That's awful. Knowing World War 1 is kind of crucial to understanding World War 2. We covered it a lot in school.

He's right. It was only briefly mentioned. I think all the movies, TV shows, games played a big role in that. For a long time we were focused on remembering WWII and WWI was almost never mentioned.

I read All Quiet on the Western Front when I got back from Afghanistan in 2010 and I've never had a medium perfectly capture my feelings like that. I've been interested ever since and there really isn't much out there.

Actually here is a picture of the Mondragón rifle on WW1:

Oh I completely agree, my point was that your average person shouldn't be blamed for ignorance regarding WW1.

Not what I was saying at all.

They should be blamed for saying this game will be crap because all they know is a snippet of trench warfare they've seen in a movie. Google is two clicks away.

here in Belgium it was covered extensivly. The majority of the war took place in our flanders fields so I guess it's logical.

One war I never heard of in school was Vietnam.

That makes sense; Vietnam mainly had a huge act on the American psyche; doubt it has as much of an impact in Europe, since y'all had already had your fair share of unromantic, destructive wars.

Is it me or there is more hype for BF reveal than it was for CoD reveal few days ago? :D

Probably because the leak happened several days before the actual reveal, not a few hours.

Dice is known for terrible rendering of iron sights, I really hope they figure it out this time.

It's half and half for me. Some have decent sights that doesn't obscure much of my view but others are horrendous! Looking at you Scar-H (it's still my baby though).

Even if that's the case in your area you have access to the best information database in human history and you aren't currently using it..
While having a massive database of information dont do much when you dont know where to start or what to look for, which is what basic school history knowledge should make you ready for.

I never cared much for WW1 as it was never a topic but found and still find WW2 very interesting and the alternate histories made around it.
History of War is very interesting to me but all i really heard since school is just "trenches and gas" which sounds reeaaally boring.

Vietnam is covered but more as a history of wars overall, not its own "subject"

So Battlefield One will focus on WW1 and gets Xbox Marketing.

Can't wait for the next Battlefield called Battlefield Neo set in the very distant future and has space battles & Space Marines!!!

Now that you say that... i never really thought about it much because i always said "fuck, i cant see shit" and put on a optics... but you're completely correct!

I can speak from experience having fired many of the firearms in the BF-BF4 series that they dont obstruct your vision like DICE's do. They would be best implemented with some good, blurry DOF mechanics for realism. THAT would be cool!

can't wait for the cheeky "Experience Battlefield ONE this fall, with DLC coming first the Xbox ONE ;)"

Or something along those lines at E3

World War 1 is a non subject in schools.

Barely even remember it being a topic.

World War 2 on the other hand...

That's a shame. But the information is out there. There were only two World Wars. I don't think knowing the very basics at least of what happened and why it happened is asking for too much.

The same thing can be said for the majority of German schools.

I don't believe this. At all.

They can always have the option of low powered optics as an attachment or put in reflector sights (imagine red dot but not a laser just a mirror). But most of the reflector sight usage was prototype cutting edge stuff.

I don't think they will do that given the game will sell the most on the PS4, so they probably just have the marketing partnership like Sony had with Battlefront last fall.

Posting it in this thread too.

This is what's gonna happen, only it's gonna flip to "battlefield" instead of "M" and "1" instead of "3"

Oh yeah, I can totally see this...

The B flips (and becomes another B) and the 1 is displayed after the F! BF1 totally can be animated into WW1! It's like exactly the same!

I think the issue is that its made out to be guys sitting in a trench on each side of a field for a few years and thats it.

I might just look more into it but honestly its never been made out to be interesting and in school there was literally nothing about it. Probably barely mentioned during WW2 talk which is a shame as this thread alone have me interested in WW1.

Yes you are correct for example the M1908 Mondragón rifle is a Mexican weapon made by the General Mondragón and It was the first semiautomatic and automatic rifle in the world, it was used in both WW1 and WW2 that's why I hope we can use it on Battlefield 1

My concern is while it's easy to pull up one example of a semi/full auto rifle used in the war, it will be very hard to match the number and variety of weapons in past Battlefield games without embracing anachronisms.

Just got off work. Did I miss anything?

Leaked marketing material. Release in October. Harlem Hellfighters. All Authentic thus far. No evidence of "alternate"

I think the "back to basics" comment plays into this. If they include every weapon from every country there will be variety, but I don't think you'll get BF4 level variety.

Woah awesome, I was so hoping the rumors were true.

I love settings that are almost unexplored in most media.

If the lack of tech in that period is a presentation/gameplay problem, I hope they make up for it by making the game dark and gritty. As in, really go all in in the disgusting trench warfare, gas attacks etc, largely senseless killing / fighting back and forth. I kinda want this to be a version of that The Darkness level minus Hell. Hopefully it also covers many different fronts all over the world as this is probably a one-time thing.

edit: don't care about the MP :P
