1x speed (example, after the intro where the scene where vivi falls down and drops the ticket and the little girl comes to pick it up "you dwopped this" or the disc 1 "ohhh soft" scene where you see the in-game zidane and garnet models for a few seconds.

However for the full-on FMV files (like the intro, end of disc 1 etc) the video file runs at 2X speed too and the music skips.

Game progress: finished up till the disc 1 part of the game, a bit bummed that it instantly skipped to disc 2. The end-of-disc wallpapers were pretty awesome, would have loved if the game at least showed a splash screen or something. Also, really digging the high resolution FMV files, though it seems like not all videos are in that higher quality, some seem like the 240p videos I remember from the PSX.

Hey guys, I just have a performance question. Does it load in and out fast from battles ? I couldn't finish the game on ps vita because all was so slow. Is this fixed on PC ?

Loads quite fast.

There's also an option to skip the battle camera introduction I think but I haven't tried it yet.
For those don't know how to install SweetFX and want a CRT effect, i create a guide on Steam. (eh Okay, is not a perfect english but i hope is understand for everyone)

Very nice fam, will be sure to try it :)

It really does help blend the characters more into the background from those screens. That's the good thing about scanlines with low-resolution assets, it's basically the same effect as squinting to see edges and details more clearly. Looks really good.

It's reading the wrong axis or axes as the player character movement through directinput most likely.

For some pads like the DS4 the trigger default position is read as -1.000 which is down/left if it is read as character movement.

Games like Dark Souls PC will do the same thing with Directinput pads that get mapped incorrectly, the camera starts swirling down and to the side.

You don't need to have a feeling. The splash screen credits a Thai company.

And you can view the full credits for the port version from the title screen. I haven't bothered to check and see if any of the names are old Squaresoft names, but I'd tend to doubt it. There's no reason to put top people on a port.

Is there a hope that a mod could be released to:
- Add support for activating/deactivating boosters without having to pause?
- Change the Battle UI so it's more minimalistic? The current one clearly seems derived from the mobile version and it just takes up too much of the damned screen.

Otherwise, I'm rather happy with this version.

if you have a DS4 or a Steam Controller, you can map F1-F7 to certain functions.

people are working on Ui modifications

Can't wait for smaller UI. As already pointed out... just takes up too much of the screen. Not playing it on a 5 inch phone after all.

Smaller UI would be wonderful, but honestly I just can't play without analog support. It's the only thing holding me back, the rest I could forgive.

Didn't you say you had a DS4 earlier? Mapping F1-F4 to the touchpad in DS4windows should work

Haven't played much yet due to work but i'd like to know if there's a way to get rid of those damn black "boarders" on left and right side of the screen?

Figured the Xbox One controller's d-pad would make playing easier.. And the controller doesn't work. Plug it in before launching the game and the game just refuses to do anything. Plug it in after launching the game, and the controller simply does nothing.

What a fucking shit show.

e: and the 9999dmg cheat doesn't seem to do anything for me regarding stealing. Still getting that good ol "couldn't steal".

Someone mentioned changing the battle FPS ?

Also..

Xbox One controller is crap. It's never worked for me on older games, emulators, or this.

Xbox 360 controller is fine <3

is it just me or scenes where the background is prerendered but realtime rendered characters on (such as when you're vivi and the camera pans down) that they've recorded the video so the background characters except vivi are part of the video?

I can understand cheating on a replay, but I highly recommend everyone do the chocobo sidequest stuff legit on their first playthrough!

Nah. You could cheat using the 5x speed and it's fine, the game takes too long and it's TOO much luck-based.
Like I spent one hour without finding a single chocograph, when other times I found one in each play.
My advice is, even if it's your first play, you NEED to use the 5x option for Hot & Cold, you miss nothing by doing so and you only gain time.
I did it legit 15 years ago and it was painfully boring.

They were always part of the video.

I certainly wouldn't blame anyone who cheated their way through hot & cold with the speed boost. It's not difficult, it's just tedious as fuck.

Then again, I'm generally not against cheating in single player games at all. If someone wants to go at it with infinite HP and MP, even on their first run, that's their prerogative. I'm not gonna berate them for that.

I did it last year and don't remember it taking very long. To each their own!

The loot you get for doing chocobo hot and cold is pretty decent. Back in 2000 I felt like it was a decent return for your investment. I don't remember many of the chests containing crap. The structure of giving you chocographs you literally can't find until much later in the game is a bit lame.

Scanlines working great, looks amazing, thanks for that!

Btw apparently Final Fantasy IX does not like being run at 4K with 2x2 SSAA :P

Part of the reasoning for that is to prevent a game-breaking glitch. They edited some of the chocographs so you couldn't get to the Air Garden (IIRC) too early.

Is this the official thread for the steam version? Anyways, been upwards of 10 years since I last played this classic. Other than the major late game stuff I don't remember too much about the twists and turns so it's kinda like going in fresh.
