Oh, I thought that was just talking about how the DLC would be, not necessarily the whole game.
The gear the guy is wearing is all WW1 era.

Uh
No

It's a more competent game than some give it credit for, but it's way smaller scale and set in an environment that doesn't really work for BF gameplay. Regular city cops with military-grade weapons fighting wars in city streets? Nah.
just give me my horse machine gun

Yeah, I'm really curious what the tone of the game will be, especially with such miserable subject matterSo what's the likelihood that Dice treats this conflict with the respect and nuance it deserves and not just make a set piece mindless shooter?
Like this has to be first big budget big franchise game set in WWI in years? Ever?

Alternative historyThat looks like it carries it, not shooting from it.

Would love a more survival oriented game set in the trenches. You have to survive the war rather than fight it. Scavenge for supplies, hide amongst dead bodies, loot villages, avoid booby traps etc.

For people who don't know much about WW1 and are interested in it, this is a good documentary to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52cTbhwU8NI
Don't forget Europe. Battlefield sells very well over here.
WW1 is a hot topic and well known here in Belgium but also in France and especially the United Kingdom.

This guy is a beast in Hardline :O
The Harlem Hellfighters were an African-American infantry unit in WWI who spent more time in combat than any other American unit. Despite their courage, sacrifice and dedication to their country, they returned home to face racism and segregation from their fellow countrymen.

@dannyodwyer: So...we're gonna be doing a info-dump video about the Battlefield announcement this afternoon. And believe me, you'll want to watch it...

If they play a prominent role in the campaign, that could be a very progressive move by DICE. We'll seeHMMMMMMMM!!
Judging by the quality of their past campaigns, it doesn't look good.
But a big part of me wants to give them the benefit of the doubt. WWI was a big focus area for me during my undergraduate degree and I'd love to see it done well.
That said, I'm not too worried about the multiplayer getting the tone right. It's the campaign that I'm worried about them going all Michael Bay with.
Only thing that gives me pause is that if they wanted to make an old school action-heavy set piece shooter, it would be so much easier and simple to do WW2Zero. You know they're going to go for the same tone as in BF3 and BF4.
HMMMMMMMM!!

If anyone is looking for a WW1 game with a good narrative I highly recommend Valiant Hearts. Its an interesting puzzle game that also provides history on the conflict.
