Uncharted 4 spoiler free early copy impressions

Yes it does, especially at certain lighting moments, etc. If you didn't see a bunch of the pictures posted a few days by myself and others, they are gorgeous.

You really think it looks as good as E3 2014 reveal? Sorry if the image is offensive I found it somewhere on the net

I really don't know why I'm not enjoying the story. I'm not rushing through it either.

Something about the story feels...wrong...or missing that's not really captivating me. I can't put my finger on it.

I was so hyped about it before I got it and now that I'm more than halfway done...

This feels weird to me lol.

Can you elaborate?

Good times.
Without spoiling anything, this is a globetrotting adventure, where we'll visit many different continents and countries, right?
Of course it is.

I just want to say, as I'm reading through this, I started thinking, you guys are seriously awesome. Getting hyped up with all of you makes every game launch more fun...especially this particularly amazing one!

Nate confirmed to actually be Venom Drake while the real Nate builds Outer Heaven (which happens to just be Chloe's ass)

Actually he decided to built Outer Heaven after the death of account manager"John" which was in a collapsing building and found Nate running into the smoke trying to help him... but then Nate fell and sees himself surrounded by many Chloe's asses levitating him into the air.

Just started chapter 9. 4 hours and 7 minutes and that's without cutscenes I believe.

The pacing has really held up and is still quite good so far. Its very reminiscent of UC2. Lots of quiet moments that build towards encounters. So far the encounters haven't been overly plentiful nor too little, just the right amount in a typical UC-esque structure (early on in the game, more focus on platforming that transitions to a bigger focus on action as the game progresses).

Not yet for spoiler reasons and the fact that I haven't finished it yet.

My thoughts aren't final yet.

Would you mind PM-ing me your thoughts on the game?

The story is a concern for myself; never particularly engaged with the stories of previous UC games. However I was really engaged by the TLoU story, hoping ND managed to carry over their spark to UC4.

You'll like it. The story is very much like TLOU. It still has that treasure hunting focus that you've come to expect from UC games but it makes it very clear early on that the story is about the characters.

Ah that's great, I really enjoyed the more character-centric story of TLoU.

Hype levels for the game are increasing; going to have to wait an extra 4 weeks til my exams are over though :(

Playthrough completed (on Hard). As someone who loves the ritual of playing each installment in a single sitting (mostly because of their cinematic strengths) with fresh eyes, playing UC4 in one sitting is unnecessary.

Played a little more and got to the first few classic uncharted encounters, the areas are larger and offer so many paths and ways to stay hidden. In one area I hung back and marked all enemies (yeah there is marking) and I snuck around trying to pick off guys stealthily but it's not easy. I would get caught and guys would come at me from all directions. One of the coolest parts of this is how your companion aids you during battle, it's a lot like TLOU. A lot of times I was in trouble and boom I get rescued in a cool way.

I cleaned up the area once and explored a bit and found a rifle with a scope at the edge of the map, I wanted to mess with that so I started the encounter again. No silenced weapons yet so once you shoot all hell breaks loose. I had a few wonky animations happens when I tried to stealth kill guy from above that was walking around a corner and I sort of locked on to him and warped around the corner. It still feels very much like uncharted encounters but with TLOU elements thrown in.

They are also some cool things being done with the platforming, they start adding in elements and mixing them together in cool ways.

If you think that looks bad, I want to know what you think looks good.

Compared to the image above it doesn't look as good. It might just be the lighting that makes it look flat, it might be something else, that's why I'm asking for someone to upload a real shot from the game.

Yea, I'd agree with all of this. The melee is just the best. It's pretty much TLOU but the contextual animations and the AI helping you... it just blends so well that it could pass off as being scripted.

This is very good and this actually has me more hyped for TLoU, listening mode off on hard. I loved making use of the limited weapons I had. They should have options to double wield bricks in last of us 2 and make some custom weapons hand held weapons to a certain extent to expand on the brutal melee.

Don't if you guys are joking or not, but this needs to stop. This is stupid like the inaccurate Uncharted 3 comparison that was going around.

Please stop quoting that image - it is entirely inaccurate. It is also completely unrelated to the topic of the thread.

What the hell that looks terrible! Downgrade confirmed. :(

Admittedly it's very hard to tell on here when people are joking or what, but just in case:

1: The image has E3 2014 on it, and then written there is "6 months later" (Dec 2014)
2. It also has the PSX logo on it, stating December 2014.
3. The left bottom view is just the closest match in orientation to the top view. It's not the same moment.
4. The right bottom view is taken from him walking through random jungle near the end of the PSX demo. Not the same moment.
5. Different time of day.

I think the only mechanics that can be compared are

Cover mechanics-how it feels moving around, aiming over cover etc. UC4 has it beat there easily as you can't blindfire from cover in MGSV.

Aiming, the feel of aiming a gun and the way the reticule behaves. I'd say they're about even. UC4 has better aiming reticule and hit markers. MGSV has FPS ADS but that's due to the nature of the game.

Shooting. UC4's guns feel better to shoot imo. I like the way the guns behave and the sound effects are amazing. MGSV is great too but the way the bullets spray and the reticule makes it not suited to playing it like that too much.

Movement. Even. MGSV feels godly when just simply moving around. UC4 feels great too although you can't sprint nor dive. UC4 has better animations and looks better in animations.

Melee, UC4 hands down. MGSV CQC is basically a three hit combo or slam. UC4 has beautiful contextual melee so there's lots of different ways to attack.

of all the impressions and stuff this has me the most hyped.

I've played through the first few chapters.

Thoughts:
- the intro should not be compared to TLOU. It's its own thing, trying to do its own thing. Is it great? Yes, but different, and it's hard for me to compare. A little too hyped IMO.
- the first few chapters/intro is intentionally slow compared to what comes later, meant to ease you into this universe and the gameplay. But it's enjoyable.
- More than any other game in the series, the cinematics are phenomenal. The game is incredibly cinematic now. The line between cutscenes and gameplay is so blurred that it's almost like one continuous movie.
- The gameplay is more open than ever, yet you always conveniently end up where you need to be. It's like they perfectly designed the levels to feel like you're naturally exploring deeply on your own but you end up where you need to.
- The Melee combat is not as complicated as U3 felt with all the different button combos and shit, you just punch and evade and the environment plays a part, but it's smooth and cinematic, intended to just look like movie Melee combat. But every attack you pull could look different with all the animations and environment factors.
- The graphics are UNREAL WHAT IN THE FUCK THIS LOOKS LIKE A CG MOVIE. Like this game doesn't even need PS4 Neo it's so smooth and beautiful.
- when all the uncharted gameplay elements kick in, it finally feels "oh shit awesome" and it's more exhilarating and fun than any action movie scene ever.
- no crazy set pieces yet (I'm not far at all though) but the graphics and gameplay are so smooth, refined and polished that it is enjoyable.
- character motives and development are much more fleshed out and realistic here than any other Uncharted game.
- the gun combat is SO FUCKING GOOD. The third person combat is not as perfectly smooth as MGSV, because there's still Uncharted jank with moving around cover and getting stuck on the environment, but the guns themselves feel great and the combat is so cinematic.
Teeny spoiler
- there is an Easter egg that literally dropped my jaw.

oh boy. I hated the puzzles in the uncharted games. Actually..the only puzzles I liked are in uncharted 2. The puzzles in uc3 are dreadful and hurt the pace considerably.
Cant agree here UC3 had the best puzzles in the series sand I am glad they apparently improved upon them.

Great impressions Lamp, man it sounds like they took the best elements of the UC franchise and the Last of Us and put them in one game.

Haha, that fucking image again. It was a joke image made on NeoGAF if I recall correctly. Unfortunately, some people went on to use it seriously.

I'm sure we'll get better quality comparison shots as from my understanding that segment is still in the game, but it's not like these in-game (not cut-scene) character models don't already look great.

Just finished chapter 9. I need a sweating GIF pronto.

The gunplay in this game is so god damn tight.

Also, statistics counter counts cutscene time.
