Almost willing to bet that Ice Climbers will be in Smash NX. Let's speculate

Same. Much like how Third Strike was the pinnacle of Street Fighter, Melee was the pinnacle of Smash. I'd love to see Melee get the same love that Capcom gave to Third Strike, but I sadly doubt it'll ever happen.

But much like how Street Fighter V came close to Third Strike in greatness, Smash 4 came close to Melee.

The stage unlocks in Melee were pretty painful. I still don't have Final Destination due to the absurd requirements.

Then again, so are the Custom Moves in Smash 4. At least you can amiibo grind the fuck out of them >_<

Smash 4 does have a lot of SP grinding though. Classic 50+ times, All-Star 50+ times, moves, stages, characters. Ugh.

But not everyone has that many Smash-friendly Amiibos. I only have 6 or so (with my little bro refusing to open one of them).

Unlocking Final Destination wasn't bad in Melee but I really enjoy the event matches. I think Melee really have great Single players. Target Test <3.

If we actually get new characters in Smash NX then it's going to be even more grind fest which I don't mind.

Unless the new characters still lack custom moves, which wouldn't surprise me.

Please Please PLEEEEAAASE give customs to the DLC gang!
Given how custom moves have more-or-less been disregarded, I wouldn't be surprised if customs were left to rot. That being said, I'd love for said customs to be reevaluated to where they can be available from the start for everyone & selectable like Assists in the Marvel vs. Capcom games.

Smash Run was frustrating to me because it was a few features away from being something really special. For one, being able to tweak the parameters a bit. Session length, items that spawn, enemies that spawn, and likelyhood of certain final challenges and such. For a series that has been known for a shitload of customization, Smash Run really is not customizable out of the four (and only four) characters that partake in it. Heck you can't even adjust the difficulty of the CPUs if you have them.

Never really bothered with Smash Tour at all. But then, I usually don't like random modes, I like ones where I can set the parameters.

If they released Melee HD it would be based on the most up to date version: The PAL version.

Sakurai giveth and then Sakurai taketh away
Which would kill the potential for Melee HD to be used at tournaments. The best course of action would be to let us choose.

The stage unlocks in Melee were pretty painful.

The bizarre leap in time required to unlock everyone up to Pichu then to Mewtwo/Game and Watch was absurd.

You can unlock everyone up to Pichu in about two hours. And then you now have to play for 20 more hours, or at minimum, 5 hours of cheese, to get Mewtwo. And then once you get Mewtwo, it's another couple hours to grind through Classic with everyone.

I was replaying Melee on a new save a few months ago and just ended up giving up on getting M2 and GW because of how stupid the requirements were.

Then I just got it on Dolphin and GameSharked it. Oh well.

People always say this, buts it's baseless. Whichever region has the most sales is the only thing that makes sense because that's the version that MOST people are used to.

The Melee scene is also getting pretty mainstream so I imagine a Melee HD would have an option select or it would straight up be NTSC. I don't think they can ignore a community that has stories written about it on the front page of major outlets on a regular basis.

Right after Smash Summit 2 the finals match was on ESPN.GO, the main home page, not the eSports section.

Too many big names are getting in on Melee to just ignore the legacy these players are creating.

Realistically I think a straight port of NTSC is most likely to happen.

That's on the slim chance that Melee gets a full-on remake rather than just a Virtual Console release.

I think the scene would be in tears of joy, just for a VC release, LOL.

I also think sales wise it would surpass all expectations. Not saying it would be crazy successful, just far more successful than people are giving it credit for.

But the concern may be that Melee HD would take away some of the spotlight from the Smash 4 port.

I think it would do as much as Pokemon RBGY. A Smash Bros game, even to casuals would sell well.

I highly doubt it's going to happen partly for this reason though. The other is Sakurai.

Agreed, If Nintendo could see this as obvious as the rest of us I think they would make sure it happens.

I also don't think they care too much to take away the spot light from Smash 4. I think they can release Melee HD and focus promotion on Zelda for Wii U/NX without any issue.

If we get Melee HD, version select is my number 1 requested feature. Online is a close second, but since it probably wouldn't work super well anyway, version select is my hope.

Anything else is an unnessecary bonus imo, as long as it doesn't alter the game too much.

I still have some sembelance of hope for Melee HD at E3 ;-; we know they need something for fall, and ports are the easy choice.

Considering that most of Nintendo's competitive Smash support is behind Smash 4, not to mention that Smash 4 is their biggest means of pushing Amiibos, I think they do care if Melee HD overshadows the Smash 4 port (especially if the Smash 4 port has extra characters).

If we got melee HD the game would never go away. We need Brawl HD with fixes such as no tripping and faster speed.
Be honest, you only want Brawl HD (Fixed Edition) for Snake. Konami may potentially hold it back.

As for Melee, I can only see it being NX-bound if...
  • It's a Virtual Console game, or...
  • Melee HD is bundled with every copy of Smash 4 NX.

*you caught me*
Yeah if they did melee HD they'd probably force it as a bundle only with the newest smash or VC as you said. I can't see them putting in more than making the game playable on a new set of hardware. So they probably wouldn't even bother with online.
Then again I don't think it would cannibalize newer smash too much if they did put a bit more effort in.

If they added online, it'd be an easy $60 price for them to charge.

Maybe not for the casuals (nostalgia aside), but it would for the competitive scene.

Just hack into Nintendo's file servers and you'll see the Melee files are the PAL 1.2 version since they didn't bother keeping backups of the old ones.

Yeah I was speaking just sales. The competitive scene is the biggest issue with melee. Unless they somehow make a melee mode in future smash games or follow that gameplay style again melee will never go away. It's amazing how big that scene is for a 15 year old game. I know old games at EVO isn't a new thing, but it's still crazy to see older games have that much participants and viewership.

I do wonder if Nintendo is purposefully ignoring melee so that it kind of dies out at some point.

I think that was their plan, but it's a bad plan. Melee will never die. So much content is released about it on a regular basis and people like me won't stop until we see it at the Olympics. So basically we will never stop playing it/watching it/preaching it.

Assuming the NX port gets additional content, these are the six characters I'd most like to see added.

I hope they add more Pokeball and Assist Trophy summons, as well as raising the number of active summons at one time. A toggle to remove the ones you don't like would be nice too.

Melee had so many more useful Pokemon, and you could have loads active at once.

They really ought to add assist trophies for Final Fantasy, Street Fighter and Bayonetta.

Looking at the third party assist trophies that have been in Smash (Shadow, Gray Fox, Elec Man, Pac-Man Ghosts), Sakurai seems to like choosing rivals/antagonist figures, so in that sense I could see Akuma as the Street Fighter assist trophy and either Sephiroth or a reoccuring FF enemy like a cactuar being the Final Fantasy assist trophy. I don't know much about Bayonetta so I don't know what to put there.

Crouching Guile would be an awesome assist trophy!!

Jeanne or Rodin would be perfect in the Bayonetta spot.

FF, Sephiroth seems like a weird choice for an assist character, but there aren't a whole lot of options... I guess Barret, Aerith, Tifa, Red XIII, and Vincent could all fit in the role? For a rival, I guess there's Reno, but yeah, slim pickings there. I guess they could think outside the box and have one of the summons not already on Midgar be an assist trophy, like Hades or Knights of the Round? If I had to choose, I would probably go with Vincent, because his monster transformations could lead to some interesting potential, he's a prominent/popular character, and his role is something of a contrast to Cloud's, so he fits a similar bill to Shadow or Gray Fox.

Street Fighter: Dan Hibiki would be hilarious, but Ken seems like the logical choice if they want a rival. Chun Li would work too due to her prominence. Maybe even SFIII Alex.

Chun-Li would be a better choice. Hell, Nintendo & Bandai Namco already has Laura Bailey on their payroll.

Like I said, Sakurai seems to prefer using anti-heroes/anatagonists/rivals as assist trophies for the third party series. Tails and Roll made perfect sense for ATs for Sonic and Mega Man, but instead we got Shadow and Elec Man, respectively.

It's funny how the philosophy seems to be Sidekicks/Co-protagonists first for playable characters, Rivals first for Assists.

Make Sceptile that Pokemon and you'll have me sold. He seemed to have the most traction in the ballot. But hold on, Pokemon Sun and Moon. Maybe something from that? I'd rather Sceptile though, because I like Sceptile.

I wonder if we are going to get two more third party characters so Sakurai can make a video of 8 players FFA with all 8 third party characters at once. I wish tho.

Excellent choices. I would be totally fine with those 6 characters make their appearances in Smash Bros.

Snake would be on my idealized list, but I was trying to be somewhat realistic. Konami sucks.

What made the situation hilarious is they actually licensed out Solid Snake to be in Car Commercial. I wonder what if Nintendo or/and Sakurai decided to not include Snake.

I bet that we might get a grass starter from Pokemon Sun & Moon if we get any new contents. Since Sakurai said that it's always about timing for characters when he cited it for Fire Emblem characters.

It won't happen, but I'd also love to see them re-adding some music tracks that were lost from Melee/Brawl to Smash Wii U/3DS. What good excuse is there for robbing Metroid from almost all its Prime tunes or the Wario series from Mona Pizza or Mike's Song?

But in the case of Bayonetta, her main foes may bring about spoilers.......oh, Jeanne (who was besties with Bayo before & after the first game). Street Fighter could use either Bison, Akuma, Juri, Urien, or Gill. And Final Fantasy, Sephiroth would best fit your description. But as far as Street Fighter goes, I'd prefer someone like Chun-Li or Alex to be the Assist Trophy for the franchise.
