Persona 5 getting an announcement on May 5, 2016

I legit believe it'll be a WW release simply cause this is their biggest game yet and to have it spoiled for NA fans months in advance would be unacceptable
in my mind

On the surface, obviously all signs point to a WW release being the best scenario for the fans and for the company themselves.

I can already see the "coming in 2017" at the end of a 3 minute trailer with 20 seconds of gameplay and 2:40 of anime and cutscenes

Atlus could at least release Persona 3 and 4 with achievements for the PS4

oh boy i hope your ready.

cause its coming

If it's a definitive version of P3 (i.e. FES + Portable combined with FeMC) and P4G, I'd be perfectly fine with this.
I am ashamed to say it but I would quantuple dip for that (P3, FES, FES Digital, PSP, PSP Digital, P4, P4 Digital, P4G, P4G physical, P4G SE). I have a problem.

Am i the only one who wishes they would stop using anime cutscenes? based on the P5 footage we already have, Atlus have basically mastered real time cutscenes..and they for the most part look better than the pretty low quality anime cutscenes these days

When they're about as short and as sparse as the CG scenes in the PS1 FFs? Eh. They're not really necessary, but I don't mind them.

You saying these don't look good?

Can't wait for this to be a teaser trailer for the announcement trailer where they will spend 4 minutes and 50 seconds showing footage we have already seen and then at the last 10 seconds we get to see a small box of text that reads, "2018". . . can you tell that I am a bit cynical about this?

Seriously though I hope it is good news, I can't handle another delay :[

In general, they look average, they aren't mid tier or even really stand out, all all the models look nondescript and low on details(especially for NPCs) and it just clashes with the rest of the game when its using the engine rendering.

In previous games, it was a lot less jarring cause Atlus could not show as much nuance with their previous Persona level of fidelity in real time.

Yes, because they can just farm these low quality anime cutscenes out to anime studio while the rest of Atlus team can work on that NEO mode for dem 1080p 60 fps no drop goodness.

People are nuts, the anime stuff looks great. Sure, it's not the best art out there, but the styyyyyle and cinematography more than makes up for it.

But yeah, I'd rather them farm out anime cutscenes than have to invest deeply into performance cap or hand animating every part of an in-game cinematic.

Plus there's some things that anime just does better than polygonal models atm - like fluid movement. The ending of Persona 4, for example, wouldn't have been anywhere near as good with polygonal models
running down the train station with jarring animations and rendered tears - even with today's engines
.

This thread is funny with all these people thinking bad news would be teased. Bad news is never teased, it's just dropped.

You know, like the last time this game was delayed.

Wow, we have very different definitions of what looks good and bad. Sure, those particular scenes were visually striking, but so were the posted gifs - just in a different way.

You're making me wonder what on earth you think a good looking anime is, since I wouldn't watch a whole show animated like those particular scenes of the 1st trailer.

Atlus needs to hurry up and release this. I feel like it's getting dangerously close to losing a lot of the hype and momentum it had. I remember when the first real trailer dropped last year and set the internet on fire. Gotta strike while the iron is hot.

The timer is tied to your computer's clock. Too bad it seems like setting it forward to May 5 (May 5, 21:30 EST to be precise) doesn't do anything fun.

Of the mainline Persona games, the glimpses we've gotten of P5's animated cut scenes (and its opening sequence) easily eclipse anything before as you can tell Atlus has a much bigger budget to give to the production company this time around (and the fact that it's Production I.G. this time handling these scenes is noteworthy as they are a prolific animation company in Japan).

They look fine but Production I.G. doing it isn't any special, they handle every anime under the sun. If it was like Ufotable or something, then it would be remarkable.

Now this is something I simply cannot agree with. It's fine if you want to put ufotable on a pedestal, as most people are wont to do (and for fairly good reason), but IG is in no ways a less than remarkable studio.

Could this news actually drop in Famitsu and/or Dengeki Playstation since it's website countdown is due on the 5th? If it's just an announcement of the date rather than an event, then it seems perfect for those.

I'd imagine Dengeki would probably have more information the Tuesday after 5/5.

And even then I.G is capable of putting out really good stuff and the stuff we've seen of Persona 5 so far isn't really coming close to that. And even then most animators are freelance so we've no idea who could actually be working on Persona 5 in that regard.

Ufotable is relevant here too since their anime intros for games still don't look anywhere near as good as the really good fight scenes from the series that they've done do. Sure, they don't look terrible but nothing still comes close to the extended fight scenes they'll have that have a lot of excellent cuts spread throughout them.

Production IG is only second to Ghibli for me

Won't be surprised if they pulled a Diva and the countdown only reveal a date for a Persona 5 Stream event

I like it when Atlus use their style in the anime cutscenes:

And it's not like it's impossible. If what Hashino said is true, then the delay is mostly because of polishing and balancing stuff, so pretty unrelated to localization. Which means Atlus USA had a lot of time to do the localization and they might be nearly finished.

It would be nice if Atlus made the effort to get the anime localized as it airs on Japan, so overseas fans can watch it at the same time, like S-E is doing with Brotherhood FFXV and Namco is going to do with Tales of the X. But I don't think they care.
