Star Citizen Alpha 2.0 | The 'Verse Awakens

And boy will it be huge, once they finalize the concept! Still 5000 SCU of goods, a storefront, 8 crew, and originally listed at 100m length, 50m height, 135m beam. I bet it will grow even larger to fit what they promised.
LOL. I hope i can still pilot it then. (Chris said once on a stream that the MM is the largest ship you can fly solo)
But nobody knows how big the BMM really is. =P
It's the Tardis of the Star Citizen universe. 😆

Dragonfly Concept will be coming up most likely before November. It is a snub ship(motorcycle like) I can not imagine it being more than $30 as it can not land on a planet or quantum travel.

This friday is a concept sale, MISC Prospector. It will be $140.

From what I've been reading I can upgrade from a ship I own to another that is the same price or more expensive. Does that mean I could just buy several of the cheaper concept ahips to get the LTI and then just upgrade and pay the difference to get other ships and still keep the LTI?

That's what we've both been talking about. Buying LTI concept ships and upgrading/CCUing them to what you want. Any ship can be upgraded to one equal or greater than its cost. In the case of concept ships, this can be used to transfer their LTI status to any ship of equal or greater value. The Prospector will be good for anything $140 and up. A hypothetical Dragonfly at $30 would be good for anything $30 and up.

Excited for the release of the MISC Prospector. I can finally upgrade the CCUs I have sitting in my Hangar for the Super Hornet and Aegis Sabre I picked up when they were available during the last Free Fly event.

I haven't been able to find an answer to this question. When they do have the concept sales is there a limit to how many times you can purchase the concept ships?

Yeah, you can only buy as many as you can afford. =P More seriously, it depends on the concept. Take the 890 Jump concept sale for instance. It was meant to be rare in the game universe, so only a set number were sold. Something common like the Reliant could be bought in unlimited quantities. Most everything from this point onward isn't going to be limited aside from perhaps the replacement corvette.

I hope the Polaris is not limited and under $800. If not I guess hold out tell Nov and maybe they will have them again or a 890J.

I have an extra Reliant Kore that just went up $15 (once flight ready) and a CCU to a SF that has effectively gone up $225 in value (once flight ready) that I want to chain together to CCU to a Polaris. If that does not work I will use my extra RSI and melt one of my Blade tokens to hopefully get one.

That is awesome. I will definitely be buying multiple concept ships in the future then.

What ships are everyone looking forward to the most? I personally can't wait to see the, and fly around in the large capitol ships, and really almost any of the multi crew ships to see how that will actually work.

I'm hoping to take advantage of the timing of pricing changes to go from a Starfarer to a Hull E. With any luck, there will be a window after the $100 flyable Starfarer bump when it's only $150 or so difference and I'll have an LTI one for about 2/3 the total cost, assuming it goes up for sale again or I can get Concierge to make an exception. It'll be an event any time we try to do anything with one of those, heh. Gives our other capital ships something to protect.

Parking somewhere pretty and looking up out of the sunroof in the Phoenix will be pretty sweet. Looking forward to zooming around in that Archimedes too.

Also kind of want to get a video of bonking a starter ship out of the way by rolling my Endeavor's agriculture dome into it.

I hope it works out for you. I doubt the E will be hangar ready or flight ready before November so you should be in luck.

I will gladly hang out with our Idris-P guys in a Polaris to protect the "hopefully" 2-3 Hull-Es the Org has.

Looking at our ORG chart I may even upgrade my own Gemini for a Hull D or E as we have a lot of the Gemini's already.

I'd say having multiple Hull D's would be more robust. Just wanted to have at least one E in case they follow through on the idea of having exclusive bulk trade missions for it.

2-3 Hull-E's? Surely not at once! There's no way we're going to have the means to fill multiple Hull-Es for quite some time. Just filling and escorting one is going to be a challenge. I don't even want to think of what the insurance costs will be for the cargo.

That said, the slightly more sane Hull D is still technically on my agenda for this year, but my planning is totally thrown off by VR. Not sure when I'll get around to it.

I will keep my sites set on a Polaris then to support the Hull-E and D's we have. If we find that more D's are needed I can melt my Gemini as we seem to have a ton of those at the moment.

You've got the ship bug bad. =P Not that I should be talking with my fleet lol.

I have a lot of ground to make up sense missing the kickstarter in 2012 ;).

It is a fun way to support the game and also help out the ORG. Also playing in PU and PTU sense 2.0 Alpha hit has been the most fun I have had playing an online game sense Original EQ in 1999. Looking forward to the Evocati special NDA testing here soon.

I like the look of the Prospector and I'm wondering if that UFO looking disk suspended from the bottom is something like a metal detector similar to what you might see someone using at the beach?!?

Does 'not final art' mean that not only is CIG selling a ship that doesn't exist yet for function that doesn't exist yet in a game that hasn't come out yet, but that even the way the ship looks is not finalised?

Yes, I'm being facetious, but I'd love to hear why people buy ships like this instead of either waiting for the ship to be released as DLC in the finished game, or earning the ship in-game.

At this point what need is there for more fundraising by CIG? The last stretch goal was at about $65 million or something IIRC.

I dont buy ships, i dont care, i'll unlock those i want ingame.

They can expand their headcount thanks to this, like for example its one of the reason we have Foundry 42 Frankfurt.
And game wont stop development when it hits 1.0. When they'll finish Squadron 42 episode 1, they will start shooting episode 2, when they'll release SC 1.0, they will keep expanding it. Its a game that they want to develop and expand for next 10 years, as You would normally do with MMOs.

Today was going to be the first concept sale I was going to jump on, but I have no idea when or where on the site it'll show up.

I also had to reinstall the "game" last night and was trying to do the flight training, but it would never progress past when the trainer leaves the bay. It wouldn't freeze lt crash, it would just sit there and let me look around bjt nothing else. I'm sure this would be better asked on the star citizen forums, but figured I'd ask here too.

I know this isn't exactly the place to put this, but I figured those in the ED/SC threads would probably find this the most interesting.

HotasWarthog800x600.jpg

The Thrustmaster Warthog H.O.T.A.S is on sale for $300 at Newegg. I've never seen it this low before.

I'm seriously tempted. I have a Rhino, so.. I'm set for now. But I've only ever heard great things about this.
Clearing out for the new lineup is my guess.

You must be new here. Ships are never finalized until the game goes final. Even the ones you can fly in right now can be changed in both function and design. The Freelancer was totally revamped after being hangar ready. As was the Constellation. The 300 series is going under a remodeling pass currently and is flight ready.

The reasons people buy the ships is varied, but most do it for supporting the game. It's all sunk into developing the game regardless of any official stretch goal. Beyond that, what does it matter what other people do with their money? Those that don't want to spend it, don't have to.

Flight training is broken, has been broken, and likely will be broken forever. Edit: Actually Raticus, could you throw that up in the OP? Might cut down on the number of times we have to bring it up lol.

Sure, I just added this:

"How do I play? Hey, maybe I should check out that tutorial..."
Nope. The tutorial's badly broken and has all sorts of problems that don't happen in other game modes.
Best bet is to stick to the single player game modes while getting used to the controls.

Shuffled things around a bit to put the beginner stuff up front.

I completely missed that. Thanks for putting up with all of my questionsso far.

I hope the ability to upgrade the Prospector to other ships is still rolling out. I was planning on upgrading some CCUs to LTI today...

EDIT: "Prospector is not currently available for upgrade. Please check back later, limited ships can become available during special events."

It will they have to finish updating all of them. Took a few days for all the Blade ones to show up last month.

Just saw a post 2 minutes old that says it's available now - give it another shot.

Best cockpit view confirmed (at least until the Carrack shows up)

Best unobstructed horizontal view perhaps, but it has limited overhead. All things considered, I don't think it's ultimately better than say the Reliant. It's kind of amusing that MISC ships represent some of the best and worst cockpit views though. Seems like middle ground isn't their specialty. "MISC: We either do something great, or don't do it at all! (You didn't want to see out your Freelancer anyhow right?)"

Also, IMO the Carrack doesn't really have a cockpit. I'd classify it as having a bridge. It's better to compare it to the other large class ships with multiple seats and a captain's chair. So the Carrack would be in competition with the Idris, 890J, Starfarer, etc.

They're giving away 5 Orions to the best 5 entries received here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/corp/shubin
(pretty much a writing contest)

"From today's RtV:
12:22 - You can generate a mining application which then CIG will choose the 5 best submissions from folks and will give away a RSI Orion to those folks.
12:25 - Only submit your best mining application because they will take the latest one."
(source)

Guess you'd research the systems and ships and write up a good in-character application up to 1000 characters. The roles to be applied for are pretty broad - doesn't have to be about mining ships (but reading between the lines, that's probably your best bet)..

Well, +1 Prospector to the stable. In addition to planetside mining, it could be an asset to larger space mining operations. Could conceivably compliment the Orion given that it's far smaller and more agile. A forward mining scout if you will.

I agree.

Sounds like with several Prospectors and a few Orion's in the ORG teamed up with the big Hulls we have could be a good money making ORG during slow times. I am sure a few of our Ace fighter guys could lend some protection as well.

Finally got a co-working to get into the game this Monday, he picked up a prospector today after seeing the concept. I will see if he wants to join the GAF ORG as well.

Someone on reddit commented that endeavor + prospectors could be a good combo too.

Just noticed the Fly Free period was extended until Monday. Updated the OP.
