Persona 5 getting an announcement on May 5, 2016

Looking back at the discussion from previous page, I agree with Dantis that this game will be a tougher sale to western audience than Catherine.

Putting aside the whole anime debate, one of the reasons that I think helped Catherine in the west, was the fact that it focused on adults. Vincent and the whole cast were adults. The kind of problems that each character had, their worries, their relationships, those were things that a lot of us could relate to. The game might have been really weird with the whole climbing rocks as sheeps, but the actual characters and their relationships in the real world felt a lot more grounded compared to what we are seeing in P5.

I think that's part of the reason why Catherine resonated better with a western audience, and that's something that P5 lacks. It's way easier to put yourself in the shoes of a guy who is feeling trapped inside his relationship with his girlfriend than to try and understand the feelings of a teenage Japanese student that has a secret identity as a phantom thief.

Also, let's not forget that Catherine was a puzzle platformer and P5 is a turn-based JRPG. These are two very different titles, and imo, JRPGs (with anime looking art styles) in general are a tougher sale in the west than puzzle platformers.

By that logic, Catherine would have sold more in the west than any version of P4.

Ah God, I'm gonna be up until the crack of dawn watching endless clips of Teddie and the Old Lady, aren't I? and there will be 20 separate countdowns, all leading to more countdowns.

I'm afraid (glad) that we can forget Teddie soon, it's the velvet room twins or Morgana now I guess.

Delayed again, right?

I mean if its delayed it will probably be to a Fall release for Japan with US hitting Early 2017, but just like the last bunch of Persona events don't expect anything besides details on the JP version.

This event is more than likely going to give a release date (for the game and whatever Anime will coincide with Persona 5). If it were just another delay and no release date there wouldn't be an elaborate site with a countdown on May 5th (5th month 5th Day-- Persona 5) with a live event held at Tokyo Tower. My guess is a Japanese release announcement for the game to hit stores Early July-- main series Persona games tend to release right around that time frame.

Now we all patiently await for our next Contract from Igor...

All of my finals are over. Now to wait. (Edited to a reasonable size)

I just went to an anime/games convention where Atlus gave a small conference. I could be wrong because this was all translated through my friend, but they said their next big game is coming out in three months. Not sure if this is old news, I haven't been keeping up with developments.

That should be SMT4 Apocalypse.

The event is in Japan.

Yeah, rules out SMT4:F then. Next 3 months and it being Persona 5 is not really that new info as we know it will be releasing during summer, but at least it would not be September in that case.

I'm still standing with my July bet.

Yeah I'm not sure because my friend and I came in at the very end. He did seem to drop some kind of hint though, saying that fans of the game should be playing past games in the series before the sequel comes out.

The event is in Japan.

Ahh, if it's Japan then that obviously rules out SMT4. So August? That retailer said there'd be a game that launch some time between ToB and FFXV.

We might get the release date for Japan and a new trailer, I really think that's all we're gonna have.

Hope we'll get the game in the west after what happened with NIS.

It will make its way west, one way or another.

Its Europe that always seems to get screwed over.

I definitely think we're only getting a date for Japan during this event. That is, unless it will be a siueultatnious Japan/US launch, which isn't impossible but also not super duper likely.

I could easily see Atlus US doing a press release/email/trailer dump later that day that gives the US date. If Persona 5 is still launching this summer in Japan, which is my bet still, Atlus US probably has a date already set and ready for the US version. Just waiting for Japan to drop their info.

Yeah, that's why I'm not really confident, import from US is not a problem, but it saddens me that in Europe we almost only have digital version of their games.

It will be great if it goes like this, we might have answers tomorrow.

I don't see a reason Atlus US would hold back once Japan gets to debut it with their info. Only possible reasons are either they don't have a date or are holding it for some event. I highly doubt the former is true and as for the later, I don't see P5 getting a unique event of its own for the US and I also don't see any reason to hold that until E3.

The only problem I have with a July date is that EOV comes out in Japan in Aug. I don't think Atlus will release 2 games so close to each other.

I doubt Atlus dares to release Persona 5 either on september or october. Either the game comes in july-august (to hit the summer target), or it's delayed to november-december. That's just speculation though, but I bet they want to evade the same release-spot as FF15.
