Uncharted 4 spoiler free early copy impressions

So I probably already know the answer (FINISH THE SERIES WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!) but someone who hasn't finished the series but enjoys jumping in when games are brand new (epsecially MP) would it be okay to read or watch video about some of Uncharted 3 and jump into this on Tuesday? How much will I miss story wise from jumping into 4, too much to not keep up or not tied together a ton?

If you played 1&2, I think you can skip 3 because nothing really happened in that game. Or you can just watch one of those Uncharted: The Movie videos on youtube.

I feel like you should really just play 3 now. It's an awesome game and the more context for 4 the better. One could argue the theme's of 3 (no matter how poorly or well done) lead right into the premise of Uncharted 4.

Some quick early impressions (spoiler-free, of course):

- The first few chapters don't feel nearly as slow to me as reviews had led me to believe. I get what those reviews are saying and I can see why some people might have an issue with the pacing, but there's significantly more action and agency in the first few chapters than I was thinking there would be based on the reviews. I'm only at chapter 5, but I have no problems with the early-game pacing so far!

- The graphics are literally unbelievable. How did Naughty Dog do this? Literally, how? This is some genuine next-level shit right here.

- Same thing with the motion capture. These are real people, not video game characters. They have to be. Jesus, Naughty Dog.

No actual spoilers, but early character-related musings so tagging just in case:

- I'm cool with Sam so far. He surprisingly doesn't feel shoehorned in despite technically being a retcon and I'm interested to see where his character goes... but he's no Elena or Sully.

- Elena and Nate are so friggin' adorable, my god. I love this couple and am scared to see how things will end up for them. :(

Okay, that opening. Naughty Dog are masters of their craft. Dammit, I have to work tonight, or else I'd probably finish this sucker in one sitting.

Yeah, earlier today. He said it should ship anytime today and is guaranteed to arrive Tuesday. So basically nothing I didn't know from looking at my order page.

I've personally never had any issues with launch releases. I've had amazon ship it as late as monday, but it went overnight and arrived tuesday. Obviously YMMV.

Neil is being reductive and cheeky here with his statement, but it's not as if he's not aware that he's doing story stuff that has garnered valid criticisms in terms of pacing, more grounded execution, etc.

It's not the first time I've heard that from Neil Druckmann, Christophe Balestra, or Naughty Dog in general, but it's music to my ears every time. I really appreciate their approach.

Taking a break, but just finished chapter
9
.

May I have your opinion on the game so far ? :D

Is that pick tool still in the game that Nate was shown using during a rock climbing section in the early gameplay demo?

How are the jungle areas? Are they huge and dense with foliage? MGSV disappointed me tremendously in that department, as the only real "jungle" area was the one they showed at TGS near the mansion.

I've only ever had one game from Amazon miss and that was due to weather. This is the first that is expected to ship the week before, though. Everything
For me usually ships the day before. So I'm hoping it actually ships today so I have a shot at getting it early.

Ahhh, I see. Probably no hope to get it early, huh? If it doesn't ship today, I won't worry. My MGSV CE didn't ship until a day before release.

Yeah, I'm not too worried about it by showing up on time. I was just hoping it would ship early.

Anyone else's Amazon order hasn't shipped yet?

Mine still says arriving Tuesday, but it hasn't gone out yet. I'm getting worried.

My Amazon pre-orders almost never ship until Monday and I always get them by Tuesday evening. Ratchet & Clank and Dark Souls III being the most recent examples.

On a somewhat unrelated note the Amazon mobile app is whack sometimes. It's showing zero time delimma was delivered, hahaha.

Got it. I called one place, they said they had it and then soon after the place I originally asked for it called me and told me to come pick it up. Drove straight there.

Gonna eat, take a shower, clean my room and then hop on. Oh lawd it's here!

I'm worried that my PS4 is gonna sound like a leaf blower while playing this.

Early copy people, how are your PS4s sounding?

Is this game good?? I have it. I'm hearing Nate walks around a lot and looks at stuff. If it 's boring like TO 1886 I'll just sell it now and go play UC2.

I hope this isn't controversial. It's called good pacing, and Neil & Bruce are the best in the biz.

I recall some reviews calling this a "grown up" Uncharted; I think they've hit the nail on the head. It just feels like the natural progression for these characters. I'm totally hooked already by the story, and I'm only in Chapter 5. This is something special; the same feeling I felt the first time I played TLoU.

Decided to forgo my GCU discount and just pick up the game today. Was going to leave work after I got it but decided to be responsible :P

Will have all night to delve into the game anyways.

SoCal for those who are wondering.

Called my store, they said they called me a few hours ago, the read back my phone number and it was wrong... Now I'm at work the rest of the night and can't get it and they only have 6 left.

Brb gonna flip some tables.

The Game Collection (UK) this afternoon dispatched an order I placed this morning. But when I checked how much I had in my bank account a few hours after, I had enough for a pre-order of the collector's edition going at GAME. So I tried canning my TGC order and pre-ordered the collector's edition. But by the time I asked for the cancellation, it was already dispatched.

Already canned the CE order for now. But what I will do is play the copy TGC sent me and then next week, pick up a collector's edition. I had a TLOU promo gotten before release for work reasons, but I still went out and bought an Ellie edition of TLOU a few days after release. Whether I'll trade in the standard copy and open the CE or keep the standard and have the CE still wrapped, I've still to decide.

We'll see. Hopefully if I'm lucky, it'll arrive before Tuesday, but at the very least, I hope it arrives on Tuesday.
