Atlus is going a lá FFXV uncover? With countdown, live stream and all? I didn't know that Persona is that influential in the west. I thought that the only fans of P5 were the ones in this thread... but yeah, what are the sales numbers of FF vs Persona?
Atlus has been doing Uncovered-esque events since 2013.

This is, like, the third time Atlus has done this...
And Final Fantasy has sold 111 million+ copies WW in its history. Persona has sold 6 million+.

not really comparable. FF destroys Persona in sales. Persona 5 will probably the first one that sells really well, and by that I mean 1.5-2.5 million.

Well, FFXV fans are so confident the game is going to sell gangbusters. I don't know why so many are so bothered by the comparison at that point.

I will never understand why Persona fans get so damn set on it not doing well.
It'll do better than P4G and every other Atlus game in the US to this point, that's all that matters.
Just buy and enjoy the damn game.
Yeah...its not all Persona fans however...just those people utterly convinced that they belong to a special niche of hardcore because the games have never had full mainstream exposure, either by the platform they were on(handhelds, old consoles out of their era circa P4 , the lack of word of mouth or all of these.
But P5 is on the most popular console of the time period, coming out in a period where people are craving both JRPG's and critically acclaimed titles, this will have to be a huge bomb quality wise to be anything more than the biggest success in Atlus history IMO.
The let's players will be all over this, the 'official' critics will be all over it and most importantly, it'll be easily accessible
Just like Persona 5 fans are confident that this game is going to deliver quality. We don't know how things are going to turn out. It's just pointless to keep arguing which one will be better and trying to downplay the other one, it's counterproductive. We need people to buy and support both games, seeing how the AAA JRPG market is right now. I'd understand an one-time comparison or a debate on which game will do better with certain targets, but it feels like some people just come in P5/XV trying to emulate, I don't know, the console wars.

Than a regular from the XV threads gets needlessly (and quite hilariously, I might add) defensive and reminds us all that FF is still this HUUUUUUGE juggernaut with tons of mainstream mindshare that Persona will never have.
Eh. P4 was good to the point of generally being considered a modern classic and 5 is being made by the same people. The general expectation is it'll also be good, if not great.
FFXIII is generally considered to be mediocre at best, they doubled down with sequels that were slightly better if at all and now the next single player mainline FF is trying all this new stuff while being directed by a guy that's very smart, but has generally been in charge of preeeeetty bad games himself, at least in my opinion.
I get your post, but at that same time, it's like, expectations - how do they work? History tends to repeat itself, for better or worse. People draw conclusions based not only on what's in front of them, but what came before.
Disclaimer: My personal opinion is both games will be good, both will sell really well, and I'm buying both day one.

I was a FF guy, and P4G turned me a Persona guy.
I'm interested in FFXV but FFXV doesn't top my interest for P5.
As long as in a few hours we all know the release date for Japan and we have a new trailer I'm ok wwith it.
I don't know why but I think Atlus may be aiming for a WW release with this one (not EU of course).
Since all the delays is being quite a long time since they told us that the game was finished and they were optimizing it... so they could have worked all that time also localizing it...

If the game is delayed in JP will be delayed in US... and if the game isn't being delayed and releases in summer 2016 there's a chance we can see it later this year in US.

I'm not sure where that is coming from. We don't know who will publish it in Europe yet.
Now if you're worried about atlus games on 3ds coming to europe that is a legit concern.
Persona 5 is their biggest title.

A firm release date would be awesome, even if it the Japanese release only. Persona 4 and 3 are my two favourite games of all time , so I'll be willing to wait a little longer, if it means that it'll live up to this games
