My sister is moving in with me for (hopefully) a brief period while she searches for an apartment. She'll probably have unfettered access to the computer, and for the sake of keeping things from getting creepy I need to quarantine all the adult content.....or at least the really disturbing stuff (WhiteMan keeps sending me pictures of penis-breasted dachshund furries). Is there a quick and painless way to do this without having to create new user accounts and set all kinds of permissions and force a login at every bootup?

Hiding folders is a decent fix, but stuff will still turn up if you search for it. I could dump everything into a passworded RAR/ZIP but that'd be kind of annoying.

I'm sure plenty of you are living with parents or spouses and have developed a good solution -- suggestions?

You could also seperate them by file extensions. Then just do a ren *.mpg/*.avi/etc on the folder to bring them back to life.

You can dowload a folder password protecting utility - I think there's one called 'folder access' or something. These will allow you to password protect a folder, and the contents will not show up in any searches. As long as she's not savvy enough to start in safe mode before the app can run, you'd be pretty safe.

...then again, if she's that determined to find some lesbian porn on your computer, we've got other things to discuss, eh?

I don't hide or downoad much porn, but when I was younger I just stashed it somehwere. So yeah, I say the simplest thing is to setup a "Red Light" district on your computer. Stash it in some out of the way girl-repellent folder like this:

C:\Dungeons Dragons\magic\icespell\room12\trolls\level34Mage\customfiles\dlls\BordersHardcoreFetishPorn\

Just remember after you save your freak-nasty stuff to the folder, save a harmless picture to "C:\MyPictures" or something like that. Otherwise when your sister saves a picture of Orlando Bloom, it might end up in the same folder and a thumbnail view of your Donkey porn.

Tweak XP + Simple folder protection is a good method IMO. Locked folders can not be opened and the contents will not turn up in a search.

We aren't married. If it that's much of a concern though simply create multiple XP accounts and make sure that hers is not a admin account, password protect your account as well. Problem solved for the casual snoop.

There are many creative ways you can hide personal files that are only intended for your eyes. When I was younger, I would rename every porn movie I had to something inconspicuous (I was into DDR at the time, so I would do something like 'DDR_Freestyle_001.avi) and then change the default icon of an actual image (since I'm on a mac).

You can also encrypt various folders from ever having people look at your files directly, or simply stash them away into a small crevice at the edge of your hard drive.

1.) Collect the porn and put it in one folder.

2.) Hide the folder some where in the C:\Programs directory

3.) Right click on the folder with all the porn, select Properties aand then finally select select hide!

4.) Finally, Goto Windows Explorer, select Tools > Folder options > View and make sure for the "Hidden files and folders" options "Don't show hidden files and folder" is selected.

I also have to question some of the acts in porn, again the bs is getting way out of hand.

I am a believer of the bible, so everytime i see porn i just think about Sodom and Gomorrah, and then i might laugh, and then cry. Such beautiful women abusing thier looks , i just wish the bs would go away and it will , but i guess now is not the time to discuss those issues.

anyway, heres my funny caught with porn story, I tried out that robojoel automated porn finder thing for a bit of a look. in about 10 minutes it found 1000 or so pictures, silly me put them in the "my pictures folder" which I scrolled through, then deleted them all, what I didn't realise was I had picassa open at the time and it auto added everything. then I closed picassa and erased them and forgot about it. My gf opened picassa and all the porn was displayed for about 1 second before picassa removed the thumbnails of the dead files. I actually convinced her she might have been seeing things
